Nightmare Assault

Chapter 350: Tsk

Chapter 350: Tsk

Apartment Building Two.

Banana Wolf kept his back to the wall and stood in the living room. He held a knife in his hand. His eyes looked around with alertness. The lights in the living room were off. He held a flashlight in his right hand. Even though it was running out of battery, it was still useable with some smacks.

Tsk. Tsk.

When he heard that, he shivered. The sound had returned!

Half an hour ago, Banana Wolf had just arrived at his room. It was Building Two’s Room 404. Different from the rest, he was very satisfied with his room. He just came back to the country from studying overseas. He loved to read horror novels. He knew how alluring 404 was to the ghosts and monsters. He had a feeling that everything was all set up.

After he inspected the place, he shut the doors to the bathroom and bedroom. He planned to stay in the living room until dawn. However, as he planned to lay down on the couch to take a rest, a series of slow knockings came from the door. It was not once but a series of them.

It was very slow but every knock hammered on his heart. He sat up instantly. He observed the corridor when he first arrived. The building was old. Many doors had rental notices. The flyers looked like they had been there for a while already.

He hadn’t seen any neighbours other than Wan Xiaoning, who had Room 409. She was on the same floor. This dull and shy girl nodded at him and entered her room. He didn’t think it was her outside the door.

He sneaked over to the door and looked out through the peephole. Once he moved his eye to the peephole, the knocking suddenly paused. There was nothing outside. Only the rental flyers in the corridor flapped in the wind like dying white butterflies.

No one…

Banana Wolf swallowed nervously and moved away from the door. He was not dumb to open the door to see what was outside. The peephole provided a limited field of vision. He couldn’t see if people were hiding beside the door. Or maybe… his guest was standing right outside the door, but his eyes could not see them.

He tried to force himself to stop focusing on the nonsense and continued to retreat. When he reached the kitchen, he picked out a sharp knife. It might be useless against the ghost, but at least it made him feel better. After he adjusted his breathing, the strange knocking started again. Banana Wolf’s eyes narrowed into a slit.

He didn’t run to the door but turned his neck mechanically around. He looked behind him, and it led to the bedroom. The bedroom door was closed. The knocking came from within!

Someone was standing inside the bedroom, knocking on the door. Wait. It was not knocking… It was something sharp and shrill. It was about to cut through his eardrums.

Tsk. Tsk.

It had the same tempo as before. It was very uncomfortable. It felt like someone had used a rusted dagger to scratch the bedroom door that was just behind him. The image that appeared in his mind paled his face.

The bedroom door was different from the front door. It looked fragile and was not locked. In other words, the thing inside the bedroom could come out at any moment. When he realised that, the scratching sound suddenly disappeared. Then, Banana Wolf saw the doorknob turn.

CRACK

His body reacted quicker than his brain. He charged to the door to grab the doorknob and pulled it towards him. At the same time, he used the key that was left in the keyhole to lock the door. After he did that, the air froze. He didn’t even dare to blink his eyes.

Eventually… the sound inside the bedroom disappeared.

He staggered back and landed butt-first on the couch. With shivering hands, he held the bottle of water that he had taken out of the fridge earlier. He had to make several attempts before he could twist open the bottle. Just as he was about to take a gulp of the water to calm down, the strange scratching sound returned.

Banana Wolf froze. The sound came from under the couch. He slowly leaned forward and glanced down. A green hand reached out of the couch. The sharp nails scratched the floor, leaving behind five long marks.

The next second, the hand grabbed his leg!

“Ah…Ah!”

“...”

After listening to someone’s story, the travellers who had gathered at Building One sank into silence. They sat around an abandoned wooden table. The table was missing a leg, so it was propped up with a few stones. Other than dust, there was nothing on the table but a single hand.

“So…” Fatty stared at the hand and looked at the agitated Banana Wolf.

“This hand suddenly reached out from under the couch to grab my ankle. I was so scared, and I reacted as any normal person would,” Banana Wolf claimed.

“Do you think a normal person would cut a person’s hand off?” Chu Jiu was so scared that her voice changed.

“No, but I was nervous. And I held a knife,” Banana Wolf explained.

“Where is the knife?” Liu Guo was more considerate of the bigger picture.

“Oh. Right here.” Banana Wolf searched around his waist. “Brother Fatty,” He told Fatty, “Do you mind taking a few steps back?”

Fatty obliged.

Then, with everyone looking in shock, Banana Wolf pulled out a large blade around 30 centimetres long from his pants. Afraid that the knife might cut himself, the blade was wrapped in paper and bound with tape. Only the hilt was exposed.

Jiang Cheng studied the knife and glanced at Banana Wolf, “Brother, your pants sure can store many things.”

“It’s alright.” Banana Wolf shrugged.

After the knife was passed around, everyone’s attention returned to the broken arm. It was not from a living person. It was made from cheap rubber material. The nails were long and sharp. The nails were painted with different paintings. There was also nail art like stars and moons.

“These look like… a manicure?” Wei Jingting touched them and curled up his lips. “Honestly, it looks quite good.”

However, when he sensed Banana Wolf’s unfriendly gaze, he obediently pulled his paw back.
