CHAPTER 196 - The Voice 2.
The silence stretched for what felt like an eternity.
Time, already frozen, seemed to halt even further, as if the very fabric of existence had momentarily forgotten how to move forward. The voice that had been so confident and commanding suddenly fell quiet.
Then, a low chuckle echoed through the void.
"... Did I hear that right?"
The voice seemed not to believe what it had heard. It couldn't understand why Alex would reject the offer.
"You will die if you keep that attitude. If you apologize now, I shall look through your discretion."
Alex, however, shrugged, hands tucked in his pockets, his expression unbothered despite the frozen battlefield around him. "It's still a no." He exhaled, tilting his head slightly. "Besides, soul-binding sounds like a pain. I'm not into contracts I can't break."
The voice grew silent for a while, not sure how to go any further before it laughed again. It was probably forced, but it was louder and richer than the last chuckle, as if genuinely entertained. "Ah… fascinating. You are not easily tempted. That makes you all the more desirable."
Alex rolled his eyes. "If this is your way of flirting, I gotta say, I'm really not interested."
The voice, however, pressed further. "You truly refuse? Even if it means certain death?"
Alex crossed his arms. "Look, if I took every shortcut thrown my way, I wouldn't be who I am today. If I win, I win on my own terms. If I die..." He shrugged, "Then I die on my own terms too. Either way, I don't owe you a damn thing."
Silence again. It was getting repetitive now. The voice just couldn't come up with words.
But soon, a low growl reverberated through the space. One could tell that after thinking a lot, the voice couldn't think of anything and was now irritated.
"Is that the only reason you are rejecting? I can make things hard for you if you want—!"
Before the voice could continue, however, Alex cut it off. "No," he replied, shaking his head. "The main reason I'm denying this offer is because I don't want to become a plaything for an old monster on its last breath."
The voice seemed to be stunned for a while in disbelief.
Alex didn't know what it was thinking, but he was sure it was something like, 'How did he know?', 'How much does he know?', and more such questions.
The voice didn't know that he had Sophie after all. Sophie had already discovered what was happening here—something the voice didn't know.
In the next second, the air grew heavier and colder, charged with something ancient and unfathomable.
Alex could feel the being's intentions—a silent storm brewing in the abyss. It wanted to kill him.
"You must die," the voice growled, as if afraid that Alex might reveal the news to someone, but Alex just chuckled.
"You think you can do that?" He asked, and as soon as he did, a giant throne materialized behind him.
"Just to remind you, but this is..." Sitting on the throne, he tilted his head, smiling as he tapped the ground. "My mind space."
Crack!
As those words fell, cracks started to appear in the space as if it were about to shatter.
"H-How?" The voice wasn't sure what it was seeing anymore. It didn't know why it was happening or what was happening.
The voice couldn't understand how Alex could already control his mind space. He wasn't even a star-connection realm expert yet.
"Well, let's just say you were unlucky not to be the first one to try something like this," Alex replied lazily, recalling the entity at Luminora village.
They had done something similar, so this time, Alex was prepared. He could now somewhat understand what he had to do.
He just had to think about what he wanted.
Then, before the voice could go on further, Alex waved his hand. "Bye now."
With those words, the space shattered, and just like that—
Time resumed.
Pain.
Agonizing, searing pain crashed into Alex like a tidal wave, reality slamming back into him with full force.
His body convulsed as the claw impaled through his chest twisted slightly, sending a fresh surge of blood spilling from the wound.
His breath hitched, his vision blurred, but he refused to let his knees buckle.
This pain wasn't normal; it seemed like Lucian was making full use of his blood powers to make it more agonizing.
"A-Alex!" Lilia's voice shattered in panic, her eyes wide with horror as she watched his blood spill onto the cold ground.
Lucian, still holding onto his twisted, blackened claw, leaned in closer, his smirk widening. "What's wrong, Alex? Didn't expect to feel pain again?"
Alex exhaled sharply, blood bubbling up at the edge of his lips. His body screamed for relief, for reprieve—but his mind? His mind remained sharp. Focused. Calm.
He lifted his gaze to meet Lucian's, his smirk—albeit weaker—still intact.
"You... made a mistake."@@novelbin@@
Lucian's eyes twitched. The madness in them flickered, replaced by something uglier. "Still talking? You're moments away from death! You should be groveling! Begging!"
Alex chuckled, a wet, raspy sound. "You really don't get it, do you?" His palm grabbed Lucian's. "You already lost the moment you decided not to kill me in one go."
Lucian's expression darkened, his grip tightening around the wound. "Shut up!"
A pulse of dark energy surged from Lucian's body, its force cracking the stone beneath their feet. Lilia, now on her knees beside Alex, flinched, barely managing to keep her footing.
But then—
The air shifted.
Lucian felt it first. A sensation crept up his spine, an undeniable presence pressing down on him like the weight of an unseen giant. The smirk on his face faltered, confusion flickering in his eyes. Find exclusive stories on My Virtual Library Empire
"What…?"
Alex exhaled slowly, his fingers twitching. Then he summoned it—the destruction energy.
He didn't want to use it as the drawbacks were severe, but with how close Lucian was, he didn't need to do much.
Alex's palm was already touching his. In this situation, all Alex needed to do was activate the power of destruction within himself and push it into Lucian's body.
And that was what he did. His fingers were set ablaze with purple energy, and Lucian, who felt death from those fingers, tried to pull his arm, but before he could...
Shiver!
A chill ran down his spine. The energy entered his body, rising up his hand, and in panic, he quickly cut his arm off.
"ARGHHH!!" With a horrified look, he kicked it away, but as soon as his leg touched the arm, now covered in strange purple energy, he found his leg getting engulfed in it.
He didn't even get time to understand what was happening as he saw his leg break down. It turned into ash, causing him to stumble, and before he knew it, he could no longer feel his body; only his head remained, staring at Alex with a gaze filled with shock and disbelief.
'I should've listened to father...' That was the last thought that passed through his head before his head met the same fate as the rest of his body.
Lucian was no more. And this time, he wouldn't get a chance for a comeback.
What do you think?
