Chapter 141 141 Breach
Jasmine continued her standoff with the aide that had betrayed Iniquus.
Her entire focus was on keeping her weapon level and ready to fire at a moment's notice. So even when she heard Avery and the others trying to contact her, she did not let her concertation waver.
If she could not save Vi'ivando, she needed to at least ensure the mutual destruction of the man dragging him away. That was what her gut was telling her.
'I can already tell from the fear in his eyes that he's not the type to so easily give up his life. Right now, he's just trying to figure a way to weasel his way out of this and still get away with Grtio's uncle. But time is on my side. I know that Avery won his fight, and Kasandra and Kaiden will be here soon. The longer this takes, the more it will be to my advantage.' Jasmine thought, trying to keep herself calm.
Holding a weapon on someone for an extend period of time was nerve-wracking, and allowing herself to slip up for even a moment could mean the worst-case scenario.
As time went by though, Iniquus' former aide finally began to feel the pressure. He had tried to come up with something to turn the situation around, but the only thing that might help was one of Iniquus' guards coming along and distracting the woman holding him at gunpoint.
Except, the more time went by, the less likely that anyone would come to assist him.
"Fine it seems that I must concede here. Nothing will be gained if I lose both Vi'ivando and my life."
Despite it sounding like the man was giving up, Jasmine could tell from the look in his eyes that he was not going to go quietly.
Then, in the next moment, he threw Vi'ivando away and hurried into the ship waiting for him.
Immediately Jasmine leapt forward and grabbed Grtio's uncle who was about to receive a nasty fall and fired off wildly in the direction of the fleeing man.
Regrettably, none of her shots hit, and the door to the ship he was on closed and blocked the rest of her blasts.
Jasmine's eyes went wide as she realized what was going to happen next, and she attempted to rush out of the corridor before it occurred.
Yet, she was too late.
The ship Iniquus' former aide had boarded ripped away from the station and damaged the airlock door in the process.
There were typically safety mechanisms in place in case of dangerous situations like this, but they had been disabled remotely thanks to the spiteful man that was running away. If he could not have Vi'ivando, he would see him sucked out into the vacuum of space. Along with the hateful girl that had gotten in his way.
As the air began being pulled out of the station, Jasmine felt the suction reach her and she was pulled off her feet.
She felt her muscles straining as she grabbed onto the edge of a doorframe and held onto Vi'ivando.
"If I can just get inside." Jasmine growled as she tried to pull herself up.
It was sheer dumb luck that she had been near a storage room right before the station was breached.
While the vanishing oxygen supply might eventually become a worry, she needed to find some refuge to avoid being dragged out into space. She would last all of a few seconds should she end up floating out into space.
Sadly, her luck only extended to having something to brace herself with. The room was locked, and in her current condition, it was impossible to use the tools necessary to get it open.
Feeling her strength and stamina sapped away, along with the air becoming thinner, Jasmine did not know how long she could hang on.
Of course, keeping ahold of the unconscious and bound Vi'ivando was also difficult. It forced her to only grip the doorway with a single hand and was tiring her out more quickly than if she could use both.
For a moment, she considered letting him go but shook her head at such a selfish thought. It went against her own personal ethics and would leave a bad taste in her mouth. Doing so would essentially mean that she had lost against the man who had once been Iniquus' aide.
"Jasmine!"
Just as her grip was beginning to loosen and she thought she might be sucked out of the station. Jasmine heard a familiar voice calling for her.
Looking down the corridor she was in, she saw Kasandra and Kaiden peeking around the edge of the nearest intersecting hallway. Both of them bracing themselves to avoid being dragged away.
Their presence reinvigorated Jasmine's spirit and her strength that had been fading came back in a powerful burst of motivation.
Nevertheless, she could not exert herself for much longer or she really would falter.
"Grab on! We'll pull you in!" Kasandra shouted, throwing a long piece of cable down the corridor.
Normally it would have limply fallen to the ground, but the suction from the breach left it dangling in the air within Jasmine's reach.
Trusting in her companions, she grabbed ahold of the lifeline and wrapped it around herself and Vi'ivando. And in doing so let go of the doorway she had been holding onto.
Naturally, this had her begin pulled backwards, but she held onto the cable and felt Kasandra and Kaiden anchoring her.
Slowly and with immense effort, the two of them pulled her and Grito's uncle down the passage until they made it to the intersection and were able to reach relative safety.
There was still some suction from the air being pulled out of the area, but it was far weaker thank to not being in a straight line with the breach.
"Glad to see that you're alive and retrieved our target. But I'm afraid that now's not the time to be resting. We need to seal this corridor, or the entire station might depressurize."
Jasmine nodded her head and gritted her teeth. Through sheer willpower she forced herself up and got to work helping Kasandra and Kaiden manually engage the emergency bulkhead that should have automatically deployed to contain the breach.
What do you think?
