Chapter 478
Chapter 478
The next morning, bright sunlight streamed into the room through the window.
Naoki was suddenly awakened by a phone call.
Drowsily, he opened his eyes and glanced at the screen. Seeing the caller’s name, he immediately snapped to attention.
Mewtwo?
Why would Mewtwo be calling him now?
Naoki sat up and answered the call.
The next moment, Mewtwo’s face appeared on the screen.
A deep voice came through. “A Pokémon is coming.”
“What?” Naoki said, still slightly groggy.
Then Mewtwo turned the camera around.
Before Naoki could process what was happening, the screen showed a noble and elegant Pokémon with shimmering, multicolored wings perched on a branch of the World Tree, surveying the Pokémon Guild below.
It was Ho-Oh.
Naoki’s jaw dropped. Ho-Oh? What was it doing here?
Could it be that, like Rayquaza, Ho-Oh had been drawn by the World Tree’s energy?
Mewtwo’s voice broke the silence. “It appears it wishes to stay and is asking for permission. I leave this matter to you.”
Naoki paused, still half-asleep. “Huh…”
After a long moment, he rubbed his eyes and muttered, “Okay, I’ll go take a look.”
“Raao?”
The sound came from nearby. Koraidon, still curled up, opened one eye.
“Come on, we’ve got work to do,” Naoki said, grabbing his clothes and getting ready quickly.
“Raaooo~”
Koraidon stretched, yawned widely, and then happily followed Naoki out of the room.
The ranch was unusually quiet; it seemed everyone had stayed up too late the previous night and was now enjoying a rare morning nap.
Only Calyrex was up early, lounging on the sofa and casually scrolling through its Rotom phone.
“Naoki? Where are you off to in such a rush?” Calyrex asked.
“Another legendary Pokémon has shown up at the World Tree. I’m heading over to see what’s going on,” Naoki replied.
His words sparked a memory. Calyrex had once foretold that the World Tree would rise into the sky and Ho-Oh would be perched atop it. It seemed that the prediction was now coming true.
Calyrex wasn’t surprised by this turn of events. The World Tree’s immense energy was a magnet for Pokémon. Even powerful legends couldn’t resist its allure.
Still, Calyrex preferred the quiet life at Naoki’s ranch over the grandeur of the World Tree. With Naoki, it had found companionship that made the world a less lonely place.
Naoki stepped outside, climbed onto Koraidon, and took to the skies. They soared through the clouds, heading toward the World Tree.
The World Tree floated in a remote area just below Rayquaza’s ozone layer. It was a place with no regular air traffic or human activity. Naoki had no fear of being discovered.
Even if someone managed to find the area, Mewtwo’s psychic barriers ensured their safety. The space-distorting field not only kept the World Tree hidden but also subtly guided trespassers away, leaving them wandering until they unknowingly veered off course.
Naoki, however, had no such issues. As soon as he entered the vicinity, Mewtwo’s psychic energy transported him directly onto the floating island.
Ascending to the World Tree’s upper levels, Naoki arrived just as Mewtwo hovered nearby, its gaze fixed on Ho-Oh.
Ho-Oh was perched gracefully on a branch, watching the Pokémon below as they bustled about. Some carried fruit from the orchards to storage, others prepared fresh sushi in little shops to share with the community.
Noticing something, Ho-Oh turned its head toward the newcomers.
Naoki stepped forward, Koraidon by his side. He couldn’t help but think that Mewtwo looked more and more like a stern, floating security guard.
Taking a breath, Naoki greeted the legendary Pokémon with a smile. “Hello, Ho-Oh.”
Naoki looked at Ho-Oh and greeted it politely.
“Do you know me?” Ho-Oh asked, tilting its head curiously.
“Mew and Teddiursa have mentioned you before,” Naoki explained with a warm smile.
At this, Ho-Oh nodded in understanding. “Ah, so you are the one they spoke of.”
Naoki shook his head lightly. “No, I’m not their trainer—just the one who handles the logistics for their team’s adventures.”
Though Ho-Oh didn’t quite grasp what “logistics” meant, it gathered from its conversation with Mewtwo that this human was the guardian of the World Tree.
Ho-Oh glanced up at the towering tree, a spark of admiration lighting its eyes. Then, with a dignified air, it spoke. “This place is far more beautiful than any I’ve known. If possible, can I stay here? In return, I can help you to the best of my ability."
The legendary Pokémon Ho-Oh had requested a home at the World Tree. Naoki knew that agreeing would not only ensure Ho-Oh’s gratitude but also strengthen the tree’s legendary guardianship. Refusing, however, might cause Ho-Oh to leave and diminish its favor toward him.
Naoki’s mind turned briefly to the possibility that, if Ho-Oh stayed, perhaps its loyal companions—Entei, Suicune, and Raikou—might also arrive in the future. He thought of the majestic mane of Entei, Suicune’s pure elegance, and Raikou’s striking presence. The idea of these noble Pokémon calling the World Tree home brought a smile to his face.
He looked up at Ho-Oh and said sincerely, “No need to offer anything in return. Just protect this tree and the Pokémon who live here. That’s all I ask.”
He imagined the potential of Ho-Oh’s sacred ash being freely available through the guild’s shop, a safeguard for Pokémon who might face life-threatening challenges.
Ho-Oh seemed momentarily surprised. “No other demands? Just that I protect this place and its inhabitants?”
Ho-Oh gazed at Naoki with bright, discerning eyes. In this human, it saw genuine kindness, a deep love for peace, Pokémon, and all life. The sight of such a pure heart moved Ho-Oh.
“This person may truly be worthy of the title of Rainbow Hero,” Ho-Oh thought silently.
Then it inclined its noble head. “Very well. I accept.”
Naoki smiled. “Then welcome to your new home.”
Ho-Oh spread its wings and let out a clear, resonant cry. From this moment, it became an official resident of the World Tree.
Now, with both Ho-Oh and Rayquaza among its protectors, the World Tree had gained extraordinary strength. Rayquaza and Ho-Oh watched over the tree from its highest branches, Mewtwo maintained order, and Giratina guarded the shadows beneath.
But something occurred to Naoki. If Rayquaza and Ho-Oh were drawn to the World Tree’s aura when it matured, could there be other legendary Pokémon sensing it as well?
...
Meanwhile, far away in the Hoenn region’s Weather Research Institute, a team of researchers continued monitoring the movements of Groudon and Kyogre.
On the satellite map, two icons moved steadily—one across land, the other through the ocean. Groudon was still traversing the sea between Hoenn and Unova. Kyogre, however, had passed Unova and was heading further out.
Their earlier theories unraveled before their eyes.
“What’s happening? I thought Unova was their destination!” one researcher exclaimed.
“No… look at Kyogre’s trajectory,” another said, his voice rising. “It’s heading toward Paldea.”
“Paldea?” The words rippled through the room.
The distant region lay on the opposite side of the planet. But what could possibly be there that would compel the ancient Pokémon to travel such an immense distance?
In the heavy silence that followed, a senior official finally spoke. “Contact the Paldea League immediately!”
Before the assistant could dial the Paldea League’s number, one of the researchers suddenly let out a startled cry.
“Kyogre is gone!”
The entire room turned toward the source of the exclamation.
“What happened?!” a senior official demanded.
“I’m not sure! The satellite feed showed Kyogre leaving the ocean, flying into the air, and then vanishing into thin air!” the researcher stammered.
“How… is that possible…” someone murmured in disbelief.
Could it be that Kyogre had hidden psychic abilities, allowing it to teleport to another location?
...
On the World Tree, Naoki was deep in conversation with Ho-Oh about the World Tree’s unique energy when he noticed Mewtwo, standing nearby, suddenly grow tense.
Mewtwo’s gaze snapped upward, and its sharp, telepathic voice cut through the peaceful chatter.
“Something is coming.”
Naoki and Ho-Oh both turned their attention forward. The space in front of them shimmered, distorted by a powerful force. Moments later, a massive Pokémon—resembling a whale—emerged through the rift.
It was Kyogre.
The great sea Pokémon opened its jaws, letting out a deep, resonant cry. Its glowing eyes locked onto the towering World Tree.
This was it. This was the source of the overwhelming natural energy it had been sensing. If it could settle here, it might finally regain its full power. And if that happened, Groudon would no longer stand a chance.
Kyogre’s excitement surged as it moved forward, eager to claim its new sanctuary. But before it could find a place to rest, a formidable group of figures appeared.
First was a shiny-black Rayquaza, its coiled form exuding dominance over the skies.
Beside it stood Ho-Oh, regal and radiant, with its multicolored plumage catching the sunlight.
Behind them hovered Mewtwo, a being of raw psychic might, its tail flicking in controlled anticipation. And finally, Giratina emerged, its crimson body and feral glare radiating menace.
The four Pokémon confronted Kyogre, forming an imposing wall. For a moment, Kyogre simply floated in place, its massive fins still.
A single thought dominated its mind: What… is going on?
And then it spotted a familiar scent among the group. The human who had disrupted its clash with Groudon back in Hoenn.
Kyogre’s eyes widened, its surprise obvious even on its colossal face. It hadn’t expected to encounter that meddlesome human here of all places.
A heavy realization settled over Kyogre. It was powerful, yes, but even it couldn’t take on four legendary Pokémon at once. The odds were entirely against it.
'What do I do now?' Kyogre’s mind raced for a solution.
At that moment, Naoki stepped forward, his voice calm but firm.
“Do you want to live in this tree too?”
Kyogre hesitated, its gaze shifting between Rayquaza and the other Pokémon, then finally admitted, “Yes.”
“Sure, you can stay here,” Naoki replied, his voice calm but firm.
If Kyogre chose to settle within the World Tree, it could live on the same level as Dragonite Island. With Kyogre at its core, the area could be transformed into a marine paradise—a vibrant Sea of Origin that would serve as a sanctuary for Water-type Pokémon.
Kyogre’s eyes widened in astonishment.
Could it really be this simple? No battles, no territorial disputes—just an invitation to move in peacefully?
Naoki continued, “But there are a few conditions. If you’re willing to agree, Rayquaza and I will welcome you to the World Tree.”
Kyogre turned its full attention toward Naoki. “What are these conditions?”
“First,” Naoki began, “you cannot harm any Pokémon on the World Tree.”
Kyogre tilted its head. It was, after all, a benevolent creator of the seas. In its long life, it had never intentionally harmed the Pokémon that thrived within the oceans it had formed.
“Agreed,” Kyogre rumbled without hesitation.
Naoki nodded and posed another question. “Can you sense where Groudon is right now?”
Kyogre paused, considering the faint signature it felt. “It’s coming this way,” it answered.
Naoki hummed thoughtfully. “As I thought.”
If Groudon were to join the World Tree as well, the resulting balance could create a distinct ecological zone—one perfect for Ground, Rock, and Fire-types. But therein lay the potential for conflict. Groudon and Kyogre were eternal rivals, destined to clash whenever they met. Such a battle would surely disrupt the tranquility of the World Tree and put its residents in danger.
“That brings me to the second, and most important, condition,” Naoki said, his tone growing serious. “If Groudon decides to live on the World Tree, you must not fight.”
He met Kyogre’s gaze, his voice steady. “I’ll have Rayquaza and Mewtwo oversee things. If you engage in any battles, you’ll be expelled and never allowed to return.”
Kyogre stared at Naoki, the words sinking in deeply. It could feel the overwhelming natural energy radiating from the World Tree. This was a chance to reclaim its strength and remain in a place of unmatched serenity. Slowly, it forced down its inherent instincts and replied firmly, “Fine! As long as Groudon doesn’t start anything.”
Naoki nodded. “Good. Then we’re agreed.”
With that settled, Naoki gestured for Mewtwo to escort Kyogre to the lower level, where Dragonite Island is located. Naoki took out his phone, checking the current location of Groudon.
Meanwhile, far away in the Unova region, a bustling scene was unfolding at the port city. Trainers from all around had gathered along the docks, excitement and curiosity buzzing through the crowd.
“Did you hear? Groudon—the Groudon from Hoenn—is heading toward Unova!” one trainer exclaimed, his voice brimming with awe.
“Unbelievable! I’ve never seen a Legendary Pokémon in my life!” another chimed in.
“Is it really close?” someone else asked.
“The latest report says it should be here any minute,” came the reply.
Just then, a massive silhouette appeared on the horizon, slowly approaching from the sea.
“It’s here!”
As Groudon’s massive form moved steadily across the horizon, some people voiced their fears. “Do you think it will attack us?” someone whispered nervously.
Before anyone could answer, the wailing sound of sirens erupted around city’s port. Local Officer Jenny rushed in with a team of officers, urging the gathered crowd to evacuate the area immediately.
“Everyone, get out of here!” she shouted. “It’s not safe to stay here!”
Her fellow officers quickly worked to set up barriers and push back the onlookers. Meanwhile, Alder, the Unova region’s Champion, arrived with The Elite Four members in tow. They crossed their arms as they stared at the distant figure of Groudon, their expressions a mixture of awe and apprehension.
“Is that really Groudon?” one of the Elite Four murmured.
“It sure looks like it,” Alder said grimly. “We need to be ready. This thing’s power far surpasses anything we’re used to facing.”
The group immediately began preparing for battle, each trainer checking their Pokémon and strategizing as Groudon’s colossal figure grew closer.
Time seemed to stretch as Groudon’s enormous bulk lumbered toward the shore. Yet, to everyone’s surprise, it didn’t stop at the port. Instead, Groudon simply bypassed the city altogether, continuing on its way without showing any aggression.
Alder and the others stood frozen in disbelief.
“It’s… not attacking?” one of them asked.
“It doesn’t look that way,” Alder said cautiously. “What’s its target, then?”
No one had an answer, but the tension in the air eased slightly. Alder allowed himself a small smile. “Well, at least it didn’t come ashore. If it had caused the kind of chaos we saw in Hoenn, it could’ve been catastrophic.”
The others nodded in agreement, their initial worry shifting to relief. They stayed there a while longer, watching Groudon’s hulking form fade into the distance.
As Groudon moved further and further from Unova, its journey became a spectacle. Reporters and daring trainers followed it relentlessly, capturing photos and streaming live footage. Each update spread like wildfire across the internet, captivating people around the world.
“Where is it going?” was the question on everyone’s mind. Even Professor Oak, ever-curious about rare Pokémon, took to the skies in a helicopter, hoping to get a closer look at Groudon’s mysterious trek.
As Groudon crossed region after region, the constant updates and livestreams drew massive online attention. Days passed, and then, unexpectedly, Groudon stopped.
In a scene broadcast live to millions, Groudon stood motionless in the middle of the ocean. It tilted its head back, staring intently at the sky. Waves surged around its feet, but it didn’t move an inch, fixated on the blue expanse above.
“What’s it looking at?” someone in the stream’s chat asked.
“Maybe it’s pondering life,” another joked.
“Wow, I didn’t know Groudon had a philosopher’s soul!” came one lighthearted comment.
But not everyone saw the humor. Observant viewers noticed something unusual: a flicker of anxiety in Groudon’s expression. Its massive, formidable face occasionally tightened, as if wrestling with some unknown problem. At times, it even appeared… helpless.
And then, suddenly, Groudon’s mood shifted. It roared in frustration, lashing out at the planes and drones filming its every move. With a powerful sweep of its massive claws, it scattered the airborne intruders, some narrowly escaping, others spiraling out of control.
Once the skies were cleared, Groudon’s roar subsided. It returned to its previous posture, gazing upward at the endless blue above.
What do you think?
