Chapter 187: Chapter 187 Husband and Wife
Ye Yiheng’s handsome eyebrows slightly furrowed, and he unconsciously took a step back.
Leng Yu Yan followed by stepping forward.
She had no idea what Ye Yiheng was thinking, and felt that there was something odd about him at the moment.
When the blind man raved, he was sinister and cold, but now he seemed to be afraid she might do something.
All she wanted was to sew up the torn edge of his robe. Song Guo and Ruofeng had injured their hands, and Mo Chen also had wounds on his arm—removing the Crown Prince’s robe naturally fell to her.
“Your Highness, forgive my forwardness,” she said as she reached for the belt at his waist.
Watching her delicate hand move towards his waist, Ye Yiheng’s ears turned red, his body tensed, his back stiffened severely, and his Adam’s apple bobbed as he asked hoarsely, “What are you doing?”
Leng Yu Yan’s hand paused, suddenly realizing he couldn’t see that his robe was torn, so she explained, “Your Highness, there’s a tear in your robe, and I wanted to mend it for you. It’s a minor matter compared to last night when you protected me.”
He had protected her and she would mend his robe; although not equivalent, she did not want to owe him too much.
Hearing this, Ye Yiheng’s fingers twitched behind his back.
So that was it. What had he been thinking?
A self-deprecating curl of his lips and he spoke coolly, “No matter, let the robe be torn.”
“Your Highness, you must have brought plenty of clothes, but they are limited nonetheless; mending the robe so it can still be worn is better than throwing it away.”
Ye Yiheng asked, “You know how to sew?”
Leng Yu Yan was taken aback, wondering if he really thought she couldn’t sew.
Considering her hands were steady with a scalpel, sewing was naturally not a problem.
“Has Your Highness forgotten? I’m proficient with the silver needle, and it’s much the same with an embroidery needle.”
“That’s true,” he said with a light laugh, then took off his outer robe himself.
Leng Yu Yan took it and moved behind the woodpile where she and Miao Zhu had rested the night before.
Ye Yiheng sighed quietly and slowly walked over to sit on a rock not far from Leng Yu Yan.
With the needle and thread ready, she saw him sit and gently said, “The needle and thread pack I carry has only blue and white thread. May I embroider bamboo leaves on the edge of Your Highness’s robe?”
If she had had thread the same off-white color as his robe, she could have mended it without a trace. Now, she could only use the blue thread to cover it with a few embroidered bamboo leaves.
“As you wish.”
Watching the young lady swiftly sew, he felt a serene sense of tranquility.
In common households, when a husband’s clothes are torn, it’s usually the wife who mends them, right?
With this thought, Ye Yiheng’s normally stern facial features softened significantly.
He had always thrown away torn clothes since childhood.
He had never experienced having them mended.
This was the first time in his life!
And the clothes he wore were all made by the Clothing Bureau; nobody else had ever made him new clothes, let alone offered to mend them.
Suddenly, warmth surged in his heart, and even his cold heart seemed to warm up.
His initial plan to safely deliver her to Li Yuyue, then leave, started to waver.
Such a woman—he truly wanted to keep her by his side at all times!
Unnoticed, four people had lined up quietly behind Ye Yiheng.
The four stood in a line, silently watching Leng Yu Yan embroider bamboo leaves.
Her hands moved so swiftly that in a blink, the vibrant bamboo leaves were beautifully embroidered.
Leng Yu Yan picked up the robe and nodded in satisfaction. As she handed the robe to Ye Yiheng, she finally noticed the four people all staring at her.
“Why are you all looking at me like that?”
Song Guo spoke sorrowfully, “Miss Yu Yan must have suffered since she was young to be so skilled at sewing.”
Many young ladies from wealthy families could sew, but none as exquisitely as her.
He had also heard that some women took on embroidery to help with family expenses. Miss Yu Yan must have practiced to this level under such circumstances.
Leng Yu Yan shook her head with a smile, her exceptional embroidery skills were not honed in this era. As for how she had mastered them, it wouldn’t be easy to explain to them.
In contrast to Song Guo’s heartfelt words, the other two men’s comments were different.
Mo Chen shamelessly said, “Lady Yu Yan, my sleeve is also torn; could you sew it up for me? You don’t need to use that many bamboo leaves, fewer will do.”
Ruofeng quickly pulled at his own clothes, “The tears in my clothes are bigger, just one bamboo leaf for each tear will suffice.”
Ye Yiheng’s expression suddenly turned cold.
Seeing this, Mo Chen and Ruofeng stepped back a few paces to avoid being harmed by the chilling air emanating from His Highness.
Miao Zhu hummed with a laugh, “I can sew too; you two take off your coats, and I’ll do the sewing.”
The two obediently removed their outer robes.
Miao Zhu took them and sat down where Leng Yu Yan had just been sitting, beginning to sew meticulously.
By the time Miao Zhu had finished sewing, their luggage was also nearly packed, and they could start their journey at any time.
Mo Chen and Ruofeng eagerly came to pick up their own robes, thinking that since Lady Yu Yan’s embroidery was exquisite, her maid’s skills must be quite good as well.
When they received their clothes, the expressions on their faces changed wonderfully.
Miao Zhu’s embroidery skills were actually not bad; the problem was that she had embroidered bunches of foxtail grass on their clothes.
Mo Chen’s sleeve was covered in foxtail grass, and all the tears in Ruofeng’s robe were also covered with foxtail grass.
Mo Chen frowned, looking disapprovingly at his own clothes, “Miao Zhu, you did this on purpose!”
Ruofeng looked at Mo Chen’s and then at his own, sighing, “Yours are still better; I’m covered in grass.”
Miao Zhu pressed her lips together, suppressing a smile, “Foxtail grass is quite hard to embroider. Are you not satisfied?”
What else could the two say? At least all the tears were sewn up.
Leng Yu Yan covered her mouth, laughing, “It takes quite some skill to get that fluffy feel right.”
“I think Miao Zhu’s embroidery is perfectly wonderful!” Song Guo laughed loudly, “The texture suits you two so well, so fitting!”
Even Ye Yiheng couldn’t help but chuckle lightly.
Soon, the group set off on their journey.
Passing over a mountain, suddenly something rolled down the path.
Leng Yu Yan quickly pulled on her horse’s reins, its hooves raising high as the “thing” appeared to be alive, rolling right under the horse’s hooves and stumbling to its feet from the ground.
It was then she saw clearly that what had rolled down was a person.
Mo Chen hurriedly shouted, “Hey, are you blind?”
The person gestured with his hands and after a long pause, managed to stutter, “Help, me!”
His voice was young, sounding like a teenager going through puberty.
Leng Yu Yan dismounted and asked the other, “Is someone after you?”
The person glanced terrifiedly toward the bushes, then nodded his head.
They had encountered bandits the previous night, and now, seeing the injured youth, Leng Yu Yan considered for a moment and said, “You may come with us and leave this place.”
The youth was immensely grateful and immediately knelt to kowtow.
Leng Yu Yan quickly took out a piece of dry food from her bundle for him, her sharp gaze simultaneously scanning the bushes they had just passed.
The bushes quivered slightly; it was clear someone was there.
Ye Yiheng suddenly spoke out, “We shouldn’t stay here any longer.”
The group continued on without stopping.
Soon, the bushes shook violently, and the person behind fled into the mountains as if running for his life.
“Boss—”
“Boss, I just saw a ghost!”
Inside the mountain stronghold, a man with fierce-looking eyes and a scar across his face that was quite terrifying sat in a tiger-skin chair.
He barked coldly, “It’s broad daylight; what nonsense are you spouting?”
What do you think?
