Chapter 29: The Not So Good Equation
Chapter 29 - The Not So Good Equation
The enemy shinobi trembled, their throats tightening as if an invisible force was crushing them. They wanted to scream for help, but the air itself felt suffocating, as though death had already wrapped its fingers around their necks.
Then, the moment of pure terror arrived.
"You don't have a little red flower," Youyu muttered, his voice calm but laced with something darker. His Observation Haki confirmed it—these three had no Konoha markers. His smirk widened, revealing something cruel.
Scarlet light flickered in his eyes as he lifted his sword, arcs of energy crackling in the air. The space around him warped, pulling together a storm of destructive force. Power surged through his body, and with a single step, the ground beneath him shattered.
"Asura."
The world trembled as a towering purple-black slash roared to life. The ground split, shockwaves tearing through the forest, and the sky itself seemed to darken under the sheer weight of his killing intent.
A slash, tens of meters high, exploded forward like an enraged beast, carving through everything in its path. The three Hidden Cloud shinobi barely had time to react before it reached them.
They finally understood.
The little red flowers on the Konoha shinobi—the ones they had mocked—were not a joke. They were a lifeline.
Their breath caught, and in that instant, their fate was sealed.
The blade met their bodies, and they ceased to exist.
No blood. No screams. No remnants left behind. They were simply gone.
But the devastation did not stop there. The slash carved deep into the forest, uprooting massive trees and sending fragments of earth soaring through the air. A colossal boulder, once standing tall, was sliced into seven pieces before tumbling uselessly into the abyss.
When the energy finally dissipated, all that remained was a massive scar across the land—a ravine stretching for kilometers, like the battlefield itself had been torn open.
Inuzuka collapsed onto the ground, gripping a jagged rock to keep himself steady. His chest heaved as he struggled to process what he had just witnessed. Hyuga Haruki was no better, his Byakugan still active but his face drained of color.
Neither of them could speak.
Their teammate could barely breathe.
And the one responsible?
He stood at the edge of the devastation, completely at ease.
"You bastards... you touched my last bottle of wine."
With that, Youyu tilted his head back, draining the final drops from the empty bottle.
The crimson glow in his eyes dimmed slightly, his rage subsiding—but the relief was short-lived.
The realization struck.
The bottle was empty.
The last bottle.
For the rest of the exam, there would be no more alcohol.
His fingers twitched around the broken glass. His shoulders trembled.
A slow, dangerous equation formed in his mind.
No alcohol = The Hidden Cloud bastards spilled it = The other villages are responsible.
His grip on his sword tightened.
Conclusion?
They all had to die.
A low growl rumbled from his throat. The killing intent in his eyes reignited.
The ground quaked beneath him as his aura surged once more.
"Ding! Master's rage persists. Berserker Drunken Rage will continue!"
The system notification only fueled his fury.
He turned toward the dense forest, where teams from other villages lurked.
"I'm going to cut you all down."
The roar shook the Death Forest, sending birds scattering from the treetops.
From the sidelines, the Konoha team was paralyzed.
Haruki's Byakugan was still active, but all he could see was an overwhelming, monstrous chakra spilling from Youyu's body. His instincts screamed at him to run.
Inuzuka wasn't breathing. His ninja dog whimpered at his side, belly pressed to the dirt as if begging the earth to swallow them whole.
Their third teammate's legs buckled, and he barely caught himself before hitting the ground.
Then, as if sensing their presence, Youyu turned.
His gaze swept over them, eyes narrowing as he scanned their foreheads.
One... two...
Only two had red flowers.
His grip on his sword tightened.
"Where's the third?"
Inuzuka's breath hitched.
The red flower—he had thrown it away.
It was gone.
A slow silence settled over them.
"You... don't have one."
The words were quiet, but the intent behind them was suffocating.
Inuzuka's entire body locked up in fear.
"I HAVE IT! I HAVE IT!" he wailed, scrambling through his gear, clawing at his pouches, the dirt—anything to find a replacement.
His hands were shaking so badly that he barely registered when something was shoved into them.
Haruki had pulled a spare red flower sticker from his vest and pressed it into his palm.
Inuzuka nearly cried in relief.
With trembling fingers, he slammed it onto his forehead.
Slap!
A bright red mark formed on his skin, but he didn't care.
He turned wide, pleading eyes to Youyu.
"See?! I have it! I have the flower!"
Youyu stared, unmoving.
Seconds passed.
Then, in a low murmur, he spoke.
"Next time, don't lose it."
Inuzuka collapsed onto his hands and knees, gasping for air. He had survived.
Haruki sighed, rubbing his forehead before handing him another sticker.
"Here. Just in case."
Inuzuka snatched it immediately.
"Give me another one."
Haruki passed him a second.
Then a third.
Then a fourth.
By the time they were done, Inuzuka's entire face was covered in red flowers.
Youyu lost interest, shifting his gaze back toward the forest.
There were still plenty of enemies left in this exam.
And none of them had little red flowers.
He placed his hand on the hilt of his sword and took a step forward.
It was time to hunt.
