Chapter 265 CHAPTER 266 - Second and Third Floors Cleared.
The eerie silence that followed the slaughter of the Shadowfang Wolves was only momentary.
Alex knew the boss of this floor was nearby, lurking within the dense, fog-ridden forest, waiting for its prey to enter its domain.
But he wasn't about to let that happen.
'No more testing the waters.'
He tightened his grip on his sword, channeling mana through his veins. The icy mist around him swirled unnaturally as if responding to his power. His eyes scanned the surroundings, his senses sharpening to their peak.
Then he felt it.
A presence.
A deep, guttural growl rumbled through the forest, and the ground trembled slightly.
From the shadows of the twisted trees, a hulking figure emerged.
Unlike the smaller wolves, this beast was massive, nearly the size of a house. Its fur was darker than night, its eyes gleamed with a malevolent intelligence, and jagged spikes ran along its back, pulsing with an ominous red glow.
The Shadowfang Alpha.
Alex exhaled, his breath visible in the cold air. "I don't have time to play with you."
The alpha didn't wait for an invitation.
With a powerful push, it blurred forward, faster than any of its kind. Its claws gleamed as they tore through the air, aiming straight for Alex's throat.
A mistake.
BOOM!
A sudden burst of icy energy exploded outward as Alex swung his arm in a sweeping motion. The ground froze instantly, and jagged ice spears erupted beneath the beast.
The wolf barely had time to react before several shards pierced through its limbs, pinning it in place.
"AWOOO!!!" The beast howled in agony, struggling against the ice. Its red eyes glowed brighter, and dark energy gathered around its body, trying to break free.
Alex rolled his shoulders. "Yeah... no. You don't get a turn."
CRACK!
A surge of electricity arced from his fingertips, traveling through the ice and striking the wolf's immobilized form.
The beast convulsed violently, its body locked in place as the lightning surged through it, frying its internal organs, but it remained alive, its crimson eyes staring at Alex with anger.
"Oh? You have some fight left?" Alex asked, making the wolf growl, but Alex just grinned.
"What about now?" He asked, and the wolf tilted its head in confusion until it saw what Alex was talking about.
Crackle!
There were at least twenty such thunderbolts that struck it a second ago, floating above Alex's head.
"Uwww..." It whimpered as it realized the situation, but it was too late.
Whoosh-Boom!
The thunderbolts shot toward the wolf, reaping its life as the red glow in its eyes flickered, then faded entirely.
With a final, pitiful whimper, the Shadowfang Alpha collapsed, its massive form shattering into mana particles.
[You have earned 2500 from killing the beasts.]
[You have earned 2500 points for clearing the second floor.]
The same notification, just with a higher number, flashed in front of Alex before the countdown appeared.
[You have 10 minutes before you are moved to the next floor.]
Alex, however, dismissed the notification with a flick of his fingers.
The portal leading to the next floor would materialize in a bit, so he sat on the beast's corpse, waiting for it.
When it appeared, without hesitation, he stepped through.
.............
When Alex arrived on the third floor, the scent of salt and brine filled his nostrils.
The landscape was completely different—an isolated island surrounded by an endless, stormy ocean. The sky was overcast, thunderclouds crackling with latent energy.
Alex stepped forward, his boots sinking slightly into the damp, sandy ground. The wind howled around him, carrying the distant roars of unseen sea creatures lurking beneath the waves.
'Great. An ocean floor.'
Almost on cue, the surface of the water rippled violently before monstrous creatures burst forth.
Giant sea serpents, razor-finned sharks, and humanoid fish beasts with jagged spears rushed toward him, their deep-set eyes gleaming with predatory hunger.
Alex sighed. "I swear, dungeons always throw the ugliest things at me."
The first sea creature lunged—a shark-like beast with grotesque limbs, its maw filled with rows of jagged teeth. It closed in with terrifying speed, its spear thrusting forward in an attempt to skewer him.
Alex sidestepped effortlessly.
BZZZT!
A bolt of lightning erupted from his palm, striking the creature point-blank. Its body seized up instantly before exploding into a mist of burnt flesh and saltwater.
The rest of the creatures hesitated but only for a moment. Their instincts screamed at them to retreat, yet their nature as dungeon beasts forced them to charge in regardless.
Alex smirked. "Fine. Let's make this quick."
CRACK-BOOM!
He raised his hand to the sky, and instantly, a storm responded. Streaks of lightning forked through the dark clouds, illuminating the battlefield in an eerie blue glow. The ocean, once a sanctuary for these creatures, became their death trap.
One by one, he struck them down, each thunderbolt arcing through the water, electrocuting anything within range.
Their screams of agony were drowned beneath the crashing waves as their bodies disintegrated into mana.
They were strong. Stronger than the beasts on the second floor, as they were all around the start of the star-connection realm.
Alex, however, was already using his full power without his physique activated, so their chances of surviving were zero.
But suddenly, a monstrous presence emerged from the depths.
A massive sea horse, its azure scales shimmering with an unnatural glow, broke through the surface.
Its serpentine body coiled as it let out an ear-splitting roar, sending waves crashing in all directions.
Alex let out a low whistle. "Well, at least you look cooler than the others."
The seahorse didn't care for his words.
With a flick of its tail, a massive water spear formed above its head before launching straight toward him at blinding speed.
The boss, just like the mobs, was stronger.
It was an eight-star, star-connection realm beast.
It was strong enough to force Alex to use his physique, but he didn't move.
Instead, his fingers crackled with pure energy, and as the spear neared—
BOOM!
He flicked his wrist, releasing a surge of lightning that collided with the water spear, vaporizing it instantly.
The sea dragon barely had time to react before Alex's body blurred forward.
"For a water-type boss... you sure picked a bad match."
As he said those words, he used gravity to push himself up, appearing above the beast's massive head, lightning coiling around his sword.
"Sink."
He plunged the blade down, and an explosion of electricity burst forth.
"KIEE!!!!!" The seahorse's agonized roar echoed across the sea as its body convulsed, unable to resist the sheer force of the elemental weakness exploited against it.
The atmospheric advantage was the reason Alex didn't need to use his physique for this beast.
With water everywhere, the beast couldn't possibly think of defeating him, who had an element that could counter water and infinite mana, from long range.
It was the beast's wrong judgment that had caused it to get stuck in the situation it was.
Within moments, the large seahorse collapsed into the ocean, lifeless, its massive form dissolving into pure energy.
[You have earned 4000 points from killing the beasts.]
[You have earned 3000 points for clearing the third floor.]
[You have 10 minutes before you are moved to the next floor.]
The same notifications and wait before the portal shimmered into existence once again.
Alex exhaled, running a hand through his hair. "Three floors down. Four to go."
With that, he stepped into the portal, his eyes gleaming with anticipation for the next challenge ahead.
However, he knew full well that his eternal devourer physique would be used on the next floor.
What do you think?
