Chapter 69 - 68: First Time Being a Beast... Father? (2/2)
Chapter 69: Chapter 68: First Time Being a Beast… Father? (2/2)
In the rental house, Shao Zifeng was looking for something on the wall with the plug of an electric kettle in his hand.
The plants in this room had grown even more lush, making it hard to find an outlet.
A small deer followed closely behind Shao Zifeng, nibbling on the hem of his pants, its little mouth quickly wriggling and its watery jade eyes blinking adorably and cluelessly.
Qiuqiu lay on the bed with a blanket over its head, its dark little eyes staring at the elemental spirit in front of it. The two little creatures stared at each other motionlessly.
By then, Qiuqiu was almost crying. It was too scary. Its poor little head just couldn’t understand why the fragrant ball had split and even turned into two strange things.
It was scared to death at first!
After staring for a while, the elemental spirit seemed to find it boring and made a face at Qiuqiu… Well, although its form was blurry, the gesture was definitely a face.
It flew above its own little nest, looking at the five shiny coins intertwined by vines in the nest, feeling very satisfied.
These were the substantial savings it had recently accumulated, each one representing its sweat and hardships!
After admiring them for a while, the elemental spirit couldn’t resist the temptation anymore and cheered as it pounced towards its nest.
“Puff.”
The elemental spirit went straight through the coins, the nest, the computer desk… If it hadn’t stopped urgently, it would have almost gone through the floor as well.
With half its body buried in the floor, the elemental spirit was stunned.
It incredulously looked at its little short hands, not giving up. It flew into the air and pounced towards the nest again.
“Puff!”
Pulling its little head out of the floorboard, the elemental spirit trembled violently, its already unstable form becoming even more ephemeral.
Green lights appeared in its blue eyes, condensing into droplet-like things that fell on the nest.
Then it cried out “Wah.”
I’m not happy anymore either!!
“What’s wrong, what’s wrong, why are you crying, did Qiuqiu bully you?” The newly minted dad, Shao Zifeng, hadn’t yet mixed the formula and hurriedly put down the cup in his hand and ran over.
The elemental spirit pounced on Shao Zifeng’s head, hugging his hair and crying non-stop.
“Qiuqiu, did you bully it?” Shao Zifeng said somewhat headachy, blurting out this thoughtless remark.
Qiuqiu, shocked, raised its little head to look at Shao Zifeng. What did I do?
I was so scared I hid under the blanket. How could I have bullied it?
So wronged.
“Ying… Wuwu…”
Qiuqiu covered its head with the blanket and began crying too.
Great, another one crying.
Shao Zifeng got even more of a headache and promptly started to apologize to Qiuqiu in a gentle, soothing voice.
A moment later, the elemental spirit flew down from Shao Zifeng’s head and hugged his face.
While sobbing, it pointed at its nest and tried to explain something to Shao Zifeng, using his hair to wipe its tears in the process.
Shao Zifeng looked in the direction it was pointing, and lo and behold, this little nest had suddenly become even more lush.
But he couldn’t understand what it meant. Out of desperation, he prepared to activate empathy to communicate proactively with the elemental spirit.
Before Shao Zifeng could use his power, feeling troubled and distraught by the crying, he felt something tugging at his pants leg.
He looked down to see a small deer staring at him with watery big eyes, its gaze filled with a hint of longing.
Indeed, this one is the well-behaved one.
It must also be craving my warm hug.
The cried-out Shao Zifeng, under the hopeful gaze of the small deer, felt his heart healed.
His face bore a trace of a smile from being a father for the first time, well, more precisely, a beast… um, that’s not right either.
With a reassured smile, he squatted down and hugged the small deer in his arms.
Oh.
When he stood up, he felt his head was a bit heavy.
But Shao Zifeng, being in a state of a healed heart, didn’t think much of it and gently stroked the small deer’s head.
“You~”
The small deer’s cheerful chirping was like a breeze on the face, causing a warm flow to surge in Shao Zifeng’s heart.
Then…
The small deer, stepping on his arms and pawing at his shoulders, happily started to nibble on his head.
Shao Zifeng stiffened, incredulously touched his head, and tremblingly turned to look in the mirror.
In the mirror.
He didn’t know when his head had become covered in green grass.
In the middle of the grass, a small red flower bloomed.
He lifted his stiff hand again and touched his head.
It was real…
Himself.
It had turned green!
Zifeng suddenly lost his composure, thinking Qiuqiu had been the best behaved, not expecting it to be after his green…
“Everyone, stop!!!”
…
Zifeng sat cross-legged on the floor, watching seriously as Qiuqiu, the Spirit of Elements, and the little deer faced him.
Qiuqiu balled into a sphere, peeking out with a pair of small eyes from behind its tail, secretly observing.
The Spirit of Elements hovered in midair, glancing at Zifeng and then at its nest, occasionally sobbing quietly; and the floor below it quickly sprouted a clump of flowers and grass, growing denser by the moment.
The little deer… lay beside the flowers and grass, turning its head to pluck a few blades and chewing quickly, its cute big eyes stealthily watching Zifeng’s head, still harboring ill intentions! @@novelbin@@
Zifeng looked at the little guys, feeling both amused and annoyed.
Although he had been driven to frustration by the noise just a moment ago, he calmed down and realized he simply couldn’t bring himself to punish these adorable little creatures and could only pretend to be stern while reasoning with them.
Although he felt it was futile, at least it made him feel better.
“Alright, alright, everyone stop moving, I’ll go make you some formula.”
Zifeng got up from the floor and after searching the room for a while, found a few spare small bowls, leftovers from when he used to water a pet snake.
He prepared two bowls of Woody Source formula, a greenish liquid with a hint of milk scent, and after testing the temperature, pushed the bowls in front of the three of them.
The little deer’s chewing slowed down; it sniffed with its pink nose, its eyes lit up, and it stood up to bury its head in the bowl, drinking with loud gulps.
The Spirit of Elements flew above the small bowl, dipped a short hand into the liquid, and sniffed it at what should be its nose.
Then it lay on the edge of the bowl and took a deep breath, and the originally green milk visibly turned milky white.
After inhaling, it patted its little belly, finally showing a trace of happiness.
Qiuqiu’s bowl contained a tier-three fiery energy potion; after drinking, it belched loudly, exhaled a puff of black smoke from its mouth, then lay on its back on the ground, revealing its white belly.
Zifeng glanced at it.
Hiss… this is tricky.
He still couldn’t distinguish their sexes.
…
After washing the bowls, Zifeng sat cross-legged on the floor again.
Qiuqiu was still lying on its back, apparently asleep.
The little deer lay beside the patch of grass created by the crying Spirit of Elements, continuously chewing, its capacity for eating baffling.
In a rare moment of peace, through empathetic communication, Zifeng finally understood why the Spirit of Elements had been upset.
It turned out it could phase through objects, but it didn’t do so when it lay on him.
Zifeng poked the Spirit of Elements’ belly with a finger; its form wavered, retreating where his finger touched but not phasing through.
It seemed to only work on inanimate materials.
“Hold on, I’ll get you a gift.”
Zifeng thought for a moment, pulled out a Gold Coin pendant from his pocket and shook it by the string; the coin reflected a swipe of gold in the light.
The Spirit of Elements stared at the gold mesmerized, let out a delighted shriek, and then dived towards the coin.
“Pff!”
“Wow!”
Zifeng watched the Spirit of Elements, which was now sobbing loudly after phasing through the coin, and massaged his temples, feeling a headache coming on.
…
He hung the coin pendant around the neck of the little deer and retrieved a small pouch he used for earphones, put five coins in it, and also hung it on the little deer.
The little deer went on chewing calmly throughout, not bothered by not receiving its own gift, not even sparing it a glance.
Only then did the Spirit of Elements stop crying and flew back inside the little deer.
Zifeng breathed a sigh of relief. These little ancestors were indeed a handful and made him wonder how his mom had managed back in the day…
With that thought, Zifeng felt somewhat hazy, remembering a middle-aged woman’s kind smile.
He… probably should go home and check in.
What do you think?
