Chapter 301 301: What A True Cultivator Should Be Like

After confirming the girls were no longer upset with him, Feng Fan made his way back to the inner city again. This time, he also asked one of the guards for directions to Grand Inspector Lu's residence. Everyone in Seven Heavens City knew of Lu Bao, so finding his home was very easy.

To Feng Fan's surprise, Lu Bao's house wasn't grand at all. In fact, Xiao Yun's place was far more extravagant. The inspector lived in a modest two-story building that stood out among the luxurious mansions surrounding it.

Feng Fan knocked on the door. "Senior Lu, it's me, Feng Fan."

The door opened just a few seconds later, and Lu Bao greeted him with a warm smile.

"Young Friend Feng, good to see you. Come in."

Feng Fan didn't hesitate and stepped inside. The interior matched the exterior—simple. The first floor consisted of a single room with a couch, a table, and four chairs. A few modest paintings hung on the walls, but there was little else.

Feng Fan couldn't help but admire the old man. This is what a true cultivator should be like. Unmoved by wealth, untainted by status, and focused solely on the path of cultivation.

Of course, Feng Fan himself was none of those things.

Lu Bao sat at the table, and Feng Fan followed, taking the seat directly across from him.

"Young Friend Feng, it seems Qin Cai truly was corrupt," Lu Bao began, his expression solemn. "I was impressed by how many people we managed to root out thanks to those projection orbs."

He then retrieved a space ring and handed it to Feng Fan. "These are all of Qin Cai's possessions. As for his fate, he's been sentenced to execution in a week."

Feng Fan nodded and casually slipped the ring into his own without checking the contents. No matter how deep Qin Cai's corruption ran, Feng Fan doubted the man had accumulated more wealth than he had.

"Thank you, Senior Lu. I don't particularly care whether Qin Cai lives or dies, but it's good to see Seven Heavens City cleaning house."

"All thanks to you, Young Friend Feng," Lu Bao said with a warm smile, before smoothly shifting the topic. "By the way, I've been meaning to ask… your skills with arrays are extraordinary. I'm especially curious about those formations you used. How did you manage to create moving arrays?"

Feng Fan gave a faint smile. He already knew this was the real reason Lu Bao wanted to meet.

"It's nothing too complex," he said modestly. "They only appear to move. It's a matter of perspective, really. I use my own body as the array's core. From my point of view, the array stays stationary. From everyone else's, it looks like it's moving, because they use the ground as reference."

Lu Bao was baffled by Feng Fan's response, but he quickly made sense out of it, and excitement took over his face.

"This… is really an innovative way of thinking. I can already imagine the numerous possibilities that can be done! But using oneself as an array core is something I've never seen. Young Friend Feng, how did you manage it?"

Feng Fan replied to Lu Bao patiently. For the next seven days, they discussed the Array Dao without stopping. Feng Fan discovered that Lu Bao was a tier 8 Array Master like him and had a much deeper experience.

After all, the man was a true Transcending Tribulation realm expert, and had been living for more than a hundred thousand years. Feng Fan learned much from him, and could feel his abilities in the Array Dao deepening.

After these seven days, Feng Fan felt that he should talk about his real motivation for encountering Lu Bao. Not because he felt the conversation with Lu Bao was a waste of time, but because other people were waiting for him. He didn't dare to make Su Xiaoli, Xue Qiang, and Huang Xue angry at him again. Next time, giving a few gifts and saying a few sweet words may not work.

"Senior Lu, there is something I wanted to ask. This is actually the real reason I came to Yellow Leaf."

Lu Bao sighed. Feng Fan had already told him on the first day they met about his reasons to come to his planet.

"Young Friend Feng, you must want to know how to proceed with the battle against one of the Intergalitic Councils, and which to choose… truth to be told, If I had to give an advice, it would be to… forfeit the match and accept giving the 95% of your planet's resources."

Feng Fan's brows furrowed at Lu Bao's words. Accept defeat? Hand over ninety-five percent of their cultivation resources? He would rather die fighting than accept such a thing.

If he gave up his resources, he could forget about breaking through anytime soon. The amount of spiritual qi he needed for each advancement was astronomical. At this rate, his lifespan would end long before he ever touched the next realm.

Better to fall in battle than live a slow death in stagnation.

Sensing Feng Fan's discontent, Lu Bao sighed and continued, his tone calm but heavy.

"I know it sounds unreasonable… but each of the civilizations that make up the Intergalactic Council is a giant in its own right. A single, isolated planet has no hope of winning against them. In all my years, I've never seen a new civilization claim victory in these so-called 'challenges.'"

He paused for a moment before adding, "These battles are less about fairness and more about spectacle. Displays of dominance meant to force compliance without destroying the planet's value. They don't want a fair fight. They want submission."

Feng Fan was momentarily stunned. From what he had learned, new civilizations joined the Intergalactic Council regularly, at least one per month. If that were true, just how many had they fought since Lu Bao was born?

Then, a memory surfaced: the Shen Empire. For centuries, they had tried to conquer Red Pole, but in the end, the Shen Empire had been forced to retreat.

"Senior Lu," Feng Fan said slowly, "I don't mean to sound disrespectful, but… the Shen Empire invaded our planet for hundreds of years. We endured. We fought back. And in the end, we drove them out. Doesn't that prove we do have a chance?"
