PATH OF THE STAR HUNTER

Chapter 4

Chapter 4: Chapter 4 Rabbit, do you dare to spit on me?

Calm down, Desmond, calm, take a deep breath and calm down. . . calm me down? Really? Given the current circumstances, I don’t think doing that will make any difference.

After a couple of breaths, I managed to calm down and think about what I had learned from my father. Let’s think about it carefully. Now that I reread it, the mission description reveals vital information.

Apparently, the notebook or the hunter’s book is not some system crap; it seems to be some kind of magical communication device that connects with some sort of organization called the interdimensional association of hunters.

The notebook must have belonged to someone in my family a long time ago, and that person left the notebook when he died to be discovered by one of his descendants. The most uptodat𝓮 n𝒐vels are published on n0velbjn((.))com

Apparently, the moment I take it, I activate some strange inheritance protocol that includes the missions I must carry out.

These should not be too dangerous as it mentions that the person requesting it is expected to have only the basics to be a hunter; Besides, even if I can’t meet most of the goals, all I have to do is survive the seven days.

The rewards seem pretty generous, although I don’t know how much those items are worth; at least the serums sound helpful.

.....

Putting aside everything I’ve discovered so far, I think it shouldn’t be that difficult to accomplish most mission objectives. Now that I think about it, even the weapons that come in my rookie pack are things that I am familiar with.

Here comes another session on things about me; although it has not been noticed until now, I am brilliant, and my academic grades have always been quite good. Unfortunately, I have never been very passionate about school, not since 5 years ago. On the other hand, sports are something that I really enjoy, like various martial arts and self-defense, to less conventional sports such as archery and parkour.

So my rookie set was most likely planned in advance and not just a coincidence, but I can’t even be considered an expert on the subject; I know a thing or two about survival and nature.

The usual thing now would be to seek shelter near a water source, then look for firewood to keep warm at night and animals away, and finally, look for a food source.

But this is not exactly an ordinary forest, nor can my circumstances be considered normal. So my next step is to find an excellent shady tree and figure out what the rest of the hunter’s book functions do.

I looked around and realized that, basically, any tree would do the job; they’re all gigantic and lush. I guess I’ll sit on that one in front.

I barely took three steps forward and from the base of the tree came out what appeared to be a kind of rabbit, as to why it only seems to be; You could say that the two little blue horns that stick out from the base of its cute ears are not something a rabbit should have.

For a moment, I felt time slow down around me as I stared at that deceptively cute creature that, for all I knew, could kill me with some super magical annihilation ability.

Unfortunately, the rabbit didn’t share my sense of timing, and as it watched the human look at it like an idiot, it started to make its horns glow while moving its ears back and forth. A sphere of water began gathering on the tip of its pink nose, and before I came out of my daze, it shot in my direction.

I’ve been in a fair amount of fights throughout my short life, so I can say that it felt like an excellent forehand to my ribs.

“curse! That hurts, little bastard. Seriously, nowadays, even a rabbit dares to spit on me and strut about it” Even though I was complaining like a child about the blow, I didn’t stop moving.

I quickly took a side jump to dodge the next water shot from the strange rabbit; based on my observation, the skill has a charge time of around two seconds. It may not be a lot to do a counter-attack, but it is enough to dodge more shots.

After a couple of lateral movements and keeping up, I managed to dodge the next five shots; When I started to run out of patience, the rabbit started panting and stopped spitting its damn water balls at me.

¨ Well, very well, it seems that you ran out of fuel, my little friend; Let’s see if one or two arrows help you recover. . . in the afterlife.¨ I must admit that a line so bad that it seems to come out of a movie from the ’90s does not make me proud, But what can I say right now? I don’t feel like being more resourceful.

I adjust my posture, then adjust my breathing, take the bow, place the arrow and start to pull the string; my vision perfectly fixed on my prey, and I release my hand. . . only to fail.

shiiiik!

After emitting a strange screech, the rabbit leaped nimbly enough to dodge the arrow I had just released, only to find a second arrow that it didn’t even see coming through its fluffy chest.

Apparently, the arrow caused severe damage to its small body as the rabbit died almost instantly, although that did not prevent it from spilling a large amount of blood. I think I have nausea; although it is not my first time seeing blood, that is precisely the problem; It brings me bad memories.

Now I had no idea what to do; next, it took me a few moments to snap out of my stupor, and I proceeded to do something I assumed would work; use the hunter’s book analysis function.

It turned out to be a bit more complex than I thought and a lot more technical and scientific approach for an association that uses magic extensively, if you ask me. Now let’s analyze this rabbit.

Point the notebook at the rabbit’s corpse and activate the analysis function by pressing the notebook’s name.

Great, that was quick. Let’s see. . . WHAT?
