My Servant System

Chapter 1295 - 1294: Trial Marathon (6)

"This is... Wait!"

Mom Chordeva and Jahi both paused at my call, and the moment they spun around I pointed at a door that we had passed, showing them the runes engraved onto its surface and attempting to contain the excitement that had begun to bubble within me.

"The trial reward is something to do with Vampires! It mentions a purification of the bloodline or something... but otherwise the trial is entirely for those with Vampiric blood! This is..! How did we miss something like this?!"

The older Demoness pursed her lips and stared at the door for a few seconds before looking around us, her eyes narrowing after another second, giving Jahi and I time to look around as well in an attempt to catch whatever it was that we were clearly missing.

"This street seems... new. To us, anyways... I know we haven't cleared all of the city - that would just not be possible in the short amount of time we've been here - but this all... it just isn't registering in my memory at all. None of it is familiar; none of these trials."

"Well, like you said, we haven't seen everything and this is a constantly shifting city that doesn't give a damn about our perspectives. So this is likely one of those streets we haven't seen yet, though I will admit these trials are rather... alluring."

"That's what's making me wonder if the trials are being moved around at someone's behest, or if we have just hit a veritable goldmine. This seems too... coincidental. Too lucky. That trial there is for a spattering of Mana Crystals, this one is for a rare herbs, that is one for some kind of body strengthening..."

The two Demonesses were looking at the other trials even closer now, and I began to notice the pattern as well, seeing how they were exactly molded to our needs and seemingly waiting for us to just rush through them all right now; they led into one another with their difficulty and gave rewards that could easily help us just take them on one after another.

And the fact that there was a door here meant for Vampires specifically, one that could only be accessed by Vampires... it was suspicious, but could I really stare a gift horse in the mouth and question everything about it?

The first thing I needed to do was mark it, and the second was pray that the trial itself would be easy whenever I had the time to go and tackle it on my own; that would be after I had some upgraded armor, which meant we needed to set out for a resource heavy trial sometime soon.

The amount of 'work' we had to do to get into the trials we really wanted to clear was quite astonishing, but at the same time I understood it completely, especially since the greater the rewards the more risks we needed to take with them.

Still, staring at the red door that would somehow enhance the powers I often neglected was rather conflicting, since I wanted to head right inside and ignore the trial we had been going to while also knowing that I was definitely not prepared for it at this time.

There was little vocabulary used to make the objective for that trial clear, so my guess was it had something to do with proving that you were worthy of enhancing your bloodline even more, which would therefor mean utilizing the gifts unique to that bloodline; gifts that I rarely made use of since... well...

Honestly I had no excuses anymore for my lack of utilization of those gifts, and I felt somewhat angry that I had to continue to repeat to myself that I was going to start now, even though the trial we were heading to declared a mono element was needed to enter.

If my gifts would bypass the trial restrictions I had no idea, but I did know that other trials I did now needed to be done with at least half of my contributions being with those gifts so that I could continue my practice.

I was sure Kat was beginning to feel the same way considering how often we caught her fiddling with that pink Lust Mana these last few days, and while it was always worrying and sometimes scary to be on the receiving end of her fiddling I was beginning to see even more of the power that it brought her the better her control got.

"It just feels so wrong to leave this trial behind, but... I suppose we have other matters at hand, right?"

Mom Chordeva and Jahi both nodded, though the slight excitement they showed at the sighting of a door that spoke about the participants having a shared bloodline and the reward being about strengthening it was making me wonder if we were going to be taking a detour...

"This just makes me wonder though, do these trials have the ability to change your bloodline? To either add a whole new one or evolve it in some way? Could someone like Lady Fenyras suddenly find one of her two bloodlines enhanced far more than the others? What about me?"

The older Demoness stared at Jahi for a moment before clicking her tongue as she murmured "Right, you're half knife ear too..." in a wistful tone, though Jahi just raised a brow at her and asked "I thought Mother made it clear you were dropping that term?"

"She did, but she isn't here, now is she? The answer to your question is a big fat 'I don't know', and honestly... the idea of finding it out isn't comforting. All of us here are likely of various mixed bloods, besides maybe Lilith. Of bloods that we aren't really aware of. We all have a dominant blood though, so I would assume that is the one that would be targeted?"

"Imagine if we could add an entirely new bloodline to ourselves here... like using that Dragons blood we found to make ourselves half Dragonkin? Wouldn't that be fascinating?"

Soon enough we were back to running, heading towards our marked trial and preparing to enter it, all while Jahi mused about the potential rewards awaiting us later down the line, rewards that could change our very being if she was even somewhat close to being right... which was fascinating to think about, for sure.
