Path to Becoming the Greatest Space Mercenary

Chapter 113 Counterattack

Avery ran down the fastest route towards the hangar where Ezra’ and Kaiden’s ships were docked.

Jasmine had just contacted him that a group of people were attacking the Dauntless. Almost certainly to get to Grito.

Fortunately, she managed to escape out into space, but it was not long before a massive group of vessels came to attack.

For some reason they were obsessed with taking out the Dauntless, and Jasmine was currently flying for her life.

When Avery finally reached the hangar, he found the group that had been attacking his ship packing up their weapons and getting ready to flee. @@novelbin@@

Of course, after what they had just done, he was not going to let them go.

Without any semblance of hesitation, he jumped into their ranks and started tearing them apart with his power armor.

To anyone watching him, it was clear that he was going on a rampage without any concern for his own safety.

Having his ship and one of his girls targeted had undoubtably pissed him off. Now he was taking out his anger on the perpetrators.

Still, they were a group of private soldiers, and once they had gotten over the sudden surprise of a hulking suit of power armor jumping into their midst, they began to fight back.

Avery shields had already taken a beating from the back-to-back fight against terrorists, so under a concentrated bombardment he was not going to last long.

Thankfully, he had reliable backup to bail him out of the situation he had thrown himself into.

From the hangar’s entrance, Kasandra and Kaiden provided ranged support, while Ezra leapt into the fray himself.

The battle was hard-fought, but eventually, the private soldiers were forced to retreat after losing far too many of their members. If they had stayed, perhaps they might have eventually won, but the costs simply would have been too great. And with their target having already escaped, there was really no reason to stay.

Avery growled as the ones that had attacked his ship got away but pursuing them would take up valuable time they did not have right now.

Currently Jasmine was under attack outside the colony, and they needed to join her to provide support.

"This guy is still alive. Should we bring him with us?" Kasandra said, her ears twitching as she confirmed the heartbeat of one of the private soldiers they had just fought.

He had some broken bones since he took a punch from Avery’s Sterkur power armor, but miraculously he had managed to survive.

"Yeah, we can interrogate him later." Avery replied, picking the man up without any delicacy.

After that, he and Kasandra followed Kaiden to his ship. It was larger than Ezra’s so it would be able to accommodate extra people better.

The moment Avery got onboard, he noticed Kasandra wince and scutch up her nose.

Just as she had told him when he rescued her, Kaiden’s ship was far from clean. Food containers were scattered throughout the ship, and there was a noticeable scent of smoke lingering in the air.

Honestly, Avery now understood why Kaiden’s sister had refused to board his vessel after losing her own and stayed with a stranger instead.

’Still, I guess I should be grateful he’s a bit of a slob. Otherwise, I might not have ended up with such a wonderful crew member and girlfriend.’

While Avery was thinking this, he dragged their captive into the vessel’s medical room and tossed the man into a medical pod.

This would make sure that he stayed alive but also sedated. There would be no chance of him randomly waking up and trying to attack them while they were busy.

As Kaiden started up his ship, Avery made his way towards the cargo bay and contacted both Kasandra and Kaiden.

"When we get out there, I’m planning on jumping over to the Dauntless. Try and mauver as close to it as possible for me."

"Are you insane?! That power armor you’re wearing isn’t meant for use in space. You’re going to get yourself killed!" Kaiden shouted in response.

"I’ve got to agree this time, Avery. You’ve done some reckless stuff, but this is completely foolhardy. Don’t die just to pull off a stupid stunt."

However, while Kasandra and Kaiden tried to convince Avery not to go through with his plan, he remained obstinate.

"Jasmine can’t pilot the Dauntless well enough to get through something like this. I need to get over there and take control. I’ll only be out in the open for a few seconds. The Sterkur can handle that much so long as I seal it and use the internal air storage. With its thrusters, I’ll coast into the cargo hold without a problem. I’m the leader of our group so just trust me. I can handle this."

Having given their warnings and expressed their dissent, Kasandra and Kaiden could only sigh and go along with what Avery wanted. They had chosen to follow him, and continuing to argue would only be a waste of time. All they could do was hope that things worked out.

When they finally left the Phregon III hanger, the three of them saw some suspiciously familiar vessels chasing after the Dauntless.

"What the hell are they doing here?" Avery mumbled, his helmet’s HUD currently linked to Kaiden’s ship’s viewscreen.

He obviously recognized the vessels that had assisted the pirates based in the Yuson System to escape from the Alliance Police’s blockade.

At first, he wondered if they had tracked him down for some kind of revenge, but that seemed unlikely.

If they were going to do that, attacking while he was in transit between population centers made more sense.

"Whatever. I can think about this later. It’s time to fill Jasmine in on my plan."

Connecting to the Dauntless, Avery reassured Jasmine and told her that he would be joining her soon.

She sounded a bit flustered when she responded to his order to open the ship’s cargo bay doors, but she did as she was commanded to.

Now all Avery needed to do was successfully jump from one vessel to another. Something that most would certainly consider crazy.
