Pestilence: Rise Of The Pure Undead

Chapter 414: Greenhouse

Ourlon was pleased with being given work again, practice made perfect they said, but swinging his blade at the same things over and over again, overseeing his followers doing the same was starting to get stale, there was always more to be done by swinging a blade to slash living flesh, with the intent to kill, but even then, it was yet time for this.

The general had greater plans than just sending them out to kill, otherwise he would not have made them all work to extend their troops, having even given them access to ways to diversify and train undeads into specific directions, Loimos was pretty much the best person to ask for such ways.

Ourlon walked around the main platform, his disciples interacting with the new recruits, paying a visit to another minor lord, dressed in the typical Tochian warrior attire, it had seen some revisions, coloured in black and white, the symbol of the dark sun upon his chest, right hand always resting on the hilt of his pale o-katana, he stepped into a flowery construction, sign that his fellow had indeed taken residence here wholeheartedly.

Amongst all of them, Yuolrt was probably the one that had been the least bored, since she accorded much of her time to researches and planting various things everywhere, being especially interested in the Lithitree, constantly attempting to find ways to replicate it in some capacity, Loimos himself could only create a single one that could remain into existence, after that, it was all temporary.

All of the druid’s adepts were of the same profession, sharing into that keen interest in the flora and fauna, it would not be an understatement to say that it was Yuolrt that had brought about the concept of undead flora into such a great amount, marks of her work were basically everywhere, trees, bushes, crops, but populating lands with undead creatures was also part of the druidic calling, as such, Ourlon wanted to get her opinion on how that should be done, with the sort of expansions planned for the future, not all would be able of getting assistance of the green-handed undeads.

Yuolrt’s quarters were simple, Ourlon’s was like a massive, incredibly well-equipped dojo, here, a wide circular room with an opening in the ceiling, a great tree with soft, limp branches, leading to bent shape, leaves seemingly cascading toward the ground.

"I believe that this is… A crying tree?" Ourlon wondered aloud, Yuolrt approaching from the side with small, deliberate steps.

The druidic skeleton looked much the same, with antlers carved with symbols, her skull split right down the middle, revealing a sort of green crystal within, however, she had had a change of wardrobe since the conquest of Viridis, ditching the simple robes and opting for one with much more layers, giving her a very floating appearance, considering that she was as lean as skeleton ought to be, without traces of remnant flesh and the likes.

Yuolrt was also smaller than most, only adding to this lightweight effect.

"Close, but we call those weeping trees, not crying trees" the druid’s arms were hanging all the down in front of her, hands joined together.

"Is this a minor Lithitree?" the warrior could sense some similarity between this plant and the legendary tree. @@novelbin@@

"Oh, I wish it was even an inferior one! All attempts to replicate, grow one from its seeds have been failures so far, the Lithitree had many qualities, and we failed to properly emulate any at the moment…"

"...This one is also a failed experiment, undeads standing directly under its canopy will experience fastened regeneration however, so it’s not completely worthless utility-wise" walking away from this tree, which despite being a failure, was still standing right at the entrance. "What are you here for Ourlon? Sorry if it is offensive, but you don’t strike me as a lover of nature" she lightly chuckled, walking into another part of the quarters, some sort of greenhouse, only that it was drowned in darkness, many plants of the undead empire thrived in the absence of light, this particular area was also excessively damp and warm, creating a most heavy atmosphere.

"Well, it seems like you saw right through me, but I am actually here to talk plant, General Loimos seems to be preparing us for extensive operations, I wonder if he is not setting us up to do something similar to what he is currently doing in Belliste, have us lead lengthy invasion on our own, with only the troops we personally count amongst our personal guards…" tapping the hilt of his blade as he walked behind Yuolrt.

The druid ran one hand under a large leaf, a big drop of water trickling down.

"So, you figured that in this case, you and your troops should know how to spread undead fauna on your own? In case you have to remain for long periods and create a suitable environment to maintain an advantage? It is true that unlike Sir Loimos, you are not one to negotiate anything, any invasion from you would be fully confrontational" Yuolrt spoke like she was going to laugh.

"Our cultivars are selected and crafted through many careful botanical techniques, but we also make use of nature energy, take mana and other energies into account and such as well, and since we the druids are the only ones cultivating and growing them, we always make it so the manipulation of nature and our careful methods are integrated into the process through the uses of special arts, meaning that to achieve our results, one needs to be a druid from our circle…" she explained, probing the soil, checking for its density, if it was hydrated as well as it should.

"...But we can also produce seeds that would only need to be put into the earth, it shouldn’t be too difficult with the new recruits, I had not considered that General Loimos would have ways to nurture naturally spawned undeads into such specific directions" indeed, to all, an undead’s talent and capabilities should be random and different for each, but the champion had discovered ways to sort of mass produce very specific types of warriors.

This even included druids, a real treasure trove for Yuolrt, undeads with a connection to nature were rare, or at least, they used to be.

"That would be great, but don’t compromise your main activities for this, alright?" Ourlon wouldn’t want to impede on another minor lord too much with his demands.

"Don’t you worry about this, it’s a good exercise anyways, you are right that even with the new recruits, we won’t be everywhere, but our plants must bloom all over our territories!"

"Oh, speaking of this, let me show you our Tochian-themed greenhouse, you’ll tell me what trees and such you would prefer having at hand first" beckoning Ourlon to follow her, basically pulling him along.

"You’ll see, we recreated the cherry blossoms, the pink is outstanding"
