Chapter 457: Escape

"Alright. Jiaozi will be obedient." Jiaozi nodded and then covered her eyes with her tentacles.

Just as Jiaozi finished speaking, a series of explosions suddenly erupted in the distance.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

As the ground trembled beneath them, Yao Ran and Long Yu exchanged glances. A second later, both of them sprinted out of the room as fast as they could.

By the time they came out from the underground restricted area, the entire building was in chaos. 

Taking advantage of the situation, Yao Ran and Long Yu sneaked back into the white room and climbed up into the air ventilation. As they crawled out through the secret entrance, the ground shook again.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

Another series of explosions erupted from the underground. Feeling the heat rising from the secret entrance, Long Yu grabbed Yao Ran by the waist, carried her in his arms, and rushed out of the small store.

The moment he stepped outside, fire burst from the secret entrance.

Boom! Whoosh!

The heat wave from the explosion destroyed the small store, sending debris and dust flying everywhere.

Shielding Yao Ran with his body, Long Yu activated his wind element ability, forming a protective barrier to block the heat and flying debris.

Nestled in Yao Ran's arms, Jiaozi trembled in fear, muttering, "Mommy… I want my mommy…"

As the dust settled, Long Yu looked down at Yao Ran and worriedly asked, "Ran Ran, are you alright?"

Yao Ran nodded. "How about you?"

"I'm fine."

Just when he said that, the scent of blood reached Yao Ran's nose. Instantly, her eyes flickered with concern and she said, "You are injured."

Before Long Yu could respond, she handed Jiaozi to him and checked his back. Seeing blood staining his clothes, her expression darkened.

She quickly pulled out a bottle of lake water from her space and said, "A Yu, drink this."

As Long Yu drank, Yao Ran took out iodine and carefully cleaned his wounds. By the time she finished, the injuries had already begun to heal.

Feeling relieved, she looked at the surroundings and said, "We shouldn't stay here any longer. Let's go."

Taking Long Yu's hand, she led him away from the street. After finding a safe place to rest, she retrieved a fresh set of clothes and handed them to him. "A Yu, you should change your clothes."

Taking Jiaozi from his arms, she passed the clothes to Long Yu, then pressed the communication device in her ear.

After waiting for a moment, Wu Yehao's anxious voice came through. "Eldest Young Lady, are you alright? Where are you now?"

Hearing his questions, Yao Ran calmly answered, "We are fine. We are resting near the small store. Where are you guys?"

"We have regrouped with Yuechuan and the others. I will send you our location." Wu Yehao replied.

"Alright."

Moments after ending the call, she received Wu Yehao's location. Opening the map, she checked the distance between their locations. By the time Long Yu returned in his new clothes, she had already memorized the route.

"Wu Yehao and the others are waiting for us not far from here," she said. "We should hurry."

Knowing they couldn't stay in Luocheng City any longer, Long Yu nodded in agreement. After checking the map, he lifted Yao Ran into his arms while she held Jiaozi.

Once outside, Long Yu activated his wind element ability, and then soared into the night sky. Taking advantage of the darkness, they slipped away unnoticed.

Half an hour later, Long Yu landed in front of an abandoned supermarket. After setting Yao Ran down, they scanned the surroundings.

Upon seeing them landed in the distance, one of the guards hurriedly rushed in to report. "Captain, Eldest Young Lady has arrived."

Hearing this, Wu Yehao immediately issued an order. "Prepare to leave."

"Yes, Captain!" Accepting his order, the men quickly gathered their backpacks and weapons.

When Yao Ran entered the abandoned supermarket, she saw that everyone was ready to go. Looking at Wu Yehao, she said, "Since you all are ready to go, then let's move out. The Ark will likely send people to chase after us."

Wu Yehao nodded. "Understood."

With that, everyone boarded the three armored vehicles. Before long, the convoy sped onto the highway, putting distance between them and Luocheng City.

Two hours later, Yao Ran finally exhaled in relief as they left the city borders.

Sitting on her lap, Jiaozi looked out the window and asked curiously, "Elder Sister, are we going to find my mommy?"

Yao Ran looked down at her and replied, "We will do our best to find her. But first, we need to leave this dangerous place."

Jiaozi nodded obediently. "I will listen to Elder Sister."

Smiling at her, Yao Ran pulled out a bottle of lake water from her space. Uncapping it, she said, "This water can heal your wounds. Do you want to drink it?"

Jiaozi sniffed the water, and her eyes lit up. "It smells so delicious! I want to drink it." She exclaimed in surprise.

Hearing this, Long Yu glanced at Jiaozi and then fell into deep thoughts.

"Good girl," Yao Ran said gently as she ruffled Jiaozi's thin hair. "Come, Elder Sister will feed you."@@novelbin@@

As she helped Jiaozi drink, Wu Yehao observed the little girl through the rearview mirror. While he watched Jiaozi's tentacles move around as she sipped the lake water, the driver also stole glances at her.

When they had first seen Jiaozi, everyone had been stunned—unable to believe that she had retained her humanity despite her mutated appearance. The fact that she was still sane after turning half-octopus was nothing short of a miracle.

After Jiaozi finished the bottle of lake water, Yao Ran whispered, "Go to sleep now."

"Yes, Elder Sister." Jiaozi obediently closed her eyes. Before long, she drifted into sleep.

Once Yao Ran was certain Jiaozi was asleep, she carefully checked her injuries. Seeing that the deep wounds had stopped bleeding and the shallow cuts had begun healing, she smiled.
