My summon to another world was even weirder than I expected

Chapter 113 End of the Festival (Part 3)

Zack took the child back in the middle of the night. When he arrived at the orphanage and knocked on the door, it opened quickly. Rea appeared before him with a hint of hope in her eyes. Upon seeing him, that glimmer of hope vanished quickly. Evidently, he was not the person she had been waiting for.

Suspicion and curiosity arose as she saw him appear at this hour, in an orphanage full of children, and her. Just when she was about to ask the reason for his late visit, she noticed a figure hiding behind his clothes. Rea quickly identified who it was, causing her to stop in her tracks.

No one said anything, no one moved; the only sound that could be heard was their breathing. For a moment, time seemed to have stopped. And then time began to move again.

Zack was sure he had never heard anyone scream so much in his life. The image he had of Rea as a kind, friendly, and calm girl had vanished. Manny, who was behind him, was half-terrified, unsure of how to react.

This reminded him of his first encounter with Sally. The first thing she did upon seeing him in the orphanage was to scream at Manny, who was beside her, for bringing a stranger into their home.

After hearing the story, she apologized on Manny's behalf, who seemed to be begging to sleep with him that night. Zack pretended not to see him as Rea led the boy inside the orphanage with a terrifying smile.

Heart-wrenching screams were heard from inside as he walked away as if it had nothing to do with him. If someone saw him now, they would notice that with each scream, his steps became a little faster.

...

It wasn’t very difficult to find where his target was staying; all he had to do was look for the inn surrounded by patrolling men. It’s no secret that when the young noble arrived here, he brought an entire army with him. What’s the use of an army if you keep it far from you?

More than ten men were surrounding the inn from all sides, watching the street and preventing anyone from approaching without being noticed. This is one of the largest inns in the town and one of the few that has its own stable where the horses can rest. On one side of the building, multiple carriages indicated that the number of people who had come with the noble was almost double those visible, probably resting inside.

Seeing the defenses, Zack wanted to curse inwardly. Only a day had passed since he arrived, and he had already gained a bad reputation for his conduct.

(At least he’s aware enough of his actions to know that if he didn’t bring enough guards, people would try to beat him up for his behavior) Zack thought bitterly as he saw the number of people. Thanks to this, his task had become ten times more difficult.

He wasn’t afraid of the people at the door. Compared to the castle guards where he was imprisoned, they were cannon fodder. None of them were on guard. In this short time, he had seen more than four spots to sneak in. Evidently, they didn’t expect anyone from the place to oppose them.

The problem was that he didn’t know if there was someone inside he needed to worry about. If there was someone who could give him trouble, it would be much more difficult to get someone out of there while being surrounded.

(First, let’s make sure Sally is inside)

Normally, a detection spell would be enough, but he didn’t know if there was anyone among the noble’s men who could detect magic, so that option was not possible.

(Then the only thing we can do is…)

Zack’s gaze fell on the distracted guards, looking for prey.

“Waaahhh” yawned Pete, one of the guards.

“Will you stop it already? This is the fifth time. If the young master’s assistant sees you, you’ll get us in serious trouble,” his companion replied.

“I can’t help it. I’m tired,” Pete responded indifferently. “I don’t even know why we’re on guard. What are we protecting against? The air?”

“Do you think I’m happy to be here with you?” replied his colleague. “After days on the road, all I wanted was to rest in a bed. And what happened? I have to stay up all night on guard!”

Pete fell silent upon hearing this. Both were exhausted from the journey; they also wanted to have fun, but unlike the young noble, all they could do was follow orders.

“Still, I can’t believe how much energy the young master has. After partying all day, he can still enjoy the night. Do you know how many girls he’s taken to his room? Two? Three?”

“Five.”

“Five? How is that possible?” Pete exclaimed in amazement. He already struggled with one. If he took five to bed, the other four would look at him with disdain for the rest of the time.

“Who knows? It’s said that the master gives the young master potions that increase stats often; maybe he’s become so powerful that he can handle all the girls,” his colleague said enviously.

“Is that rumor true? That if you increase your attributes, you can become a monster in bed?”

“I don’t know, but it’s said that the king has so much stamina that he can spend the night with a hundred tier 2 women.”

“That’s impossible,” Pete replied incredulously. “Where are you going to find a hundred tier 2 women in the first place?” In his mind, he imagined for a moment a huge bed full of attractive women waiting for him with a smile, and he almost melted on the spot.

“You ask me, who do I ask? If you want to know so badly, ask the king.”

“Hahaha. Very funny.”

The conversation didn’t continue after that. Both knew it wasn’t a topic they should discuss. It seemed they had nothing more to say to each other… for five seconds.

“Hey.”

“Will you shut up already?” his companion interrupted, exasperated. Normally, he didn’t mind having someone to talk to while on guard. It was one of the reasons he chose Pete as his companion despite being somewhat young, but tonight was different. He was exhausted from the journey and hadn’t slept well these days. All he wanted was some peace.

It seemed it was too much to ask.

“How strong do you think the young master is?” Pete asked, ignoring his companion’s request.

His companion turned his gaze from the front for the first time, turning towards Pete. “What’s this about?”

“Well. You know. There are always rumors about how powerful the baron is and the resources he provides to the young master: potions, instructors, enchanted weapons, and even his stories with other nobles at the royal academy. Despite everything, I’ve never seen him fight. I guess I’m a bit curious.”

Hearing the response, his colleague turned his gaze back to the front and replied slowly, “You shouldn’t talk about this topic. To be honest, I’m not sure. Investigating the young master’s strength could mean a trip to the dungeons, but hearing the rumors about his feats at the academy, I guess he’s around level 80.”

“Woah. Really? Level 80?” Pete exclaimed. “That much! But the young master is very young, how is it possible?”

He’s 27 years old. Thinking about his pathetic level 54, he got the impression that he had lived his life in vain.

“I’m not sure. I’ve only heard rumors,” said the guard, shrugging. “You said it yourself. The young master has many resources that we will never reach.”

“Don’t think about those things. You’ll only get depressed in vain,” he said. Seeing Pete’s dejected appearance, he regrets a little for telling him. When he found out, he also spent a few days not wanting to do anything. It made it seem like all the work so far was a joke.

He approached Pete and put his hand on his shoulder. “Our shift is ending. Get some rest. I’ll catch up when the relief arrives.”

“Really? But what if someone comes?”

“Who’s going to come to this place? The most exciting thing all night was when a cat was looking for food in the alley,” said his companion, giving him a pat on the back. “Go on, go. We need to rest.”

After thinking about it for a while, Pete nodded and smiled at him. “Thanks, Mike. I owe you one.”

Seeing him head towards the inn next door where the young noble was, the remaining guard couldn’t help but sigh in relief. He wasn’t sure he could take his chatter for another second.

What neither of them noticed was that, from the shadows, a figure was watching them with a strange expression.
