"Phantom Rebirth: The Last White Raven’s Path to the Ultimate Assassin"

Chapter 269: The Forbidden Creation – Part Two

The creature’s violent explosion had only been the first wave of its final, destructive attempt. As the last of its body disintegrated into swirling dark energy, Seraphis staggered back, narrowly avoiding the scattered remnants. The forest was eerily quiet now, save for the distant rustling of leaves.

But the silence didn’t last long.

From the shattered remnants of the creature’s body, the dark energy began to gather once more, like the swirling smoke of a broken storm. It formed into a massive vortex of shadows, its tendrils reaching out like grasping hands, clawing at the air and the ground. The creature was reforming—its rage and hatred driving its rebirth.

Seraphis’s eyes narrowed as she watched the energy condense and reassemble. The air crackled, the trees around her bending under the unnatural pull of the creature’s dark power. “Impossible,” she muttered to herself. “It’s not dead.”

With a deafening roar, the creature emerged from the dark vortex in a completely new form. It had become even larger, its body now covered in dark armor-like scales that absorbed the ambient light, making it nearly invisible in the shadow of the trees. The glowing red eyes burned brighter than before, flickering like dying embers. Its claws now resembled sharp obsidian blades, and its back was lined with jagged spines, crackling with dark magic.

“You’re still not done?” Seraphis said under her breath, frustration creeping into her voice. But despite the overwhelming power it exuded, she knew this battle was far from over. If anything, it had only intensified.

The creature’s eyes locked onto her with renewed malice. Without any warning, it moved with terrifying speed, lashing out with a swipe of its clawed hand. Seraphis had no choice but to leap to the side, narrowly avoiding the strike that could have cleaved her in two. The force of the attack sent a shockwave rippling through the air, causing trees to crack and splinter.

Seraphis hissed, her wings snapping open as she gained altitude, her body soaring upward to avoid another strike. The creature’s movements were faster this time, its rage giving it unnerving precision.

“You’re fast,” she said, her voice tight with tension. “But you’ve underestimated me.”

She sent a flurry of her playing cards toward the creature, each one shimmering with ethereal light. They cut through the air, like blades in a storm, but the creature was ready. With a single sweep of its arm, it deflected the cards, sending them spiraling into the trees. Seraphis grit her teeth. The creature had adapted, becoming more than just a mindless monster.

The beast let out another terrifying roar, its form trembling with the dark energy that surged through it. The ground shook violently as the creature summoned the forbidden magic deep within itself, channeling its power into an explosion of dark force. The earth cracked beneath its feet, and a wave of oppressive energy spread outward, warping the very space around them.

Seraphis grunted as the pressure of the magic bore down on her, the air heavy with the stench of decay and arcane power. But even though the ground beneath her feet felt like it was collapsing, she stood firm. She wasn’t going to let this creature win.

With a sharp gesture, she called forth another wave of cards, this time aiming for its eyes. The creature's glowing red eyes flared, and it twisted its head to avoid the attack. But the cards were relentless, following its every movement, tracking its every step.

The cards found their mark, plunging deep into the creature's armor-like scales. The impact created a series of sparks, and for a brief moment, the creature seemed to falter, letting out a pained hiss.

Seraphis wasted no time. She surged forward, her cards at the ready. She darted to the side, narrowly avoiding a swipe of the creature’s claws, then lunged in with a rapid series of attacks. Each card she threw hit its mark, chipping away at the creature’s dark armor.

But it wasn’t enough.

The creature let out an ear-splitting scream, its body trembling with rage. It lifted one massive claw and slammed it into the ground, sending a shockwave through the air. Seraphis was thrown backward, her wings struggling to catch the wind. She barely managed to stabilize herself in midair before crashing into the treetops.

Her heart pounded in her chest. She could feel the strain of the battle pulling at her, but she couldn’t afford to stop. The creature was getting stronger.

She quickly gathered her thoughts. She knew that the creature's power was fueled by the forbidden magic, and that magic was dangerous—unstable. There had to be a way to exploit that weakness, to turn the tide of the battle in her favor.

But she would need more than just speed and precision. She would need strategy.

Seraphis took a deep breath and steadied her mind. With a flick of her wrist, she summoned several cards at once, their edges gleaming in the moonlight. She took careful aim and sent them soaring toward the creature’s core, aiming for the space between its ribs where the dark magic seemed to pulse with the most energy.

The cards sank into the creature’s body with deadly precision, but to Seraphis’s dismay, the creature didn’t flinch. It snarled in response, its body rippling with dark energy as it moved to counterattack.

Seraphis cursed under her breath. She needed to hit harder, faster—she couldn’t let the creature’s constant adaptation outpace her.

The creature charged again, its massive form barreling through the trees, smashing everything in its path. Seraphis barely had time to react, her wings flaring out to dodge the oncoming attack. She ducked and weaved through the forest, keeping just out of reach of its claws. But the creature was relentless, its fury propelling it forward at an alarming pace.

Seraphis gritted her teeth. She was tired. Every movement felt heavier than the last. The creature was stronger, faster, more unpredictable. It was feeding on the very magic it had been forged with, growing more powerful with each strike, each roar.

She needed to end this soon.

With a burst of speed, Seraphis dove toward the creature, her body a blur of motion as she aimed directly for its heart. The creature swung its claws in an attempt to intercept her, but she was too fast. She darted to the side and rolled past its defenses, narrowly avoiding a fatal blow.

Her cards, however, were another story.

They had become extensions of her will, a blur of deadly energy that followed her every command. As she soared through the air, she summoned her cards, hurling them with deadly accuracy.

The cards punctured the creature’s heart, each one sinking deep into its dark core. The creature let out a blood-curdling scream as its body spasmed, its magic flaring out of control.

For a moment, Seraphis thought it was over. But the creature’s body trembled, and from the center of its chest, a swirling vortex of dark energy began to form once again. It was regenerating, more powerful than ever before.

"No..." Seraphis whispered, her voice barely audible over the roar of the magic. "I won't let you win."

She focused every last ounce of her will into the cards that hovered around her. Each card glowed with a faint, ethereal light, pulsing with the energy of her determination. She hurled them all forward in one final, explosive attack.

The cards flew in a flurry of metal, each one finding its mark with pinpoint accuracy. The creature's body was raked with cuts, its skin torn and shredded by the sharp edges. But it didn’t stop. The dark magic swirled around it, its form flickering like a mirage.

Seraphis pressed on, her body a blur of motion, her heart pounding in her chest. She wasn’t going to stop until this creature was finished.

Her cards struck again and again, each attack pushing the creature closer to its end. With a final, desperate cry, the creature's body exploded in a burst of dark energy, collapsing in on itself in a violent implosion. The shockwave sent Seraphis tumbling through the air, her wings struggling to maintain control.

As the darkness dissipated, the forest fell silent once again. The creature was no more.

But Seraphis knew that this victory was only temporary. The magic that had created it still lingered in the air, tainting everything it touched. And somewhere, deep in the shadows, there would be others waiting.

She steadied herself in the air, panting heavily, and surveyed the battlefield. The trees were shattered, the ground scorched, but she had won. For now.
