Chapter 191: 190: Star Combat Training Master
Chapter 191: Chapter 190: Star Combat Training Master
“Who the hell is Cang Haiyuan?”
Amidst the roaring cheers that echoed like mountains collapsing and seas surging, Shao Zifeng, in the dark, turned his head and looked at Li Yiming.
Li Yiming and Casar were just as baffled.
Shao Zifeng looked at their expressions.
Right.
A waste of breath to ask.
One of them hailed from a minority at the frontiers, and the other struggled just to make ends meet—they had no interest in keeping up with these matters.
However, Hu Shiwu spoke up in a muted tone, “Cang Haiyuan, he was a member of the champion team from the ‘Yundu Region Qualifier’ the other year. He later joined the national competition, but his results weren’t that great. After graduation, he chose to become a celebrity Combat Training Master.”
“Although he’s considered a D-list celebrity nationwide, he’s quite popular locally in the Yundu Region.”
Oh.
Everyone nodded in sudden realization as the opening ceremony continued.
“Wow, Mr. Cang Haiyuan is as handsome as ever. As your little fan girl, I’m truly excited to see your performance.”
Upon hearing Mumu’s shout-out, Cang Haiyuan nodded slightly and moved to the side. Since he was wearing a mask, no one could see his actual face.
Seeing that Cang Haiyuan didn’t seem inclined to say much, Mumu swiftly changed topics, “Next up is someone also from our Yundu Region…”
“Sui Yuqian!!!”
Mumu’s voice reverberated throughout the entire venue, and the crazed cheering once again ignited the passion of all the spectators.
“Sui Yuqian!!!”
“Sui Yuqian!!!”
Boom, boom, boom.
Spotlights turned on one after another, their straight beams converging in mid-air.
People could only see a shadow flitting through the beams, and then the ground swelled slightly as several vines broke through the soil and intertwined in midair, forming a simple throne.
Then the lights went out, and when they lit up again,
a tall, athletic young woman wearing a tight-fitting tracksuit appeared on the throne.
She wore a simple high ponytail, rested one hand on her cheek, and slightly swayed the other, greeting the cheers from the crowd.
Shao Zifeng, observing the tall throne of vines, curled his lip. It’s nowhere near as good as Lingling’s craftsmanship.
Lingling’s weaving isn’t just delicate; she even decorates it nicely with little flowers.
So tacky!
This time, without waiting for Shao Zifeng to ask, Hu Shiwu took the initiative to introduce, “Sui Yuqian, a member of the previous champion team. She signed with a company before the national competition and seems to be doing better than Cang Haiyuan, looking at the current trend.”
Another member of a regional championship team surprised Shao Zifeng as he eyed the tall figure of Sui Yuqian.
Logically, those who stand out in regional competitions should have a wide range of career prospects. Compared to being celebrity Combat Training Masters, joining the military should offer better terms, shouldn’t it?
He asked in confusion, “Isn’t it said that the members of the regional champion team could join the military and directly receive the rank of second lieutenant? Why would they choose the path of being celebrity Combat Training Masters?”
“It’s easier, earns money fast and doesn’t involve facing danger often,” Hu Shiwu said with a tone of dissatisfaction.
“With the internet being so advanced, many people can gather countless fans just by raising a cute combat beast. Lying down and making money this way is much better than suffering as a soldier.”
“Don’t believe me? Just look at the latest surveys from elementary and middle schools showing that celebrity Combat Training Masters and internet celebrities have become the top career choice among all kids, far surpassing any other.”
Disdain for the profession was evident in Hu Shiwu’s voice, along with a heavy dose of personal emotion.
Yet, Shao Zifeng was somewhat aware of the matter. With life becoming more comfortable and stable and the explosion of information easily accessible, many emerging industries have thrived. More than one scholar has expressed concern for the future of the next generation, believing that venerating this sort of internet fame economy points to a misguided set of values.
While a few people were chatting, all the lights in the arena suddenly illuminated, revealing the entire venue to everyone present.
For Shao Zifeng, who was visiting the venue for the first time, the sight left him somewhat speechless. He had always heard about the enormity of the venue, but actually seeing its entirety still surprised him.
Not counting the audience seats around it, the whole field was about the size of three soccer fields.
The ground, which resembled a steel structure, had many lines painted on it, seemingly to delineate the boundaries of the competition area.
All made of steel…
Could it be to prevent damage during battles?
Under the bright lights, the whole venue appeared as though it were daytime, with Cang Haiyuan and Sui Yuqian slowly walking to their designated spots at opposite ends of the outlined area.
As they took their positions, the audience around them began to quiet down, awaiting the commencement of the exhibition match.
“Both contestants are now in place, and the random terrain generation will now begin.”
No sooner had the voice faded, the images of Mumu and Lang Xin on the giant display above the field vanished, replaced by dozens of pictures, each depicting a different terrain.
With the start command echoing from the loudspeakers,
a blue box rapidly swept across each photograph.
All eyes followed the blue box moving on the display screen.
“Stop!”
Ding!
The crisp bell sound resonated as the blue box came to a halt on an image displaying a lake.
Immediately afterward, Shao Zifeng and his companions felt a slight tremor ripple through the venue; the steel ground in the middle of Cang Haiyuan split open, revealing a vast chasm.
With the sound of mechanical friction, something seemed to rise continually, and a faint shimmer of water flickered in the shadows of the now-exposed hole’s walls.
Shao Zifeng stared at the peak rising slowly from the center of the field, at a loss for words for a moment.
It seemed this era’s technology was even more thrilling than that of the original timeline.
Click.
With the mechanical locks secured, the entire field was fully exposed before the eyes of the spectator.
Looking down from the high vantage point of the spectator seats, they saw a volcanic lake surrounded by mountains on all sides, with a flat island at the lake’s heart. The lake water, agitated by the recent upward jostling, lapped violently against the surrounding mountain walls.
“The random terrain ‘Heavenly Heart Lake’ has been unlocked. We now invite both guests to enter the arena and summon their combat pets.”
Lang Xin’s voice echoed over the arena as Cang Haiyuan and Sui Yuqian made their way to the lift reserved at the base of the mountain.
As they stood firm on the Circular Mountain platform, the spectator seats erupted once more with deafening cheers.
The four huge floating screens above were each divided into several areas, distinctively showing the two Combat Training Masters and Lake Heart Island.
Cang Haiyuan raised his hand to his mask, dipped slightly towards Sui Yuqian in respect, and snapped his fingers with flair, causing a ripple of translucent spatial fluctuations to spread from his fingertips.
At the same time, Sui Yuqian also beckoned forth her own pet after giving a polite bow.
Boom!
Boom!
Two loud bangs!
A black and a green giant beast dropped down, slamming heavily onto Lake Heart Island, causing the lake that had just begun to settle to ripple once again.
The two combat pets faced each other, exuding an intense fighting spirit.
“Ga!”
The black penguin-like combat pet stretched its neck, emitting a deep cry as the camera switched, revealing its full appearance to the audience.
What do you think?
