Chapter 1151: 1148: Carving Ice Flowers
Chapter 1151: Chapter 1148: Carving Ice Flowers
“Thank you, Princess,” Ye Muyu replied, sitting not far from the Elder Princess’s chair, with Madam Tang facing her.
The Elder Princess said, “I’ve heard that Tang Beauty and Madam are old acquaintances?”
This question was directed at Ye Muyu, but before she could answer, Madam Tang cut in, “Your Highness, Concubine was from the same village as Madam. Back then… Concubine was just a humble peasant girl, but because I offended Madam, I almost… ah, I misspoke, to see Madam makes Concubine very happy.”
Seeing that the Elder Princess said nothing, Ye Muyu promptly performed a courtesy and said, “In response to Your Highness, Concubine indeed knows Tang Beauty from the past.”
She had no further comments.
This made Madam Tang seem rather petty. Realizing this, her face slightly changed.
The Elder Princess made a noise of acknowledgment, “It seems the two of you didn’t get along well in the past?”
Ye Muyu knew that Madam Tang wanted to trouble her, but this question was indeed hard to follow up. After thinking it over, she decided to minimize the issue in keeping with a low-profile approach, “Just some minor conflicts.”
“Tang Beauty, wouldn’t you agree?” Ye Muyu said with a light smile. What Madam Tang had done initially, like drugging Xie Yu and attempting to offer herself to him, was not something she dared mention aloud.
Hearing the implication in her words, Madam Tang sneered and responded recklessly, “Is Madam afraid of what I might say? Back then, I was almost killed by Lord Chu when he was still a scholar, this threat to me, Madam would naturally be afraid of.”
“Tang Beauty speaks amiss. If my husband were such a lawless person, how could he dare to be an official? If it were as Tang Beauty claims, that my husband misused his authority over you, there would naturally be people to impeach him. Tang Beauty need not make these baseless claims before Her Highness,” Ye Muyu said composedly.
Madam Tang was so angry that her hands trembled. She looked to the Elder Princess instinctively, hoping that by speaking thus she could provoke the Elder Princess to discipline Ye Muyu. No matter the truth, as long as the Elder Princess spoke up, Ye Muyu would have no way to refuse.
“Forgive me, Your Highness,” Madam Tang instantly put on a weak and helpless expression and knelt to perform a courtesy.
The Elder Princess looked at her and realized she was trying to manipulate her. She felt a wave of disgust; somebody was brazen enough to expect her aid on the strength of an uncertain report.
This person was indeed too bold and too greedy.
Still, she needed the information from her, so placating her for now was not a pressing concern.
“Madam, I wonder if you have ever seen a kind of ice sculpture?” the Elder Princess spoke up. “I marvel at your skillful hands. Could you make an ice flower for this Princess?”
“If Your Highness does not disdain it, Concubine will exert every effort.” Ye Muyu knew she couldn’t avoid this predicament. Making an ice flower was merely a bit cold on the hands, not an unacceptable challenge, so she naturally accepted.
Given Madam Tang’s character, she would have been delighted to see her kneeling on the ice, both losing face and suffering; Ye Muyu could not afford to give her this opportunity.
Holding a box of ice, Ye Muyu left swiftly.
Madam Tang did not expect the Elder Princess’s challenge to be so simple. For a moment, she felt indignant but dared not speak more, instead clenching the palm of her hand unwillingly.
Meanwhile, the confrontation between Ye Muyu and Madam Tang also caught the eyes of Madam Liu, who watched Ye Muyu depart.
Ye Muyu was taken to another location, besides Chun Xing and Su Mei, the two maidservants, there were also two from the Princess’ Mansion accompanying her.
What do you think?
