Chapter 3
Jin Fei took a step back, perfectly displaying her shock and fear.
The girl in the dress thought she had misheard. She was stunned for a moment before asking, "What... what did you just say?"
"I said, as a woman, you should act like one." Jin Fei leaned back slightly, her entire face screaming "don't touch me." "Stay away from me."
"Jin Fei..." Xie Lisu couldn't stand it anymore. "You're considered the goddess of Imperial Capital University. Can't we just part on good terms? Do you have to make things so ugly?"
"Women are talking. What business does a man like you, who flirts with everyone, have chiming in?!" Jin Fei was not the type to be swayed by charm or linger in romantic entanglements. In fact, she had a rather strong sense of female superiority. "A grown man like you, lacking in virtue and careless in conduct—what right do you have to speak to me?"
The girl in the dress stared at Jin Fei with wide eyes, as if she had just uttered something terrifying.
Seeing the girl still staring at her with burning intensity, Jin Fei took another step back. She really had no interest in women.
"Jin Fei, what are you saying?" The girl in the dress glanced at Xie Lisu, whose expression was growing darker by the second, and quickly added, "Please don't let me come between you two."
Eager to diffuse the awkward tension, the girl accidentally caught her high heel in a crack in the pavement. She let out a startled cry and began to fall.
"Careful!" Jin Fei reached out, catching the girl by the waist and steadying her.
The girl looked petite, but she was surprisingly heavy. Once she was steady, Jin Fei couldn't wait to let go.
She suspected the girl had thrown herself at her on purpose.
"Th-thank you," the girl stammered, her face slightly red as she stole a glance at Jin Fei. She had accidentally brushed against Jin Fei's chest and caught a faint whiff of her perfume...
That look, that look!
Jin Fei regretted it—deeply regretted it. She shouldn't have reached out to help.
"I..."
"Don't say anything," Jin Fei cut her off, fearing the girl might say something affectionate. "I'm always happy to help, whether it's a man or a woman. Don't read too much into it."
Without waiting for the girl to respond, Jin Fei turned and walked away.
She walked faster and faster, desperate to put as much distance between herself and the two as possible.
"Sis..." Jin Bo looked at Jin Fei with a mix of confusion and concern. Was his sister truly over Xie Lisu, or was she still holding onto feelings for that scoundrel?
"Let's go. Don't let her catch up." Jin Fei strode ahead with her long legs, only relaxing once the girl was out of sight.
"Why did you help someone like Lin Xiaoxiao, that little white lotus?" Jin Bo, who had been struggling to keep up, panted as he caught up. "When dealing with people like them, you should just slap them in the face."
"You don't understand," Jin Fei said gravely. "I suspect that woman has ulterior motives."
"Of course she does..."
"I think she's after my body," Jin Fei sighed. "But I'm a straight woman. I only like men."
"Huh?!" Jin Bo thought his sister's condition was getting complicated. She was even showing signs of narcissism.
"Are you overthinking it?" Jin Bo whispered. "That Xie Lisu... he was actually your ex-boyfriend. While he was dating you, he started getting involved with that little white lotus."
He didn't want to go into the messy details of how they later claimed it was "true love." It was too disgusting.
"My ex-boyfriend? That flirtatious man?" Jin Fei didn't hide her disdain. "Impossible. How could I have ever been interested in someone like that?"
"Exactly. A beauty like my sister would never fall for a man who can't stay loyal," Roommate #1 chimed in, deliberately ignoring the term "flirtatious" as he tried to flatter Jin Fei.
Jin Bo: Who's the real younger brother here?
Jin Fei smiled, satisfied. Her brother's roommates were quite adorable.
"Sis, sis," Roommate #2 piped up. "Can I add you on WeChat? If Jin Bo ever skips class, I'll let you know."
Jin Bo glared at his roommate. Was this how you treated a friend?
"Sure," Jin Fei said, pulling out her phone and adding Roommate #2 as a friend.
"Me too, me too!" The other two roommates quickly joined in. "Sis, we'll keep an eye on Jin Bo for you too."
Who cared about brotherhood? If it meant getting the goddess's WeChat, they'd sell out their friend in a heartbeat.
"Sis, I could tell right away that girl had ulterior motives when she approached you."
"Exactly. In this day and age, whether it's men or women, anyone could be after someone as stunning as you."
"Sis, you really need to be careful."
Jin Bo: "..."
Keep licking those boots.
Were they even trying to hide their desperation to impress a pretty girl?
As the younger brother, Jin Bo cringed at their shameless flattery. Meanwhile, his sister not only didn't seem embarrassed but smiled as if she believed every word they said.
One side was bold enough to flatter, and the other was bold enough to believe it.
Unbelievable.
After the incident with Lin Xiaoxiao and Xie Lisu, Jin Bo was feeling uneasy, but Jin Fei was in high spirits. She toured the campus before accompanying Jin Bo back to his dorm.
"Take good care of yourself while you're away."
"Don't eat anything too spicy or cold. It's bad for your health."
"If anyone dares to bully you, call me right away."
As Jin Fei continued to nag, Jin Bo nodded repeatedly. "Got it, got it."
"Alright," Jin Fei said, gently ruffling Jin Bo's hair. "Head back to your dorm now."
Jin Bo took a couple of steps toward the dorm entrance, then turned back to see his sister still standing there. For some reason, his heart softened. "Sis."
"Hmm?" Jin Fei smiled at him.
"Nothing," Jin Bo said, feeling awkward for a moment. "Take care of yourself at home."
"Don't worry," Jin Fei laughed. "I'm a grown woman. Of course, I can take care of myself."
Just don't talk. Every time you open your mouth, it gives me a headache.
Back in the dorm, Jin Bo watched as his three roommates suddenly became overly enthusiastic, serving him tea and water. He pretended not to notice their ulterior motives.
Ugh. Lustful men—no good comes from them.
During the peak of the school reporting season, it was hard to catch a taxi. Jin Fei stood at the school gate, sighing as she looked at the long queue on the ride-hailing app.
A noblewoman who only knew how to ride horses but not drive cars was at a disadvantage in modern society. She had to learn how to drive.
An ambitious woman never shies away from challenges.
While waiting at the school gate, several boys approached her asking for her WeChat. Jin Fei turned them all down.
What's wrong with boys these days? They have no sense of restraint.
"Beep, beep."
A car pulled up in front of Jin Fei, and the window rolled down to reveal Xie Lisu's face.
Jin Fei frowned and took a step back.
"Get in," Xie Lisu said coldly.
A man and a woman alone in a car? No way.
Jin Fei gave Xie Lisu a suspicious look. Was this man trying to seduce her?
"Don't waste your efforts on me," Jin Fei said, unwilling to drag out matters of the heart. "I've met plenty of men like you—claiming to be unconventional but actually just frivolous. A proper woman like me would never be interested in someone like you. Give it up."
"Are you out of your mind?" Xie Lisu suspected Jin Fei was deliberately humiliating him.
When he first met Jin Fei, Xie Lisu had been captivated.
Jin Fei was exceptional—beautiful, talented, and with an outstanding presence. She was worshipped as a goddess by countless male students. Having a girlfriend like her was indeed a source of pride for many men.
But over time, he realized that while Jin Fei was outstanding in every way, she was also... boring. She was like an expensive piece of art—beautiful to look at, but after a while, the novelty wore off.
In contrast, Lin Xiaoxiao, who was inferior to Jin Fei in many ways, was lively and endearing, making her far more appealing.
"Tch." Jin Fei didn't feel like arguing with a man on the street. It would be beneath her dignity as a noblewoman.
Xie Lisu watched as Jin Fei gave him a dismissive glance and walked away.
What kind of look was that?
It was the same look a janitor might give a piece of trash on the ground.
Xie Lisu felt insulted, but he couldn't get out of the car to confront her. The frustration sat heavy in his chest, leaving him utterly vexed.
In a distant corner, a greasy-haired man wearing a baseball cap muttered under his breath, "Rich playboys really have it easy. One moment they're accompanying their fiancées to register at school and having lunch together, and the next, they're hitting on girls on the street."
However, seeing the girl reject Xie Lisu’s advances, the man in the baseball cap couldn’t help but feel a bit smug. So what if you drive a luxury car? There are still women who won’t give you the time of day.
Some bored netizens love nothing more than seeing rich people embarrassed or unlucky. Originally, he had intended to capture photos of a celebrity’s rumored girlfriend, but instead, he ended up with some juicy gossip about the Xie family heir.
This piece of gossip might just bring them some traffic, the man thought. After a moment’s consideration, he sent the video to his editor.
He already had the headline in mind: "Playboy Heir Flirts with Girl on the Street, Gets Shut Down by Goddess, While Poor Fiancée’s Heart is Broken."
Unable to hail a ride, Jin Fei decided to take a stroll around.
Nearly every university has a food street nearby, and after a few twists and turns, Jin Fei found herself on one. The aroma of street food wafting through the air made her mouth water.
Hold back, noble prince, how could you stoop to eating street food?!
"Jin Fei?" A young man grilling skewers looked up at her. He stared at her for a few seconds, confirming he hadn’t mistaken her identity, then gave her a knowing smile. "I heard you’ve got a wealthy boyfriend and are planning to get married?"
Jin Fei focused her gaze on him. This man knew her?
He was wearing a slightly yellowed white T-shirt, stained with grease, and the smoke from the grill swirled around him, making him look a bit unkempt.
"That’s not true," Jin Fei replied. Seeing a young man struggling to run a small business on his own, she decided to buy a few skewers of grilled vegetables, holding them in her hand without eating.
The man, noticing her gesture of supporting his business, swallowed the sarcastic remarks he had been about to make.
He and Jin Fei had been high school classmates. Back then, many boys in school had harbored crushes on Jin Fei, and he had once fantasized about being her boyfriend. Two years ago, someone in the alumni group had mentioned that Jin Fei was dating a wealthy man, and he had thought to himself, "Pretty girls really do go for rich guys."
Not long ago, rumors had surfaced that Jin Fei’s wealthy boyfriend had dumped her.
A classmate who had once been rejected by Jin Fei had gloated, "Serves her right, gold diggers deserve to be dumped."
At the time, he had secretly agreed with the sentiment, but now, seeing Jin Fei standing before him, radiant and smiling, his perspective shifted.
Bah, what gold digger? A goddess like her could never be a gold digger. No matter what, the goddess could never be at fault.
It must be that scoundrel’s fault!
How could anyone not cherish a goddess? That dog man must have been blinded by pigs.
What do you think?
