Chapter 55: Chapter 55 This money was really worth spending
In the early morning, Shao Zifeng woke up amidst a serene fragrance, more precisely, suffocated awake by Qiuqiu laying on his chest.
He reached out and rubbed the bald Qiuqiu, who felt cool and bouncy to the touch, quite pleasant indeed.
“Meow~”
Qiuqiu hummed twice, opened its misty eyes for a glance, pushed away Shao Zifeng’s hand with its little paw, curled into a ball, and burrowed into the bed to continue sleeping.
At that moment, a joyful emotion came over him when a branch reached above Shao Zifeng’s head, hanging a tender fruit emitting an appealing fragrance.
Shao Zifeng paused, then remembered it must be the Inheritance Skill of the Elemental Egg. He picked the fruit and took a bite. Instantly invigorated, the fruit was juicy and delicious, soft and soothing to the heart and spleen.
“Thank you, little one.” After finishing the fruit, Shao Zifeng sat cross-legged on the bed, caressing the Elemental Egg.
As soon as he finished speaking, a vine reached over, skillfully rubbing its leaves.
“Money, money…hee”
Shao Zifeng shook his head helplessly, fondly patted it, and rummaged through his belongings to find two old coins, giving one to it. The Elemental Egg joyfully wrapped the two coins around itself with the vine, its joy acting like a catalyst, made the plants in the room exuberantly rustle without wind, and the air filled with specks of Elemental Energy.
Taking a deep breath of the fresh air, Shao Zifeng stretched comfortably and got ready to get out of bed and wash up.
At that moment, he paused, curiously pinching his arms and legs. After yesterday’s long run followed by a lengthy chopping training, there was no soreness at all on his body. It seemed to be the little one’s doing too.
Opening the moss-covered serpent cabinet was like opening tree hollows, as various pet snakes energetically coiled in the drawers, their scales shimmering with a healthy glow, looking quite vibrant. Shao Zifeng carefully fed and watered each of them.
After finishing the tasks, he surveyed his room, which looked like a scenic rental, and nodded in satisfaction. A dollar’s wage, well worth it!
Today was the third day of outdoor training, and after completing it, he would have two days off, meaning Shao Zifeng had three more days of vacation. He had arranged with Luo Feng yesterday to go to the identification office to pick up the “Elemental Potion Type VIII” he had applied for as a reward. As for the remaining reward quota, whether to take goods or cash, they would decide when they met.
“Clap, clap.”
Shao Zifeng clapped his hands, attracting the attention of all the pets in the room.
Qiuqiu turned over, covered its little head with the blanket, revealing only its foggy little eyes.
The Elemental Egg wave its two vines joyfully, each end of the vine holding a coin, like a little fan supporting her idol.
The healed White-headed Bulbul flew out of its cage, perched on the top of the serpent cabinet, and tilted its head curiously. @@novelbin@@
The little earth dog, as if overtaken by a bout of madness, circled Shao Zifeng with a wagging tongue, hopping and jumping. It ran to where it had urinated last night, abruptly stopping to sniff curiously at the moss, then turned around, lifted a hind leg, and marked the moss with a scent.
The white cat sat quietly at the doorway, its tail idly swaying side to side over the edge of its little nest.
Shao Zifeng gazed at the little ones in the room, feeling an odd sense of fulfillment.
Without the persistent emptiness, his heart felt filled as if something had filled it, a warm sensation that was indescribable.
“I’m heading out today to collect a reward, who wants to come with me?” Shao Zifeng said, smiling warmly at everyone.
“Meow~” Qiuqiu murmured softly, withdrew its little head, then extended a little paw from under the blanket and shook it, as if waving him goodbye. It had unleashed a massive explosive scale yesterday and almost exhausted itself. Now that the home was so comfortable, filled with its scent everywhere, why would it want to leave to play when it could luxuriously sleep surrounded by snuggliness?
The stray dog was still curiously circling around dog urine moss, the white cat gracefully licked its paws and wiped its face, and the White-headed Bulbul curled up with its eyes closed. Only the Elemental Egg kept sending out waves of longing emotions towards Shao Zifeng, warmly responding to his mobilization.
Unfortunately, Shao Zifeng would take anyone but it outside. Don’t be fooled by how lively it is now; that’s because it released a large amount of its originally condensed energy to merge with the ‘Forest Divine Deer’s’ remains and master the Inheritance Skill. Once it completely merges in a few days, it will revert to the same old ironclad simpleton that only knows how to flash light before it hatches.
Seeing that Shao Zifeng didn’t want to take it along, the Elemental Egg instantly became dejected, its crestfallen emotional waves resonating throughout the room. It was lucky that the egg had no eyes; otherwise, they might be flooded by now.
Because of his empathy, Shao Zifeng was easily affected by emotions. He felt somewhat soft-hearted and pity, but if it couldn’t be taken, then it simply couldn’t be. With its constant emission of a large amount of wood elemental energy, if he really took it to the identification center, that group of research nerds might eat it alive.
He took out the last coin and handed it to the Elemental Egg, cradling it in his palm to soothe it. The little one slowly began to feel happier, extended a vine, and wrapped the three coins around itself, flaunting them with a few shakes, amusing Shao Zifeng.
After arranging things for the little ones.
Shao Zifeng dressed neatly, stuffed ‘Zangfeng’ into his travel bag, turned around to wave goodbye to everyone, and left, closing the door.
After closing the door, Shao Zifeng stood in place and sighed a moment later.
He could sense the feeling of loss the Elemental Egg emitted when he closed the door; it had pretended to be happy the whole time for fear of affecting his mood. Although the little guy was a bit greedy, its obedience was heartbreaking.
…
Su City’s Identification Center.
Just like his last visit, several staff members were leisurely boasting in the lobby.
Upon seeing someone enter, the few guys, as if they had been imprisoned for decades without seeing a woman, instantly sat up straight, their eyes greedily fixed upon him.
Shao Zifeng shivered at their gaze and squeezed out a slight smile, “I am here to see Director Luo. Does anyone know where his office is?”
The expressions on their faces collapsed instantly, and they slumped over the desk, lifting their arms to weakly point upstairs, saying without much energy, “Up the stairs, turn right, the last room at the end.”
Shao Zifeng nodded at them with a smile and headed upstairs.
Knock, knock!
“Come in.”
Upon opening the office door, Shao Zifeng instinctively scanned the surroundings, a habit formed from his long-standing feelings of insecurity, typical of someone suffering from ‘persecutory delusions.’
Luo Feng’s office was quite minimalist, without a large bookcase or a bulky mahogany desk, just a plain white desk and two rotating chairs. A flag of the Great Summer’s Star Dragon hung at the window sill, which didn’t quite fit Shao Zifeng’s idea of a typical office setting.
The only thing that caught Shao Zifeng’s eye was a trash can next to the workstation, filled with used tissues… well, probably wet wipes, actually.
Such germophobia was unparalleled.
“Sit!”
Luo Feng sized up Shao Zifeng, pursed his lips to indicate him to sit on the rotating chair across his desk.
He was still dressed as before, a clean and tidy lab coat that looked brand new, hair meticulously combed to a perfect side part, narrow framed gold-rimmed glasses, making him look neat and crisp.
What do you think?
