Chapter 125: Chapter 125: After Raising a Child and Becoming Rich in That Era, the Delicate Beauty Was Spoiled 45 Times
The Qin family’s lineage was thin. Starting from Qin Lianqi’s father’s generation, they had been only children, and even now, there was only one son: Qin Lianqi.
The initial rush to get Qin Lianqi married was because the elders were getting on in years and wanted to see him settle down and start a family early, to enjoy their days playing with grandchildren.
However, Qin Lianqi, without a word, went to teach at a rural primary school, and over the years, his family had reflected a lot, wondering if they had been too hasty. Grandfather Qin, as well as Qin Lianqi’s father and mother, all wondered when he would return.
This time, Qin Lianqi not only came back, but he also found such an excellent wife that Grandfather Qin’s face bloomed with smiles.
He would have to show off to them well when he went back, for he was the first in the family to meet the granddaughter-in-law.
Contentedly humming a tune, the old man left the academic building.
“Ruanruan, what would you like to eat later?” Qin Lianqi and she walked hand in hand across the campus. He gave their hands a shake and, on a whim, said, “How about coming to my place? I’ll cook for you myself?”
The two of them had been inseparable lately, and although school had been in session for only a week, the whole Jinghua University was almost abuzz with the news, and even many professors were aware of their romance.
“You can cook, Teacher Qin?” Su Zhiruan asked curiously, looking up at him with bright eyes, “If that’s the case, then I really have to try it.”
“Of course, let’s go to my place,” Qin Lianqi smiled, “Before we go to my house, can I ask for a term of endearment other than Teacher Qin?”
It hadn’t been long that Su Zhiruan had been with him, but the titles she had grown accustomed to over the past two years were hard to change at once. Even though they were officially together now, exchanging sweet nothings daily, she still couldn’t break the habit of calling him Teacher Qin. She suddenly tiptoed closer to the man’s ear, her breath fluttering like a feather, “Dear…”
“How about this?” she asked Qin Lianqi, standing back with excitement.
Qin Lianqi pinched his earlobe, the girl’s tender and fragrant breath wrapped around his nose before slowly seeping into his heart.
It felt like dense feathers gradually entwining or fine silk threads kneaded between the fingertips, creating an endless sense of longing.
His voice was noticeably huskier, “That’s just perfect.”
Su Zhiruan was just an ordinary person who had merely made a joke. If she were really asked to call him by that name in public, she would definitely be embarrassed.
The two of them bantered back and forth with each comment as they walked towards Qin Lianqi’s house.
At the moment, Qin Lianqi did not live with the Qin family and was not reliant on them for his livelihood.
He had found some success in his own business venture before and continued to manage it upon his return.
The apartment was one he had bought before leaving, and Su Zhiruan had come over once with him after arriving in Jinghua.
“Let’s buy some groceries first. Do you have anything specific you want to eat, Ruanruan?” Qin Lianqi asked, his eyes and forehead creased with a light smile, “My cooking skills are supposed to be quite good.”
“Having meals with you recently, I have been gaining weight,” Su Zhiruan pretended to sigh but turned her head with a smile, “However, today I get to taste what Teacher Qin makes himself, so I should definitely pick a few dishes.”
“Of course, it would be my honor.”
Their spirits were both stable, and even though they spent every day together, there was always more to talk about.
Soon, they had bought vegetables and meat and Qin Lianqi led her upstairs. He opened the door to a very cozy little home.
“Last time I came here, it was to clean with you.”
Su Zhiruan remembered the last time she visited, when Qin Lianqi mentioned he had an apartment here and she tagged along. Although Qin Lianqi said he could clean up by himself, she still joined in, and together they quickly tidied the entire place.
Qin Lianqi had really forward-thinking tastes. Su Zhiruan had looked at houses before, and noted that most people chose wooden furniture and decorated in a more retro style, but his place, with sunlight warmly shining on the tiles, had a bright living room that felt very cozy.
“You sit and watch TV for a bit, I’ll go cook, it’ll be ready soon,” Qin Lianqi said, heading to the kitchen with groceries, passing a bottle of soda and some snacks to Su Zhiruan, “Just snack a little to tide you over, don’t eat too much.”
“I’ll come and help you. My cooking skills are average, but I’m a professional when it comes to assisting,” Su Zhiruan blinked, saying this while taking out vegetables and meat from the bag and washing them in a basin after picking them over.
Qin Lianqi felt a warm, indescribable surge of warmth blossom in his heart, thinking that this might be the happiness described in books.
Seeing the person he loved right by his side, inseparable, and huddled together in the kitchen cooking, was an unspeakable joy and bliss.
In this world, if one could find such a kindred spirit to accompany them for life, that in itself was a blessing.
“I’ll handle this fish.” Qin Lianqi took the fish and started to clean it skillfully. “Ruanruan, get the seasonings. Let’s marinate the fish together.”
Su Zhiruan turned around, took out the seasoning bottles, and, holding them, came over to Qin Lianqi, “I think this flavor should be good.”
“Let’s try it.”
…
As time ticked by, the sky gradually darkened.
The tantalizing meal was served on the dining table.
On a whim, Su Zhiruan made a few new dishes, and Qin Lianqi brought the six dishes and one soup to the table.
“Delicious!” She picked up the meatball that Qin Lianqi had made by hand, and her eyes lit up as she bit into it, “Teacher Qin’s cooking is really good!”
The meatball was bouncy, and biting into it, one could even feel the juice bursting forth, the salty and savory taste just right, elevated by the secret sauce drizzled on the outside, making this simple dish exceptionally tasty.
It was sprinkled with some vegetables, and one bite didn’t feel greasy at all; instead, the meat’s flavor and the vegetables’ freshness worked together delightfully!
“What you made is delicious too.” Qin Lianqi kept reaching for the dishes she had made.
Su Zhiruan had thought her cooking skills had improved, but after taking a bite, she realized she might have used a bit too much oil, making it somewhat greasy.
Qin Lianqi didn’t mind, “It’s good to have one person who can cook in the family. After we get married, I’ll cook for you every day.”
He was smiling when he said the word “marriage.”
It wasn’t an empty promise, he was very sincere, and Su Zhiruan could feel it.
“Teacher Qin,” Su Zhiruan put down her chopsticks and leaned her elbow on the table, “the way we are now, it feels like we’ve already slipped into the life of an old married couple. It feels like it’s been a very long time, even though we’ve known each other for nearly three years and have been together for nearly three months. It’s really strange to have this kind of illusion.”
“For me, I feel like time is flying by too fast.” Qin Lianqi also put down his chopsticks and looked deeply into her eyes, tenderly affectionate.
What do you think?
