My Servant System

Chapter 1302 - 1301: Challenging Trial (6)

There was nothing much to find from the presumed egg even after a few minutes of studying it; the rock was seemingly just rock, the amniotic fluid was disgusting and already undergoing decay, and overall there was just nothing to find besides the pieces of the 'shell'.

No tracks, pieces of the monster left behind or anything that might give us an inkling of what we were dealing with; there was just nothing at all, and that was both a problem and a relief, especially considering we still had little information about the rest of the trial space.

There was nothing for us to utilize going forwards, just that there had been something that had impacted the earth hard enough to make this gigantic crater and that that something was a living being, a something that was now walking around within this trial alongside us.

"This is just great... stressful, irritating, unnerving, but most of all... really fucking thrilling~!"

Lady Fenyras was as 'chipper' as ever, the presence of such a challenge getting her all riled up as she looked around with an anticipatory, predatory grin, like she could lure the monster out with just her will to fight.

Thankfully that didn't work, and instead I looked back up from the egg and stared at the older Demon Wolf for a few seconds, contemplating what I should say and suggest before ultimately deciding that whatever I did, it needed to be a blend of both of our styles.

"I refuse to head out and hunt for it right now, but I also don't like the idea of doing nothing or just continuing to mindlessly explore everything. Like you pointed out earlier those tunnels are intriguing, and I have no way of knowing if they are new or if they have already existed before this egg crashed down into the world."

Lady Fenyras was thankfully being a little more considerate and tame with her approach as she nodded and looked around, taking in the various tunnels before glancing up at the sky, taking note of the time and how much brightness we had remaining.

"As I see it we have a few options. The first is a theory; you could create a pillar that reached into the sky, yes? Something you could climb and use to observe everything around us? 'Cause if so that would make the searching much easier; these plains are hilly, yes, but it is a collection of gentle hills."

"I don't think I could do that without either falling or using up all of my mana. That kind of structure that relies on an extremely durable and dense foundation while also being a constant all the way up is just... too demanding on my Core."

That didn't bother her at all, so instead she gestured towards the sky and said "One of the other options is to mark this place and continue following the scents we find. Particularly stronger, monstrous scents that could become a new lead for us. The other is to head into the tunnels and start searching down below, but that is also a risk because both of us are..."

She trailed off at that, and while I wanted to raise a brow and feel a little angry at how she gave me a one over I was more conflicted then anything else; in essence she was saying I was too thick to venture into the tunnels reliably, but also she had definitely taken that time to look at just how curvy I was...

On one hand she was being practical and logical, and on the other she was definitely checking me out, but there wasn't even a way for me to argue against her since she also went ahead and used her hand to gesture at herself too, pointing out that she was far too tall to do the same.

Tunnels weren't exactly what we could explore freely if they were barely larger then us, and that was a reality, but still... it didn't feel good being called 'fat', but it also felt good since her eyes had lingered on my curves, meaning she knew I was-

I was beginning to wonder if Cali had done anything at all or if I was just so hopelessly lost, and in my rumination I almost missed her saying "I think it'd be best to go ahead and try and 'search' the tunnels with our other senses though. It's something we can manage and it wouldn't be a waste of time.", though thankfully I caught it and could agree with her before I had too much time to lose my mind.

"That's definitely an option."

My reply was too quick and I tried to get away from her even quicker, but that just made the Demon Wolf lunge forwards and snatch my wrist as she pulled me back, a grin tugging at her lips as she stared down at me with that single, powerful silver eye.

"Listen here, pup. If you want to make this easier on us both, keep the sarcasm and the smarts, but don't try and run from me. I like treating my women like prey, and right now you are one fine fucking morsel. So for us both, be normal and make this easier, yeah? You ain't the only one who's horny."

Pushing me away right at the end, Lady Fenyras grinned - showing her sharp, long fangs in the process - before stalking over towards one of the tunnel entrances, leaving me on my lonesome and giving me the time to play her words over and over again, which... was a mistake, honestly.

Being normal for me meant dodging people like this so that they did give chase, and it was so engrained into me thanks to how I treated both Anput and Jahi that it was just... natural to me, but now it was a detriment.

Now I needed to be truly normal or I would evoke her predatory instincts too much, and then I would have an actual predator breathing down my neck waiting for the perfect opportunity to take a large bite out of me.

Neither of us really wanted that, but the problem was our genetics demanded that our instincts ignore all logic and wishes of our psyche, so there was a hint of something mixing between us, something that could become really dangerous the longer we were here together... and that was what I was hoping to avoid.

It was what I needed to train myself to avoid, and right now one of the best things I could think to do was take my mana, shape it into a sharp, thin needle and prick my finger, letting the frost spread and chill my body alongside my mind.

To keep myself sane I needed a little pain and a way to cool down, and sadly this was a perfect way to do so... but an unhealthy and slippery slope that I definitely couldn't stay on for long.
