Chapter 12
Jin Fei's life in the hospital was even happier than Zhao Yue had imagined.
Before bedtime, a beautiful nurse would come to bid her goodnight and take her temperature. In the morning, someone would bring her a delicious breakfast and even chat with her.
As they chatted, their relationship grew closer.
Which nurse wouldn’t like a beautiful, polite, and easygoing young lady who never made unreasonable demands?
In just half a day, Jin Fei had received several snacks from the nurses, and her days were as blissful as a butterfly fluttering among flowers.
"Miss Jin," Assistant Yang stepped into the ward and saw a nurse leaning close to Jin Fei, giggling with her hand over her mouth, while another nurse stood behind Jin Fei, combing her hair.
What kind of luxurious treatment was this?
"Hello," Jin Fei looked up at Assistant Yang. "Are you Mr. Shi's assistant?"
"Just call me Assistant Yang," said the assistant, feeling that her own ability to attract the same sex paled in comparison to Miss Jin's.
No wonder she was the universally acknowledged goddess of Imperial Capital University, captivating both men and women alike.
Jin Fei casually straightened the slightly upturned collar of the nurse beside her and smiled at Assistant Yang. "What brings you here today? Is there something from Mr. Shi?"
"The boss left in a hurry earlier and was worried that you might not like the hospital's bland meals, so he asked me to bring you lunch," Assistant Yang placed the lunchbox on the table. "He originally planned to bring it himself, but something urgent came up at the company, so he got delayed."
"Thank you, this is too much trouble for you," Jin Fei smiled. "Mr. Shi came early this morning to take care of me. It must have disrupted his work, right?"
"It’s no trouble at all," Assistant Yang helped Jin Fei set up the meal. Seeing this, the two nurses whispered a few reminders to Jin Fei before leaving the ward.
"Have you eaten yet?" Jin Fei didn’t start eating right away but instead asked Assistant Yang first.
Assistant Yang was slightly taken aback. "Thank you, I’ve already eaten."
In truth, to ensure Jin Fei’s meal wasn’t delayed, Assistant Yang had rushed over without even taking a sip of water. But such details weren’t something an assistant should mention.
"Then have some fruit," Jin Fei picked up a plate of neatly sliced fruit and handed it to Assistant Yang.
The fruit was beautifully cut, some even shaped like hearts. Assistant Yang suspected the nurses had prepared it.
"Thank you," Assistant Yang didn’t refuse this time. She sat down on the nearby sofa and quietly ate the fruit.
As she glanced up, she noticed how effortlessly graceful Jin Fei’s eating manner was—not overly refined but naturally pleasant, making it easy for others to feel at ease and even more hungry.
As a result, she couldn’t help but eat a few more pieces of fruit.
After the meal, the doctor conducted another check-up on Jin Fei and confirmed that she was fine before allowing her to be discharged.
Assistant Yang helped Jin Fei pack up her things in the ward. Halfway through, Shi Yibai hurried back into the room.
"Boss?" Assistant Yang was surprised to see Shi Yibai return specifically.
"I’ll take care of it," Shi Yibai nodded slightly to Assistant Yang, then walked over to Jin Fei’s side. With a few deft movements, he organized the messy bags into neat order.
Men really were handy—no matter how chaotic things were, they could tidy them up in no time.
However...
Jin Fei noticed the wound on Shi Yibai’s hand. "You’re hurt. Touching other things might hurt you. Let me do it."
With that, she picked up the items on the table and stuffed them into the bag.
Shi Yibai glanced at the bag, then glanced again, and finally sighed. Using his uninjured hand, he flipped the upside-down cup right side up.
What a meticulous and delicate man.
"All done," Shi Yibai averted his gaze from the haphazardly packed bag and lifted it in his hand. "I’ll take you home."
"Wait," Jin Fei reached for the bag but... couldn’t lift it.
She looked at Shi Yibai, and Shi Yibai looked back at her.
"I can carry these things myself," Jin Fei insisted.
"Boss, let me do it," Assistant Yang stepped forward eagerly and took the bag in her own hands.
Being an assistant wasn’t easy—one had to know when to flatter the boss appropriately.
As they passed the nurses’ station, the nurses came forward to bid Jin Fei farewell and shared some health tips with her.
Assistant Yang watched the scene of Jin Fei surrounded by nurses and couldn’t help but marvel: If this were a man, it would undoubtedly be a scene of a playboy in action.
Surrounded by beauties, sweet words exchanged—many men could only dream of such a scenario, yet here it was, happening to a woman.
She glanced at her boss, who showed no signs of impatience but instead wore an inexplicably tolerant expression.
When Jin Fei finally emerged from the group of nurses, she was holding even more snacks that girls loved.
Assistant Yang: "..."
Did she come to the hospital just to collect snacks?
The discharge procedures had already been completed. As Jin Fei stepped into the elevator, she heard someone call out, "Goddess sister?"
Jin Fei stared at the young man for a few moments before recognizing him as the cute anime-style boy from the entertainment club. Without his usual makeup, his fair face made him almost unrecognizable.
"Sister, are you feeling unwell?" The boy’s smile was sweet, and his tone sounded almost like he was cooing.
"Nothing serious," Jin Fei lowered her head and shared some of the snacks she was holding with the boy. "Are you sick?"
"Sister, are you worried about me?" The boy didn’t seem disappointed that Jin Fei hadn’t answered his question and continued, "Just a routine check-up. I didn’t expect to run into you, sister. Today must be my lucky day."
He glanced at Shi Yibai standing behind Jin Fei and whispered to her, "When will you come to play with me again, sister?"
Jin Fei raised an eyebrow and smiled, "When I have time."
The boy’s smile dimmed slightly. "Sister, can we exchange WeChat..."
Jin Fei raised a finger, shaking it with a playful smile. "Boys who behave are the ones girls like."
"Alright," the boy lowered his head dejectedly. "Then you must come soon, sister."
Assistant Yang: "..."
Was this the live-action version of "The Devoted Boy and the Heartless Playgirl"?
Previously, there were rumors online that Xie Lisu and Lin Xiaoxiao got engaged because Jin Fei didn’t fancy him and refused to let him marry into her family. Assistant Yang had thought it was just tabloids making up stories for clicks, but today she began to reconsider.
Perhaps Jin Fei really didn’t care for Xie Lisu and had only been toying with him during their relationship.
Xie Lisu, in an attempt to save face, had hastily found someone to get engaged to.
Realizing this, Assistant Yang’s gaze toward Jin Fei was now filled with admiration. She truly hoped Miss Jin would write a book titled *The Art of Being a Playgirl*. She would definitely buy ten copies—five for herself and five to gift to her girlfriends.
As the elevator doors opened, Assistant Yang noticed the young boy still lingering reluctantly behind Jin Fei.
"Sister, you must remember to come..."
"Jin Fei," a man in a long coat strode over, his steps hurried. "Auntie Zhou told me you were in a car accident. Are you hurt anywhere?"
"I’m fine," Jin Fei glanced at Zhao Yue, who was trotting behind Zhao Jiuyu. "Why are you here?"
"We heard you were in an accident and came to check on you," Zhao Yue took one look at Jin Fei and knew she was perfectly fine. Noticing the anime-style boy beside Jin Fei, Zhao Yue pulled her aside and whispered, "Girl, why do you even have a cute boy accompanying you in the hospital?"
"We just happened to run into each other," Jin Fei raised an eyebrow. "Don’t assume I have ulterior motives just because there’s a guy around me."
"I’m not doubting you; I’m doubting them," Zhao Yue gave Jin Fei a sideways glance. Don’t you know how much of a flirt you are?
Zhao Jiuyu, seeing the two young women huddled together, whispering and occasionally glancing at the young man, furrowed his brows slightly. "Xiao Yue!"
"Brother, what is it?" Zhao Yue noticed Zhao Jiuyu’s serious expression and hid herself behind Jin Fei.
Seeing Jin Fei shielding Zhao Yue, Zhao Jiuyu’s expression softened slightly. "It’s nothing."
"Ladies, I’ll take my leave now," the boy, sensing that the goddess’s friend’s brother wasn’t too fond of him, took the initiative to bid Jin Fei farewell. "Don’t forget to come find me."
Zhao Yue suspected that she, the "beautiful older sister," was just an add-on for Jin Fei.
"Who is he?" Zhao Jiuyu glanced at the retreating figure of the handsome young man and looked at Zhao Yue sternly. "Zhao Yue, did you take Jin Fei to some shady place?"
"What do you mean by shady?" Hearing her brother call her by her full name, Zhao Yue knew he was genuinely upset. She muttered, "It was just listening to music and having a drink."
"Young women like you should..."
"It was just spending money to have a drink and unwind," Jin Fei interjected, noticing Zhao Yue's fear of Zhao Jiuyu. She placed a hand on Zhao Yue's shoulder. "Don't blame Zhao Yue. She only went out with me to cheer me up."
Zhao Yue looked at Jin Fei with gratitude. She truly was a ride-or-die best friend, taking all the blame.
At the mention of "cheer up," Zhao Jiuyu seemed to recall something, and the anger on his face froze.
Jin Fei patted Zhao Yue sympathetically. This girl's fear of her brother was something that would never change, not even in a hundred lifetimes.
In her memory, Zhao Jiuyu was a very strict person who disapproved of them going out to have fun.
"Brother Zhao, that boy was here to hang out with me. It has nothing to do with Yueyue," Jin Fei said, raising an eyebrow at Zhao Yue. "Right, Yueyue?"
"Right, those handsome young men are always drawn to Feifei," Zhao Yue quickly nodded. However, she sadly realized that this explanation didn't improve her brother's mood—if anything, it made him look even more displeased.
"Young girls naturally enjoy lively and fun activities," Shi Yibai said with a slight smile. "It's not something to be overly harsh about."
Zhao Jiuyu turned to look at the man who had spoken. After a moment, he extended his hand. "Hello, I'm Zhao Jiuyu. I've watched Feifei grow up, so I can't help but keep an eye on her."
"Shi Yibai."
The two men shook hands briefly before letting go.
Shi Yibai tilted his head to look at Jin Fei, removing his gold-rimmed glasses. His eyes carried a hint of amusement. "Miss Jin is my... savior."
What do you think?
