Chapter 433: Chapter 426 No One Delivers Quilts@@novelbin@@
Now they weren’t just classmates, but rivals, enemies. Why should she help these competitors and even make it easier for her enemies?
As for their future at the military hospital, it depended on their individual abilities and luck.
She still played with her phone, oblivious to any fun it could offer. It was nothing but a silly little game after all, or the practically unamusing Minesweeper game, or perhaps Tetris. Yet, she could hold her phone for an entire afternoon without getting tired of it.
However, as it got closer to nine o’clock, Wei Jiani began to fret. She stopped gaming and kept glancing outside, sometimes flipping through her phone, seemingly lost in thought.
Everyone else was already in their beds, clipping their nails, reading, applying skincare products, signs that they were ready for bed. Only Wei Jiani was still lying on a bare wooden bunk with no bedding.
What she did today had irritated everyone in the dormitory, even Li Jia. Seeing this, Li Jia chose to turn a blind eye. If others were treating them this way, it wasn’t wise for her to warm herself to their cold reception, because in the end, she might unwittingly fall into a trap, and she might end up exploded by farts.
After another half-hour, Wei Jiani could no longer sit still or lie down. She walked out to make a phone call at the door, and people inside could clearly hear her agitated and uncomfortably sharp tone.
“What, no delivery? Why won’t you deliver, mom, you promised, didn’t you? My cousin said he would send the bedding. If he won’t take it, where am I supposed to sleep?”
“Am I supposed to sleep directly on the bare bunk? How shameful that would be, a complete humiliation. And I can’t afford such a disgrace. I swore there was someone who would deliver my bedding. If I really have to spend a night on the bare bunk, how could I face others again?”
“Nini, why don’t you share a bed with a classmate for now? Your cousin is busy today, I just found out myself. Didn’t you say there’s a classmate from your same dormitory with you? You guys could share a bed, okay? Tomorrow your cousin will be back and deliver the bedding first thing in the morning. If he doesn’t come, you can go buy some nearby.”
Wei Jiani’s face fell immediately upon hearing this, “Mom, I won’t share a bed with them.”
Li Jia wasn’t even speaking to her anymore, so how could she share a bed with Li Jia? They never had to share a bed when they were in school, let alone now when she had just deeply offended her. Even if she wanted to share, the other party might not agree. And the other two, she barely even spoke a few words to them, how could she share?
“Mom…” Wei Jiani stomped her foot, “So, what should I do now?”
This question stumped Sang Zhilan. Yeah, what to do? She was not in Beijing at the moment. Even if she were, she couldn’t possibly go to the military hospital just to deliver a bedsheet. The military hospital was in a remote area and it took several hours to drive there, let alone walk.
Wei Jiani bit her lip hard. She was certain she couldn’t sleep on the bare bunk, let alone share one with someone else.
Suddenly a flash of light appeared in her eyes and she moved a bit further from her dormitory.
“Mom, Tang Yuxin is also here, she’s also doing her internship in this hospital.”
“She’s here too?” Upon hearing the name Tang Yuxin, Sang Zhilan felt a cold chill down her spine as if she’d been cut open. There was a sense of suffocating pressure.
“Exactly,” Wei Jiani kicked at the corner of the wall, “She lives in a single room, while I have to share a room with four people. Mom, can you find a way to get me a single room too? I don’t want to sleep with them.”
Sang Zhilan’s face turned red. A single room? How could she manage that? It was Tang Zhinian’s doing that his child lived in a single room. Tang Zhinian’s family had access to helicopters and were involved with the military, while she was just an ordinary civilian. There was no way she could get her daughter into the military hospital and arrange for a change of dormitory.
Even her current internship was acquired through endless pleading, her skin was already thickened by all the shame. No matter how big she may consider her face to be, she couldn’t ask other people to do these things for her. Besides, that person didn’t have that kind of capability.
“Mom, what should I do now?” Wei Jiani was still worried about her bare bunk, her stomach aching from the stress. Anyway, she was definitely not going to sleep on a bare bunk.
After washing up, Tang Yuxin had made her bed. It was just past nine, her habit was to sit in bed and read for a while. Although she was staying here for the first time, the place gave her a sense of privacy, so she felt quite comfortable. The bed was a bit hard, not as comfy as home, but these were petty issues. She would get used to them with time.
Just as she pulled up her blanket to lie down, she heard a knock on the door.
The hour was late. She checked her phone, close to eleven. Everyone should be resting by now, who would run around knocking on other people’s door at this hour?
The door was knocked, or more rightly banged, several more times.
Tang Yuxin had to put on her jacket and get ready to answer the door.
If it continues like this, not only will she be disturbed, others might also be.
She opened the door, and upon seeing the person outside, besides furrowing her brows more, she was overwhelmed by an urge to kick this person out.
“What are you doing here?” She blocked the door, but she underestimated the thickness of some people’s faces. Wei Jiani walked in arrogantly, picked up her own phone, dialed a number, and put it on speaker.
“Mom, I’m at her place now.”
And then she glanced at Tang Yuxin out of the corner of her eye, “My mom wants to talk to you.”
She purposely used “my mom”, not “our mom” or anything else. In her heart, her mom was just her mom, and her mom only had one daughter, her. She was the only one, the unique one.
“Yuxin…” Sang Zhilan’s voice came over the phone. Tang Yuxin’s lips tightened, unmistakably it was Sang Zhilan’s voice. She had heard it for two lifetimes, the person might have changed, but the voice was still Sang Zhilan’s, time might have passed, yet it remained as Sang Zhilan’s.
“Yuxin, could you let Jiani stay with you tonight?”
What do you think?
