Chapter 1238: Kai's Trouble Partner (Part 2)
After the pairings were decided, everyone went off on their motorcycles to the hotels that were spread out. The communicators were tested and they were all working well so there was no excuse if anyone ran into trouble or needed more help to be called.
Before leaving, Kim looked at Kai, almost a telling look to not mess anything up.
'That damned woman, does she think I'm Gary or something? I don't mess things up like him.' Kai thought, as he continued to travel with Trixie.
Trixie had changed the pairings a little, so it was only her and Kai that would be going together. When they got close to the hotel they had parked around back, and with it started to walk over to the front desk.
"I doubt anyone will come to talk to us., the staff get changed regularly so they find it hard to keep tracked of who is part of the hotel and who isn't." Trixie commented. "But just in case we can just say we're a couple trying to get a room for the night."
"A couple." Kai replied back and looked at Trixie, she was a fit woman, who looked great, but there was a clear age gap between them.
"I know what your thinking which is why it's the perfect answer as well." Trixie said. "When people get put into awkward situations, they don't want to ask further questions."
Entering the hotel reception was easy, and as Trixie said none of the staff members really came up to them. They decided to check out some of the open public areas first, the reception, breakfast and dinner areas, before they would move down the hallways.
"Do you have an actual plan to even figure out, who is part of the Lupus gang rather than just walking through these hallways and choosing who is a thug or not?" Kai asked.
"You seem to have little trust in me as a five star hunter." Trixie replied back. "And have you not been around higher ranked stars before, the way your speaking to me, it's almost as if you have no respect at all.
"Speaking off, I've seen the way you and Kim are acting, it feels like the two of you haven't known each other for long?"
These were probing questions that Kai didn't particularly like very much. It made him wonder if this was the real reason she had asked him to come with her.
"Have you worked with her much?" Kai repeated. "If you did, then you would know how much of a pain she is to deal with. Maybe when you just have her in small doses it's okay, but being under her as an apprentice isn't so easy."
"Right…right, which is why I wanted to cool you two. If things go well, who knows, maybe the two of us can work along more together." Trixie commented.
They had reached the third floor of the hotel. They had talked to a few people that they met down the hallway some staff members, but all of it seemed like general chit chat. Kai truly could notice nothing that would allow them to know who was in the Lupus gang and who wasn't.
When they reached the third floor, they had headed to the gym. There was no one in the gym area, and one needed a key card to access the actual gym area. When Kai thought they were about to turn around, she had pulled out a key card and swiped it., the two of them entered.
It was a fancy hotel, the size of the gym was large, and the best thing about it was the view, the view from the gym was glass allowing one to see the botanic garden in front of them.
"You know, there are only so many places in this hotel where someone can get a full view of the hotel. There will only be so many people that are awake as well at this time of day, and so many rooms booked out when it's not tourist season or no event is going on at the hotel itself." Trixie claimed. "It limits the amount of places that we have left to check out."
The two were ready to leave when Kai had picked up a small beep. It was someone else using the key card to enter into the gym. Walking in was a regular man in sports clothes, he fit the part.
However, there was something else that Kai had instantly noticed as well, as he started to sniff the air slightly.
"That smell." Kai's eyes lit up, as the man in front had grabbed onto one of the dumb bells, and effortlessly hurled it across the room.
Kai then pulled Trixie out of the way, and the dumb bell went right across the room crashing into the wall.
Right after, Kai wasted no time, as he rushed forward. The man had lifted another dumbell to try and attack but Kai had hit it away, and smashed his face right up against the mirrored wall.
The man fell to the floor, and Kai stepped back knowing full well that Trixie would be there, she then quickly threw several devices, that pinned the man to the floor. They were small iron clamps like that of a nail that stabbed through from one end to the other, and started to electrify the ground.
"Also, if you go snooping around enough, eventually they tend to come to you." Trixie commented. "And by the way, that was a nice catch, I guess Kim was right, in telling me to bring you along."
"Wait what?" Kai asked. "Kim..asked you to team up with me, why would she want that?"
