Chapter 320- The Great Akora River (Part 17)
"Sergi!" Deka stepped forward as she unleashed her aura and pulled her sword out. The rage in her eyes flared up to an incomprehensible degree. Seeing him stab one of their comrades to death had struck her so hard that she took a few seconds to react. But, when she did, she completely lost it.
This was the needle that broke the camel's back, no, it didn't just break it… It shattered it. Charging forward, she slashed with her weapon at her friend.
*CLING*
The latter stepped back and deflected her attack with both hands. The two stared at one another, one filled with endless rage and the other with endless insanity. There was not a single shred of humanity left in Sergi's eyes.
"I WILL KILL YOU!" She clenched her teeth. Then, she unleashed a rain of attacks on him, all coming from her heart. She was holding back the urge to cry with all her power. She didn't understand what happened or why her friend did that.
She couldn't understand anything at all, but all she could think of at that moment was to make it stop. It didn't matter what it was, Deka simply wanted it to stop. It was a mental and physical torture.
"DIE!!!"
*CLING*
Swinging her sword, she aimed it at Sergi, only for it to be deflected. That was when the man finally spoke.
"Hahahaha, you have always been a very emotional person, Deka. Even when we were still novice trainees, you were always the one who cried the most for people's deaths. That made you a very weak person. It always made me laugh how you wanted to be a leader one day. Leaders don't cry for losing a member of their team." Sergi said coldly with a wicked smile on his face full of scorn.
His words were akin to blades cutting through Deka's heart as she continued swinging her sword and fighting him with all her might.

"Keep fighting, and keep trying… You will never see yourself become a leader."
"SERGI!!!!" Deka roared at the top of her lungs. Never in her life had Deka felt so betrayed, hurt, and angered. She was experiencing emotions she didn't even think were possible. It all happened in a few minutes, a sudden change that nobody could've even imagined.
It didn't even make sense how Sergi suddenly turned into this state. He was merely drunk and his tantrum was just harmless, or so they thought. It was as if everything snapped out of nowhere and he lost his mind.
*CLING* *CLING* *CLING*
The battle continued for several moments after that as the two exchanged blows. Deka was the one with the upper hand, but she could not deliver a devastating blow to finish the fight. She was able to put Sergi completely in defense and open up many vulnerabilities in his fighting style, but, whenever the moment comes for a stab or a slash that could end it all, she doesn't do it.
Several times across the short battle, she finds opportunities to stab him and kill him, but her heart wavers and she loses the chance quickly.
'Dammit!' She clenched her teeth with a pained look on her face. 'I can't… I can't do it… I can't kill him…'
Even though she was outraged, Deka still saw her friend on the other side. This was Sergi, someone she had known for years. They had applied for the Mercenary Guild together, passed together, trained together, and joined the same team. The two shared happy moments, sad moments, and success and failure.
How could she just end it all here, all of a sudden? Even if she was given time to prepare mentally, she was bound to waver and hesitate.
Sergi saw all of that written over her face and an evil smile slowly formed on his face. Then, out of nowhere, he shifted his balance and suddenly stopped deflecting her attacks, which shocked Deka and made her immediately stop her assault as she tried to take a step back.
That was when he attacked in a burst of movement, knocking the sword out of Deka's hand. Then, with a swift move, he kicked her in the stomach, sending her stumbling back.
"You were never a very smart fighter either. You didn't have the cunning nature required to survive in this job." Sergi said as he stepped forward. "Even against hideous monsters, you always tried to end them as quickly as possible. That's another reason why you are never going to become a mercenary leader. You are far too kind."
Deka tried to stand up while he was speaking, only for Sergi to kick her down again and stomp on her stomach.
"But, I'm different, I don't need to fear anything. I don't need to hesitate or care about anyone. All I need to do is end everything… Just like this."
Then, Sergi stabbed down with his sword, aiming for Deka's heart. There was not a single ounce of hesitation in his eyes. Even the fondness and care he had for her were all gone. Deka saw it all, as clear as day as things slowed down in her vision.
It was a fleeting moment, but it was enough for her to realize one very important thing. It was something that she didn't notice till now and it was perhaps the answer to it all. However, by then, it was far too late. So, the woman closed her eyes.
*BANG*
But, out of nowhere, she heard quick steps pass beside her as a loud bang echoed in her ears. Opening her eyes, all she saw was someone's silhouette as they landed in front of her.
It took Deka a second to understand who it was. But, when she did, a fleeting moment of hope passed through her eyes.
"Arthur…"
"You really let this scum threaten you, Deka? He is nothing." Arthur said coldly. "Well, I think it's time to get this over with. He doesn't deserve being left alive another second."
After saying that, the boy looked up and almost 30 meters away, Sergi slammed into the wooden wall, breaking large chunks of it. The hit was so strong, he couldn't even feel his face for a moment.
"AGH…" Touching his chest, the man's face contorted with pain. But, he still glared at Arthur.
"I have warned you not to do it. I have given you warnings left and right and you don't seem like you want to actually take my advice. Oh well."
*Crack*
Tilting his neck, Arthur slowly pulled his sword out. "Let's see you try being all-powerful and mighty against me."
All the mercenaries, including Deka, looked at Arthur with varying degrees of shock. The boy had appeared out of nowhere and sent Sergi flying into the air like a ragdoll with a simple punch. The level of power in that punch alone was horrifying.@@novelbin@@
Deka tried to speak, to say anything, but feeling the immense pressure emanating from Arthur, she gave up. If there was one person who could do the job, it was him… She was truly not good enough.
