Nightmare Mythos

Chapter 195 Self Reflection

"Hahh…"

Finishing the task in a matter of a couple of minutes in the most efficient way he could find possible, Cesar lay down on the floor filled with nothing but blood. He was breathing relentlessly as if not breathing even for a second would make him faint.

"My goodness. So this is what it means to be working? My goodness, I'm starting to hate it."

Cesar wiped the beads of sweat that slid through his cheeks as he couldn't help but remember the torment he had to endure for a month just to heal his fractured Soul.

That's right.

During the time he asked for the Demonic Wrath to fix himself, Cesar had to stay at the Academy for a month with nothing but inflict self-torture.

The time itself was a bit of a stretch but that's just how everything was supposed to go if he wanted to fix his broken soul.

However, the pain he had to undergo is not someone with a weak tenacity could hold on, but he was just the kind of guy to pull it off less it can make everything more dangerous.

And he has to feel that kind of pain for a month.

It was nothing to be proud of since it was himself that put that kind of condition on his Soul.

The funny thing is, it could've been lowered up to one to two weeks if he had healed fast. But since he kept abusing his condition thinking his problem was not that 'big', the result came back just as how much he prolonged his pressing matter instead of treating it fast.

He never wanted to experience that kind of pain again that's why he limited the amount of essence or action he could waste.

And since he and Cedeit shared the same storage of essence now where the two can freely use the things that the other has, Cesar can feel that the others regard him as a special one.

After all, just a day after his soul was fixed, Cesar immediately headed out to help resolve the problem that involved the Revolutionary Army.

Just as a week ago, he defended three neighboring cities straight without break, plummeting his essence just before it became zero.

It took a couple of days to intake the lost essence he had used before he was sent to his next mission which was to defend this city from another attack of the Revolutionary Army.

'Judging by the way they use horses like a car to ram down people, this is the group that is under the Revolutionary Army, the Rebelled Cavalry,'

Cesar knew caught a big fish this time since the Rebelled Cavalry was a big name under their enemy.@@novelbin@@

Unlike the defense he did from the three cities last week which has the title of One Man Defense from the papers, Cesar yet had to expend almost all his soul as most of the cavalry had Facets.

Weaker Facets, of course, not like the groundbreaking once Cesar had accumulated to see on his entire life but nothing to scoff off either.

Just because Cesar is very proficient in using his Artifacts and knows how they work doesn't mean the attack he did was easy.

There are certain advantages though like only one city being defended but he had to hasten the pace of clearing the city because the cavalry had already breached inside.

And pulling off that feat that the soldiers will not see once in a while is hard.

Tak—!

Soon, Cesar glanced to the side and saw hundreds of men approaching him from his place where he was lying down as he reminisced about the happenings he had to do and suffered for about a month and two weeks.

The Mayor of the Quoel city was also there.

"Hero of Wheels Cesar, I am Ernest the Mayor. Thank you for coming right on time. May I ask though? Are you all right? Why are you lying around the floor? If you need medical attention, we can give it to you fast,"

Cesar cast them a tired glance before replying with an even tone, "It's nothing. I don't need medical attention or something like that. I'm merely… thinking."

The Mayor and the few soldiers beside him looked at each other with confused expressions before Ernest stated.

"Will you need some assistance to bring you into the city? Just say the word, Cesar,"

'Man, can't they just leave me alone? I wanted to think by myself, not with an audience watching me do it…'

Thinking about something to say since Cesar had a gut feeling they would not leave him be if he gave them half-assed orders, he then retorted.

"Okay, Mayor Ernest. This is what you need to do. Count every casualty on our side, and count the enemy as well. It must be exact. The corpses should still be intact since either they were just burnt to crisp or hit from their vital points,"

Cesar paused, "Next, I want you to do a report of it to the Headquarters and tell them next about the next job that Cesar Sparrow will be deployed. Tell them I can do it promptly. Now for the last thing…"

Thinking that he had worked himself too hard for the past two weeks and a bit of reward would suffice, Cesar brought out his third order.

"Please prepare me a good supper when I come back. Anything good will do,"

With everyone considering Cesar a new commander in charge since saving the city was enough to give him that title to the netizens, Ernest left his place and proceeded to do what Cesar asked them to do.

Now he had gone back to his self-thought.

But it seemed his body was not allowing him to do that anymore

"Ugh…"

Realizing that he was not going to have the 'self-reflection' time for himself, Cesar stood up from the bloodied floor and approached the city he just defended.

And there would be a thousand more of them to come.

But for the peace and to keep humanity thriving, Cesar knew it was a small price to pay.

'Yummy…'

When Cesar ordered his final request from earlier, he wasn't expecting something extravagant in front of his table.

But it was definitely showing now.

Cesar took a gulp as he observed the dishes that were presented for every soldier present here, and the cook was no other than Mayor Ernest himself.

The food was sizzling, appetizing enough that it could be eaten on the battlefield that the soldier had faced.

In the last three cities that Cesar defended, he didn't encounter any healthy and delicious food enough to be eaten. Much more if it was all for the soldiers inside the room.

And it was done in just more than three hours.

"You'll be surprised by how it tasted as well. And don't ask how I was able to do it. Before becoming a city mayor, I was the owner of a famous restaurant known as Ernest Diner. That was in the past, however. And I've put all my focus being a mayor since I was elected,"

"Ohhh…"

The soldiers and even Cesar let out a short gasp as they marveled at the fact that Ernest was a good cook.

Once they had taken their first bite of the food, their eyes clearly melted from how savory it was in their mouths.

'This is the best one I've eaten in the past two weeks… Man, if Ernest wasn't a mayor, I would clearly bring him on my deployment and just ask for him to cook for me. I think I will be ready to go for another deployment right now…'

Just as he was about to take another bite, Cesar and the rest of the soldiers heard the communicator beside Ernest ringing.

Then as if the words have been pre-recorded, the voice behind the communicator has spoken.

"Soldiers that have been stationed from Quoel City, I hereby order you to move to your next destination, Freon Portland. Effective immediately. We are expecting a large-scale battle coming from the seas and we need any nearby soldiers that we can get."

The communicator turned static for a moment before the next words were solely directed to Cesar.

"Cesar Sparrow, you are to be deployed at the Fender City and assess the casualty that transpired in that area."

The communicator's next words were harsh and cold which brought bad news to the people inside the table.

"All the people that have been sent by that city were wiped out by one of the Great Five Leaders of the Revolutionary Army. If the enemy was there, we order you to reprimand and bring him his body, dead or alive,"

The communicator paused, "The Great Leader's name is Vanke. He's Shaded of the Second Order and we got informed he used ice and poison as his weapon."

The communicator seemed to forget what it was about to say before adding, "Everything has to be done effective immediately,"
