Chapter 431: Chapter 424: She’s Afraid of Kicking Someone to Death
“This is the Beijing Headquarters, we all want to stay here. However, out of every round of interns, only a handful are kept. This time,” she counted on her fingers, “there are nearly thirty students from several schools here, all assigned to different departments. Who gets to stay in the end depends a lot on luck.”
“By the way, how did you get a single dormitory room? I really want to switch with you,” Li Jia really loved this dormitory. It was on the second floor, so there was no need to climb stairs, and it even had space to take a shower, unlike theirs which requires using the communal bath in the hospital.
“Luck, I guess,” was all Tang Yuxin could say. No one told her the reason, so she just chalked it up to luck.
“Your luck is really good.”
Li Jia stretched and yawned. “Later, I need to go buy a quilt. Can you help me? I won’t be able to carry it back by myself.”
Li Jia gave Tang Yuxin a nudge. She felt that she and Yuxin had a lot in common, at least more than she did with Wei Jiani. Wei Jiani had people sending her quilts while she had to be self-reliant and buy her own.
“Sure,” Tang Yuxin looked at her watch—it was only about four in the afternoon. Their official internship began the next day, and today was for settling in and adjusting.
If she had to clean her room by herself, she might still be busy even now—there were windows to wipe, after all. But Gu Ning finished the work for her, leaving her without anything to do. She might as well go help Li Jia buy a quilt. Plus, she could familiarize herself with where to buy them for future reference, should she ever need emergency supplies like sanitary pads every woman needed monthly.
She packed her backpack and then followed Li Jia to her fifth-floor dorm room. As expected, the higher floor and the need to climb stairs certainly felt like a workout in themselves. Upon entering, she found four bare wooden beds set up in the roughly twenty-square-meter space. It seemed that these interns, just like them, didn’t bring quilts. Wei Jiani included.@@novelbin@@
“I’m going to buy a quilt, are you coming?” Li Jia asked, standing by her bed. She picked up her bag and slung it over her shoulder—there was no point in sitting around, right? If they didn’t prepare quilts, would they expect to sleep on bare beds at night?
“I’m going,” one girl stood up.
“Me too,” another one echoed. They were already planning to go out and buy bedding. If everyone went together, it would be more fun.
“Jiani, what about you?” Li Jia also asked Wei Jiani. Was it because they were from the same school, stayed in the same dorm, or did it have something to do with them both having ‘Jia’ in their names? Even though no one else was interested in dealing with Wei Jiani, Li Jia had been playing the peacemaker. Otherwise, who knew how badly Wei Jiani would have offended everyone in the dormitory.
“I have someone sending it over. I don’t need to buy anything,” said Wei Jiani, sounding quite smug. She continued lying on the bare bed, toying with her new phone as if she was the only one who owned one.
Tang Yuxin noticed one of the girls rolling her eyes. It seemed that Wei Jiani was unlikely to be popular here. If you can’t back it up, don’t act overly confident. Especially when your so-called confidence is mingled with an arrogant, aloof attitude.
Li Jia led them to a nearby market. There, Tang Yuxin learned that this was where they’d buy all their stuff. The market sold almost everything you could think of—clothes, daily items, and even home appliances. For now, Tang Yuxin hadn’t thought about buying any appliances. Besides, she saw no reason to cook. The hospital had its own cafeteria. If things get busy, they might even not have time to eat, let alone cook. After all, such was their profession.
Who asked them to be doctors? Even as interns, they were just as busy.
They each bought quilts and pillows. Although these weren’t heavy, they were pretty bulky. Luckily there was Tang Yuxin. Tang Yuxin carried three pillows while each of the others carried a bedding set back to the dormitory.
By the time they returned, Wei Jiani was still lying on her bare bed, still fiddling with her phone.
Tang Yuxin put down the pillows and started to help Li Jia tidy up.
In truth, these were much better conditions than they experienced at University—this time around, at least they didn’t have to deal with bunk beds.
After tidying up, Li Jia practically flopped onto her bed, soaked with sweat. She sat up and remarked, “Yuxin, your place is so nice. It’s on the second floor, has a private bathroom, and you can even shower there. Plus, you have it all to yourself.”
“Yeah, I guess I’m just a little lucky,” Tang Yuxin said, repeating her earlier comment. What else could she say? Even she was surprised she was assigned a single dorm room. She initially thought everyone else had the same arrangement, but that wasn’t the case.
“I also want that kind of luck,” Li Jia pouted. “I wish my luck improves in the future and I can stay at the Headquarters. That’s been my dream all my life.”
Tang Yuxin hadn’t even thought about this possibility. If it wasn’t meant to be, she’d go to graduate school, or find another hospital. If worst comes to worst, she could go home and rely on her father and happily remain a spinster. If they wanted her to stay, she would.
She stood up, ready to go back and rest. Living alone did have its advantages, but it could be quite lonely. However, if she had to share a room with someone like Wei Jiani all day, every day, she might just kick her out.
She opened her door to her neat and tidy room. Everything was properly arranged—the once nicely flat and folded quilt was now a pitiful sight, all over the place.
For some reason, Tang Yuxin found the sight of the quilt annoying. She strode over and began folding it. But no matter how hard she tried to fold it neatly, it looked far from satisfactory.
She slammed the quilt down with force, giving up. ‘Let it be,’ she thought, ‘If I ever want a beautifully folded quilt, I’ll have to ask Uncle Gu to teach me.’
What do you think?
