Chapter 317 285. Light and Shadow (Seeking Monthly Pass)
By the time the sky was already dimly lit, the Home Martial Soul finally returned to the top floor of the Tower of Shine.
As the Martial Soul transformed into a stream of light and disappeared into the chest of the witch lying on the bed, Dorothy opened her eyes.@@novelbin@@
"Hmm, it really was a marvelous night."
The homebody witch, while sitting up in bed, thought to herself.
Once her consciousness returned to her body, because she had rested well all of last night, she felt suddenly refreshed, as if the whole world was exceptionally clear and bright.
Although this was just an illusion, since a witch's body wouldn't possibly feel tired even after days without sleep, such an illusion wasn't too bad. It allowed her to have a sense of ritual, as if she were greeting the new day with a fresh face.
"I love to brush, brush, brush..."
Having resolved a concern and in a good mood, Dorothy hummed a little tune while magically controlling her toothbrush to brush her teeth; her plump, rounded buttocks twisted this way and that in rhythm with the toothbrush, quite contentedly.
"Hmm, I have a feeling that today will be another joyful day."
When the magic receded, she glanced at the ordinary-looking girl with braids and glasses in the mirror, then pushed open her bedroom door and walked out.
Sophia was also about to wake, it was time to prepare breakfast.
Half an hour later, when the Angel Witch came out of her room, she immediately smelled the enticing aroma coming from the kitchen.
Seeing the young lady in an apron in the kitchen, even someone as emotionally detached as she felt a surge of happiness.
However, Sophia quickly suppressed the flutter in her heart and returned to her usual calm, because until the trouble plaguing her was resolved, such happiness was not something she was entitled to enjoy.
The pleasures of home are the grave of heroes. Indulging in such false happiness would only sap her fighting spirit and make her weak.
"Don't be fooled by the young lady's sweet talking of family nonsense, our relationship is merely that of a retainer and a future sovereign, it's just a teacher's assignment, after all. I still can't get along with her."
Reminding herself of this, the Pure White Witch forcibly regained her usual tranquility.
"Yo, you're awake, just a moment, breakfast is almost ready," Dorothy called out upon seeing her roommate already sitting at the dining table, waiting to eat.
Soon after, she took a large loaf of freshly baked bread out of the oven and, with a few swift cuts, sliced it into evenly thick pieces.
Today's breakfast was a bit simpler, consisting of a glass of nutritious and tasty Ferocious Bull Dragon Milk, as usual, along with bread, grilled sausage, and vegetables made into a sandwich.
Though the bread's blood-red color looked a bit strange, there was no helping it since the flour was milled from a miraculous grain called Titan's Blood Wheat.
Legend had it that this wondrous ingredient, as large as a person in each grain, could only be cultivated with the blood of Titan Giants and would ripen once every hundred years, making it very rare. Regular consumption could greatly strengthen physical fitness and promote bodily development.
Especially for a half-witch like Dorothy, such an ingredient would make her Witch Bloodline more active, accelerating the assimilation of her Witch Blood into her human blood, helping her become a pure Dragon Witch sooner.
"Sorry to keep you waiting, breakfast is served!" Dorothy announced while directing her Magic Tentacles to place the plates on the table, and then both began to enjoy their delicious breakfast.

Although the blood-colored bread seemed rather frightening, the taste was surprisingly good, even softer and sweeter than regular bread.
One bite, combined with the savory taste of the sausage made from Demon Monsters' wild boar meat, plus the fresh, crispy, slightly tart and refreshing iceberg lettuce, created a rich taste that was greasy yet not cloying, extraordinarily delicious.
Yeah, it's definitely my handiwork, absolutely superb.
The homebody witch enjoyed her breakfast while mentally giving herself a pat on the back.
"Will you be busy at the Student Council all day today as well? How are the festival preparations coming along?"
Dorothy took a sip of Dragon Milk, then stuck out her tongue to lick the milk foam at the corners of her mouth before making a casual inquiry to Sophia sitting opposite her.
"Hmm, there are still some final arrangements needed for the festival, and these past few days have been very busy. However, I will try my best not to work overtime," replied Sophia.
The Pure White Witch spoke, then looked across at the young lady with slight hesitation before speaking up.
"Miss, are you going to see Ruthfiel today? Her personality can be quite unpleasant. Miss, you shouldn't indulge her too much, the more you give in, the more she'll push the limits," she said.
Just thinking about her Fallen Angel Incarnation gave Sophia a headache.
Self-loving people tend to like themselves the most, and those with insecurities often hate themselves the worst. The Pure White Witch was exactly such a person, filled with a form of self-loathing.
After all, anyone dealt with such an extraordinary life story would likely feel somewhat insecure.
The beauty, strength, and perfection she displayed on the outside as the flawless Student Council President were merely a front, a mask she wore to hide her vulnerable inner self, deceiving both others and herself.
And the real her was just as the young lady had said before: possessing immense strength, but lacking the heart of a true strong person.
Whenever she faced her Fallen Angel Incarnation, Sophia felt as if she was looking into a mirror—and not just any mirror, but a magic mirror that reflected the true self, constantly reminding her that the perfect Student Council President was nothing but a fragile lie and that the unfeeling and ruthless bad woman was her true nature.
Sophia despised Ruthfiel more than anyone else.
And she thought, likely Ruthfiel felt the same way about her.
Their relationship was much like light and shadow—mutually loathing, yet inseparable.
So even though the principal and the incarnation should have been a trustworthy relationship, once the incarnation was differentiated, they never saw each other again.
If it weren't for the young lady reuniting them, the original and the incarnation would probably never interact until the plan was officially set in motion.
Sophia knew better than anyone what kind of bad woman Ruthfiel was, so she felt it was necessary to warn the naive young lady not to be deceived or used by that bad woman.
Even as her incarnation, Ruthfiel wouldn't go too far or truly harm the young lady, but still, it was always good to be more cautious.
Upon hearing the Pure White Witch's words, Dorothy was taken aback. The homebody witch then thought of the self-important Fallen Angel bar owner they had encountered at the nightclub, and she shuddered involuntarily.
That Fallen Angel was too wicked; she couldn't handle it.
"No, no, I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to control myself around your incarnation. I prefer you just the way you are, Sophia. As for Ruthfiel, I plan to send the Fairy King in my stead. Today, I myself want to work on rebuilding the club," Dorothy said.
In response, the Angel Witch across nodded, a faint sense of loss in her eyes.
Even though she herself had told the young lady to be wary of Ruthfiel, deep down, she didn't truly want the young lady to dislike Ruthfiel.
After all, that bad woman was her true self, and the perfect Sophia was nothing but a front.
Sigh, does even the young lady prefer the façade I put on?
...The Angel Witch was feeling conflicted...
What do you think?
