Chapter 375: The Voidfire Hunt
The salty wind carried the distant crash of waves against the jagged cliffs of Raven’s Perch. The fortress stood strong against the sea, its dark silhouette cutting through the mist. The flames from last night’s test still flickered across the water, a testament to the devastation of the newly forged Voidflame Arrows.
Seraphis stood upon the battlements, watching as her men worked. The arrow storms were fully stocked, and now the fortress was more prepared than ever. Yet, even as they armed themselves for future battles, a distant voice called out from the watchtower.
"Captain! There’s movement in the waters!"
Her gaze snapped toward the horizon. The ocean, vast and unyielding, churned unnaturally. Something massive lurked beneath the surface. Ripples turned to waves, and for a moment, the water itself seemed to shudder.
A deep, guttural growl resonated from below, vibrating through the wooden planks beneath her boots. The crew tensed, some reaching for their weapons while others scrambled to their positions at the arrow storms.
Seraphis grinned.
"Perfect timing. Let’s see what these Voidflame Arrows can really do."
The first sign of the beast came in the form of a shadow beneath the waves. It was enormous, twisting through the depths with terrifying grace. The surface of the water bulged, and then, with a thunderous splash, it rose.
A sea serpent.
Its scaly body was covered in deep-blue armor-like plating, each ridge lined with serrated edges. The beast’s head was massive, its yellow eyes burning like lanterns in the night. It let out a roar that sent birds scattering from the cliffs.
The creature loomed over the stronghold, its head rearing back as if challenging them. The sheer size of it was enough to make even the most seasoned warriors pause.
Seraphis, however, was not afraid.
"Ready the arrow storms!" she commanded, her voice cutting through the wind.
The soldiers scrambled into position, hands steady as they aimed toward the serpent.
The beast hissed, its forked tongue flickering before it lunged, its gaping maw aimed at the stronghold.
"Fire!"
The first volley was unleashed.
Arrows sliced through the air, each one carrying the eerie glow of Voidflame. The serpent barely had time to react before the projectiles struck.
The moment the arrows made contact, the Voidflame exploded across its scales. Unlike ordinary fire, this flame did not simply burn—it consumed.
The serpent thrashed violently, its roars turning into ear-piercing shrieks as the black flames spread across its body. The Voidflame clung to the beast like an insatiable parasite, devouring flesh and scale alike.
Yet, despite its agony, the sea serpent was not defenseless.
With a powerful twist of its body, the beast swung its massive tail toward the walls.
"Brace for impact!" Seraphis shouted.
The serpent’s tail struck the fortress like a battering ram, sending shockwaves through the stone walls. Soldiers stumbled, gripping onto anything they could to keep from falling. The impact cracked the battlements, sending loose debris plummeting into the sea below.
Seraphis barely managed to hold her footing. She gritted her teeth, eyes locked on the thrashing serpent. The Voidflame continued to burn, but the creature was still fighting.
"Reload! Aim for the eyes this time!" she ordered.
Her crew obeyed with practiced precision. Another volley of Voidflame Arrows was loaded into the arrow storms.
The serpent reared back, its throat glowing with an ominous blue light.
"It’s about to attack!" one of the soldiers shouted.
Seraphis didn’t hesitate.
"Fire! Now!"
A second volley was unleashed.
This time, the arrows found their mark—piercing deep into the serpent’s glowing eyes. The Voidflame erupted, consuming the beast’s vision in a torrent of black fire.
The sea serpent let out an earth-shattering roar, its entire body convulsing as it smashed against the water’s surface.
Tidal waves crashed against the cliffs. The fortress trembled. The sky was filled with the sound of the monster’s agony.
And yet—it still lived.
Blinded, burning, and enraged, the sea serpent began to retaliate.
This battle was far from over.
What do you think?
