Chapter 547: 451: King of Beasts, Like Falling into the Abyss

Chapter 547: Chapter 451: King of Beasts, Like Falling into the Abyss

In the instant the crocodile launched another attack, a blood-colored Horse-slaying Saber cut through the air, drawing a perfect arc. Blood spurted forth, dyeing Cardoze’s muscular upper body as the bisected corpse fell into the muddy swamp with a thud.

Cardoze didn’t even glance at it.

He merely strode through the waist-deep swamp, quickly reaching the wizard’s side.

He planted the Horse-slaying Saber into the ground, stretched out his massive hand, and firmly grabbed his companion’s neck. The bulging veins on his face twitched incessantly, and hot breath sprayed from his nose and mouth.

As Lodanzo’s similarly dark green face gradually turned into a shade of bluish-purple, their faces drew close, Cardoze glared and viciously cursed, “Damn coward, you’ve messed up my plans!”

Pang pang!

...

Lodanzo forcefully slapped Cardoze’s muscular, knotted arms.

After some time, Cardoze eventually calmed down, reluctant to kill his companion.

Plop!

He spread his fingers.

Lodanzo’s emaciated body instantly fell into the swamp.

He first placed his hand on his chest, gasping violently, then slowly rose from the muddy water, unconcerned about the dirt staining his robe. Looking calmly into his leader’s eyes, Lodanzo said, “If doing this somewhat restores your sensibility, I don’t mind. But one thing I must make clear; if we had left even a moment later, death would have been our only greeting.”

“That kind of monster…”

Remembering the scene he witnessed on the battlefield, a look of after-fear crossed Lodanzo’s face, “It’s not an entity we can contend with now.”

“So what, it’s just death.”

Cardoze scoffed disdainfully, “After all, we have been dead for hundreds of years. Now, we are merely puppets manipulated to bow before the enemies who once annihilated us. In the vast realm of Longevity Heaven, creating massacre after massacre for those beasts, until the entire starry sky turns into a cold morgue.”

Ptui!

The Great Commander spat heavily.

Yet, in the next instant, his furious expression transformed into pain and ferocity.

Beneath Cardoze’s dark green skin, it looked like pythons were rising, twitching, and wildly writhing, even climbing up his neck to his face. His mouth gaped in extreme agony so intense, he couldn’t speak. His muscles writhed all over his body, bones creaking, and bunches of thick sweat seeped out from his skin.

“Huh!”

A full quarter hour passed.

The abnormalities on Cardoze’s body finally began to stabilize.

Then, nearly exhausted, a layer of pale salt crystals formed on his dried skin.

He knelt on the ground, holding the Horse-slaying Saber with one hand, breathing heavily. Snake-like streams of blood seeped from his nostrils and eyes, dripping down his chin into the swamp, making a ticking sound.

Lodanzo’s gaze carried a hint of pity, “Do not attempt to defy the King Insect’s will, not even mentally resisting it.”

“Hahaha…”

Cardoze laughed loudly, “Look, the once King of Beasts, now kneeling on the ground like a begging wild dog.”

For centuries, Lodanzo had learned to accept reality and stop resisting.

But he still didn’t want to talk much about this matter.

Not because of sadness for the past glory and freedom, but because such talk was meaningless.

Lodanzo reached into his cloak and drew out a tangled, bloody head.

Although the head was battered and flesh blurred, if Su Heng were here, he could immediately recognize that this head once belonged to the Longevity King.

Lodanzo held the Longevity King’s head with both hands, admiring it like a rare treasure.

“Although I couldn’t retrieve that woman’s head, the Longevity King was a top-tier power in this race. Giving his brain to the King Insect should suffice to complete this mission.”

In the course of a few sentences.

Cardoze seemed to have recovered from his heavy injuries, supporting himself with the Horse-slaying Saber, he stood up from the swamp.

Hearing the wizard’s recent words, his face showed no reaction. He just slightly furrowed his brow, as if noticing something, his muscles tensed as he swept his gaze around.

“What are you looking for?”

“Something is approaching,” Cardoze sniffed slightly, analyzing the air to find some useful information.

But he failed.

Aside from fear, he achieved nothing.

Seeing Cardoze’s serious expression, the wizard also became cautious.

He first put the Longevity King’s head back into his cloak, then raised his oak-made Magic Wand, watching his surroundings with full alertness.

The surrounding trees were rigid, their bare branches growing upward, like evil spirits struggling in the Purgatory Abyss. A dozen birds with crimson eyes flapped their wings as if sensing something, flying toward the gray sky. The distant volcano erupted violently, flames soaring into the sky, and large swathes of ash drifted down like crow feathers.

Shadows streaked through the forest, and rustling footsteps came; it seemed they were surrounded by a horde of ghosts.

A burly warrior roared and threw his Long Spear.

The spear exploded.

Hidden behind the trees, dark silhouettes laughed sharply, darting out from all directions.

Accompanied by a low pressure passing through everyone’s hearts, and a moment of intense heart tremor, a crimson lightning struck down from the sky.

A massive shockwave instantly tore hundreds of warriors around it into pieces. The high temperature caused by intense friction completely evaporated the moisture in the entire swamp, causing it to collapse downwards, forming a patch of pitch black cracked hard soil.

As the dust settled, under everyone’s watchful eyes, a muscular figure with disheveled hair draped over his shoulders, stepped forward slowly from the void, walking on the lightning.

His calm and majestic gaze swept over everyone.

Finally, it settled on Cardoze.

Su Heng revealed a gentle smile on his face, stretched out his hand, and beckoned to Cardoze as if calling a small dog at the roadside after dinner during an evening stroll.

“Is it you who severely injured Ji Huaxi?”

“Indeed,” Cardoze, with a cautious expression, furrowed his brows as he carefully digested Su Heng’s words in surprise. “She’s not dead?”

“Almost,” Su Heng answered, as he slowly removed the robe he was wearing.

Under the light of the blood sun, his strong and muscular body stood like a wall, every muscle of his sharply defined, filled with an exaggerated and violent beauty, reflecting a metallic cold light.

He casually tied the robe around his waist.

A cold breeze blew, the corners of his robe fluttering from his waist, forming folds.

Su Heng shook his head, causing a few crisp sounds, his smile slowly turning cold as he calmly spoke, “You qualify as a decent warrior. As a reward, I’ll give you a chance to strike.

This is not mercy.

Rather, it’s because food marinated in fear tastes much more delicious.”

“Is that so?” Cardoze’s mouth slowly widened into a grin, “Among the humans I’ve seen, you’re the most arrogant.”

The wizard’s gaze constantly sized up Su Heng.

Unlike the reckless Great Commander, even in such a plight, he remained very cautious, devoid of any self-destructive desires.

But the more he observed,

the more doubtful and alarmed the wizard’s heart became.

Recalling the enormous figure he saw on the battlefield, he couldn’t be sure whether there was some connection between the present Su Heng and that figure.

After merging with the Spirit Void Dao Wood, Su Heng’s aura became immeasurable by normal senses.

Using the eyes, standing in front is a giant. But if using spiritual power to perceive, what descended from the sky, appearing before them, was a chilly, ominous, indescribable horrify figure.

Tsk!

As the perception deepened.

A strong surge of horror abruptly welled up in the wizard’s heart.

He hurriedly gave up the plan to probe further, and also realized that their current situation was indeed quite tricky.

However, judging by the speed demonstrated by the opponent, there was no possibility for them and his men to escape; they could only stake it all in one fight, putting forth all their strength, perhaps there was a slight chance of survival.

Thinking of this.

The wizard urgently passed a message to Cardoze, “Don’t talk nonsense with him. Just agree, and then all of us will strike together.”

“No!”

Cardoze directly responded.

He pulled up the Horse-slaying Saber stuck in the ground, grasping the handle with both hands, and then turned around and shot a cold glance at him.

“If we were in our tribal land as per the tradition, how should a tribal leader respond to a challenge?”

Lodanzo suddenly fell silent, unable to utter a word.

Seeing this, Cardoze sneered, turned his head to look at Su Heng standing before him, and roared, “Tooth for a tooth, blood for blood. No matter when, the beasts of Elzean fear no challenges, even now just as a puppet controlled by others.”

A trace of admiration appeared on Su Heng’s face.

Cardoze’s body was robust, and his muscles bulged out, covered with various ferocious scars on his rough, unprotected skin. His body bore few features of the insect horde, and from the simple conversation, it seemed he belonged to an ancient tribe of some Longevity Heaven, who after defeat, were controlled by the insect horde to act obediently.

“Come, let me see what mettle you have as a warrior,” Su Heng nodded and beckoned the beast.

The repeated contempt and humiliation greatly angered him, Cardoze took a deep heavy breath, first lowering his center of gravity, resting the Horse-slaying Saber on his shoulder. Then his calf muscles swelled like a coiled spring gathering strength.

Then with a bang, mud exploded.

His body lunged forward, leaving behind an afterimage, and with a piercing sound, the Horse-slaying Saber aimed for Su Heng’s head.

Bang!

Su Heng casually yawned.

Slightly tilting his head, the Horse-slaying Saber landed on Su Heng’s shoulder, wide like a rock.

Cardoze’s trembling gaze held ecstasy as if he never imagined this daunting figure to be so easy to defeat. But in the next instant, from heaven to abyss, the ecstasy turned into indescribable horror.

With a crisp snap, Su Heng’s shoulder remained unharmed.

But the crack spread on the Horse-slaying Saber that had been with him throughout his military life, shattering.

Until the blade whirled out flying, scraping past Cardoze’s ear, cutting off locks of hair, and then causing a thunderous sound in the forest.
