Chapter 436: Chapter 429: Changing Dormitories
Principal Zhu pulled Tang Yuxin’s arm from behind his back, his sharp and shrewd gaze swept over Tang Yuxin’s face. This youngster was much smarter than he had imagined. Really tricky indeed. Anyone who didn’t know her would think she had been a doctor for a decade, having seen and experienced it all.
He pushed Tang Yuxin forward, while she acted like a naive, confused intern. This was her payback for using others as a human shield.
“The doctor you’re looking for is her.”
Tang Yuxin just stood there, dumbfounded, more like a fresh-faced intern than a doctor, a mix of shyness, apprehension, and curiousness etched on her face. However, she held none of the confidence of a seasoned doctor.
“You trick me,” the male patient smirked coldly, “Passing off an intern as a doctor, do you really think I’m stupid?” @@novelbin@@
“It’s her,” Principal Zhu insisted, devoid of any hint of jest. There could be no jokes made about something like this; either it was true, or it wasn’t. What’s fake wouldn’t become true, and what’s real wouldn’t suddenly turn false.
“You should have heard about the incident; a female student saved Mr. Huang. She is that student.”
Tang Yuxin responded with an innocent smile. She had given all the advice she could. For everything else, she was a doctor, not a fairy. She could not merely wave her hand and have the patient’s illness cured. The man gave Tang Yuxin a complex look as he rested his hand on his arm without speaking for a long time.
That day, following Principal Zhu around, Tang Yuxin had met pretty much every patient in the hospital, gaining some understanding of their conditions. But to remember them all in a day was impossible, considering the hospital housed hundreds, if not thousands, of patients with a variety of conditions.
Only when her shift ended did she learn that the fracture patient had finally given up and decided to undergo surgery. He’d come expecting a miracle-working doctor but had only found a mediocre one.
Hearing others describe her this way, Tang Yuxin just smiled, neither agreeing nor disagreeing. Whether she was mediocre or not, she knew it herself.
On her way home, she stopped by the hospital’s pharmacy to buy some traditional Chinese medicine to make for personal use.
On returning home, she gathered her linens that were drying outside, placing them on one side. She did not put them away but instead started grinding her medicine with rudimentary tools into small pills. The process was time-consuming, and when she had made about a dozen or so, there was a knock at the door. She got up, closed the kitchen door behind her, and opened the front door. As expected, it was Wei Jiani.
“My mom wants you.”
Wei Jiani tossed her phone to Tang Yuxin, as if she was doing her a favor.
Tang Yuxin took the phone and placed it against her ear.
“Hello…” she muttered.
“Yuxin…” Sang Zhilan’s voice paused. Perhaps she wanted to add, “I am your mother” but found herself unable to utter the words, maybe because she was too ashamed.
So that’s all she ended up saying.
“Yes.”
“Oh…” Tang Yuxin scoffed lightly,
“And you are?”
“I am…” Sang Zhilan found herself lost for words.
“I know who you are. You don’t need to explain,” Tang Yuxin cut her off before Sang Zhilan could answer. If Sang Zhilan really said, “I am your mother,” Tang Yuxin would feel nauseous. Sang Zhilan didn’t deserve to be her mother.
She didn’t have a mother, only a stepmother.
“You’re Wei Jiani’s mother,” she addressed Sang Zhilan this way. It’s how everyone saw them anyway, right?
An acidic taste filled Sang Zhilan’s mouth, preventing her from retorting.
“Yuxin, Jiani is younger than you. You should take care of her. She lives in a four-person dorm, and you’re in a single. We’ve spoiled her all her life. I suggest you two trade dorms so she can have your single room,” Sang Zhilan proposed.
“She was spoiled by you guys?” Tang Yuxin found it absurd that Sang Zhilan had the audacity to bring this up.
“Yes,” Sang Zhilan sighed, she only had one child. “Yuxin, you are going to live in one anyway, why not anywhere?”
“That’s true,” Tang Yuxin lifted her head to see Wei Jiani who looked ready to move in at any moment.
“Yuxin, did you agree?”
Sang Zhilan sounded a bit excited, was that an agreement?
“Did I?” Tang Yuxin sat on her bed, leaning back against the covers. “I was well pampered at home, too. My father treats me better than his son. I’m also spoiled. Why should I trade dorms with your daughter?”
On the other end of the line, Sang Zhilan gasped while Wei Jiani’s face turned pale.
“Yuxin, it’s just a dorm room swap.”
Sang Zhilan tried hard to convince.
“Sure, I can exchange rooms with her,” Tang Yuxin leaned back against her quilt, swinging her legs leisurely.
The color instantly returned to Wei Jiani’s face. She knew no matter how smart Tang Yuxin was, she could never outsmart Sang Zhilan. Even Tang Yuxin’s biological mother cannot match up to Sang Zhilan, Wei Jiani’s mother.
Tang Yuxin’s lips curled upwards, an indescribable flavor to her grin. She found this game of playing people rather entertaining, especially when one went from hopeful to disappointed and then to despair.
On the other end of the line, Sang Zhilan let out a sigh of relief. “That’s great. Why not swap today, while you are free?”
“Sure,” Tang Yuxin agreed.
“I’ll call my father right away. If he agrees, I’ll swap immediately.”
Wei Jiani’s smile froze on her face, as did Sang Zhilan’s, presumably.
Let Tang Zhinian know…they can’t — they must never let Tang Zhinian know. Sang Zhilan knows what kind of person he is. If he finds out, there would be hell to pay.
Moreover, the Tang family was now well established and connected with many other entrepreneurs and large corporations. How could they, ordinary people, dare to offend them?
What do you think?
