909. The Slime Goddess
909. The Slime Goddess
Shortly afterwards, they were dropped off at the City of Clubs to collect their armies. The Stormweaver Continuity had already been sent back to their Kingdom without their representative.
Faces of surprise spread across the soldiers. They didn’t expect their rulers to return so quickly. But that surprise quickly faded as their attention went back to a strange, red-haired cat girl.
“A Demi-Human attempting to speak to a lowly slime?” Mary grinned. “It’d be like watching an ant and a bee try to communicate.”
The red suit the girl wore caused many to automatically assume that she was from the Golden Middle. The Golden Middle did not have the greatest reputation and were utterly inferior to every Atelier.
Even low-rate Adventurers were more reliable than a Golden Middle Soldier.
Healers immediately knew the kind of looks the rulers were giving the girl, and they pouted with an innocence that Mary could hardly resist. Black Wings kept them in check. If it weren’t for them, then she may have pounced on a Healer.
“Mn. I see. Slimes can have a conscience. Good to know.” The cat girl murmured to herself as Slimes gathered around her.
They oddly treated her like a replacement of their Slime Queen, much to the amusement of many. It highlighted their low intelligence, as well as their utter inability to understand the concept of loyalty or belonging.
However, something strange was happening.
“Waa! *Boing* Uwa! *Schloop* Wawa!”
A slime spoke. It was a racoon-shaped slime that had big, round eyes, a giant mouth and a puffy striped tail. Slimes outside of humanoid Slimes were capable of speaking, and yet, a giant, one-meter large Slime was able to make vocal sounds.
“Hungry? How sad. Someone told me to go look for your Queen. They told me you did good things too. Hm. How could they let you sit in the sun?”
“Uwaaaa!” Another Slime bounced onto her hands, shedding slimy tears.
“Mn. Marked as sinners. But *indecipherable* said you’re not bad. Maybe your looks are the weird part. Big and round.”
“I think they’re just fine the way they are!” A Healer – who had both of her arms completely submerged in the mouth of a slime – exclaimed. “It’s soooo coooool~!”
That same, blue slime blushed with absolute bliss.
“A big component is that they’re indistinguishable from bad Slimes. But not all Slimes are bad, I feel. Maybe?”
“Waaaa…?”
“Mn. Cute. How about you take a humanoid form? It can make things very easy for you if you decide to stick around the Nex Megalopolis.”
Somehow, this girl was communicating with the Slimes. A Demi-Human of all things. Not only that, but the Slimes understood what she was saying. They nodded, smiled, and reacted like they were self-aware.
Mary could not believe her eyes. What were supposed to be lowly things were being graced by the Healers as well.
Just who is that cat girl supposed to be!?
Suddenly, the Slimes took a more humanoid form as Ignis suggested. They were more like melting ice cream that happened to be shaped like people, but it was a pleasant start. The slimes preserved whatever old characteristics they had. Their legs were fused, and they walked similarly like that of a snail.
“Nooo! Ignis! Don’t remove what makes them so cute!” There was a revolt of Healers who wanted the Slimes to return to their rightful forms.
As a result, two types of Slimes emerged. The giant round ones, and the humanoid ones. Some Healers preferred the humanoid ones, quoting: “Wait, they’re so much easier to hug now~!”
Ignis. I’ve never heard of the name before. Are they a Slime whisperer? What a useless role.
Mary smirked. She felt superior to this child. Her only talent was to speak to slimes. In her mind, it was possible that the Nexus had only favored her because she was a Demi-Human child. If anything, she was likely to be a rescued slave.
A low-born Demi-Human on top of that.
“I’ve spent too much time here. Goodbye. Your Queen is waiting for me –”
“Waaa!” “Waah!” “Nyoooo!” “Naaaaah!”
A wave of Slimes latched onto Ignis right as she was about to leave. Their combined grip would have phased even Platinum Ranked Adventurers. But to Mary’s shock –
She wasn’t even affected by that?
– This mere child shrugged them off like they were nothing. Mary even had to admit that her Red Guards would struggle to fend off so many Slimes at once. It wasn’t impossible, but no one would be able to shrug them off like she did.
How can such a tiny girl be stronger than my Guards!?
“They want to come along…?” Ignis murmured, not really knowing what to do with them. Suddenly, her ears piqued as if someone was speaking to her.
Her cold attituded instantly melted, revealing a beautiful smile “Uh. Ah. Ok. The Amalgam says it’s ok to bring them along, since the Healers seem to like them.”
“OI! HEY! – What is this nonsense!? Are you to tell me that Slimes are allowed to have the audience of the Amalgam but not us!?”
A Red Guard blurted out, only for a Black Wing to point their weapon at him.
“Are you questioning the Amalgam?”
“N-No… Forgive me…”
She lowered her gun slightly and coldly stared at him in the eye.
“No. I don’t think I will.”
*Bang!*@@novelbin@@
“Ugh! Krgh! AAAAGH!”
One of his arms was blown off.
A follow up bullet miraculously brought his arm back.
Then, it was blown off again.
The Black Wings showed zero mercy to those who went against the Amalgam. Merely questioning her decision was worthy of punishment. Mary had to wonder if the army the Stormweaver Continuim brought were actually sent back or…
Were they slaughtered…?
She had no way to tell. Nor did she wish to ask. She kept her head down for now and marched towards her waiting Cruiser.
But along the way, she passed by Ignis.
Suddenly, Mary’s body froze. Her heart felt like it had been plunged into an arctic sea. A dangerous pressure kept her from breathing. Every fiber of her being flared like she was in the crosshairs of death itself.
Then, she noticed the severe, sidelong gaze the girl was giving her.
“’An ant and a bee’. ‘Lowly slime’. It must be nice being born the way you are.”
“I-I…”
I what?
Those crimson eyes glowed with a dangerous hue. Upon closer inspection, her irises vibrated like she was just barely holding herself back from slitting her throat.
Mary clasped her neck as soon as the child passed by. Trailing behind was an army of hundreds of slimes and Healers who rode on their backs.
“Lady Mary…?” Yanarin swooped in to see if she was hurt.
Mary shoved her aside and stormed forward.
“My lady –!?”
“Silence! All of you! Enter the Cruiser! If one of you so happen to slow us down, then I’ll kill you myself.”
Veins bulged around her neck and arms as she rushed into the Cruiser, chomping down on her thumb.
“Even the small fries… the most insignificant things… are monsters in disguise. ‘Nice being born the way you are.’ You bitch… You… YOUUUUUUUU! RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!”
Mary howled, slashing at the furnishings and the walls. A bloody made a mess of the interior as blood pooled beneath her.
“What can a little bitch like you know about my birth!? Ah… I’m sorry Mother… I didn’t mean to use your blood… Ah… But I had to…”
Mary brought her hands to her face. What was supposed to be sobs were in fact laughter. She suckled on her bleeding thumb.
“Mother. My siblings. Your precious blood was misused today. I hope you can forgive your important sister if she borrows just a bit more blood when I arrive home.”
But it didn’t occur to her just yet that the wound on her thumb had not yet closed.
She wore a face of ecstasy and remorse as she dropped to her knees. She held out her hands as if to recite a prayer, and then, she clasped at the scar of the Amalgam with endless reverence.
“I was not aware that were so many nuisances surrounding the Amalgam. Aha… How utterly disgusting!”
What do you think?
