Chapter 438: Ice Vulpix’s First Fight

Terrance has a strong aptitude for breeding; otherwise, he wouldn’t have been able to complete most of the theoretical knowledge required for a Junior Breeder through just four years of self-study.

Speaking of which, this could also be considered one of Terrance’s hobbies. In his previous life, Terrance hated foreign language course the most, while his favorite subjects were biology and chemistry. In some ways, breeding knowledge aligned well with this preference.

Breeding was a kind of enjoyment.

So, during the period when Master Victor was teaching him how to take care of Ice Vulpix, Terrance learned very quickly—extremely quickly. He was even faster than when Master Victor had taught him how to care for the newborn Swablu, mainly because Terrance now already had a foundation close to that of an Intermediate Breeder.

A few days after Ice Vulpix hatched…

Terrance was preparing food for Ice Vulpix on Mount Lanakila, while Ice Vulpix lay on his shoulder, yawning cutely, looking as if none of this concerned it.

This little guy…. Even when Swablu was born, it didn’t receive such good treatment, with all sorts of high-quality food and nutritional supplements during the learning process, making everything convenient for Ice Vulpix.

Swablu had started with simple battles and training not long after its birth. As for Ice Vulpix, Terrance had been busy learning how to prepare food and nutritional supplements, which delayed his attention to it for a while. However, seeing Ice Vulpix growing lazier and lazier, even curling up into a ball on his shoulder, Terrance felt it was time to make some changes.

Although it was normal for newborn creatures to be a little lazy, if it became a habit, it would be difficult to correct later.

“Powder Snow, Tail Whip, Ice Shard…” With only these three moves, it wouldn’t be easy to choose an opponent.

As for training, Terrance felt that there wasn’t much point for now. Ice Vulpix knew too few moves, the training equipment was lacking, and Terrance wasn’t yet fully familiar with Ice Vulpix’s stats. There was no need to plan its path too early.

It would be best if it could be like Growlithe—letting it display its natural instincts first and then having Terrance guide it. That would be more meaningful.

“Shall we go find a Trainer for a battle?”

Rubbing the fluffy ears of the little Vulpix, Terrance felt a cool sensation from his fingertips. It wasn’t just the ears—its entire body emitted a chill, making Terrance want to leave the snowy mountain and return to Hoenn.

Fallarbor Town had a relatively warm climate. Hugging Ice Vulpix in that place would definitely feel very comfortable.

After informing Master Victor, Terrance began heading down the mountain. Trainers who came to Mount Lanakila rarely lingered at the summit; most of them stayed lower down. If Terrance wanted to find an opponent, he wouldn’t find one at the top.

Even if he could find one, they would usually be fairly strong Trainers—otherwise, they wouldn’t have the confidence to climb to the summit on their own.

Like taking a stroll, Terrance accompanied the little Vulpix as they made their way down. While walking, he recalled Vulpix’s moves. With only three moves, it would be best to pick an opponent who was either a rookie Trainer or a casual Trainer—otherwise, Vulpix wouldn’t be able to handle it. ŔÂ₦ꝋ𝐛Êš

Terrance wanted to find some wild Pokémon, but it seemed that there were no suitable opponents for Ice Vulpix on Mount Lanakila.

If only this were Mt. Chimney—Wurmple and Magikarp would be perfect experience providers.

“I choose you!”@@novelbin@@

After wandering for a long time, Terrance’s eyes lit up.

The girl holding a Rowlet looked just like a newbie Trainer.

Her youthful face, along with the unfamiliarity she showed toward the outside world while following her companions, suggested that she had only recently started her journey as a Trainer.

“Excuse me, are you a Trainer? Would you be interested in a battle?” Terrance walked up to the ponytailed girl and asked.

He rarely took the initiative to invite others to battle… It should….be like this, right?

“M-Me?” The girl, suddenly spoken to, nervously pointed at herself and said, “I guess I’m a Trainer… but… battling and all…”

“Tana, this is a great opportunity! Haven’t you always wanted to battle together with Rowlet?” The two companions in front of the girl saw someone issuing a challenge, glanced at Terrance and the Ice Vulpix on his shoulder, and spoke.

Terrance also looked quite like a rookie, so the two of them battling each other seemed like a perfect match.

“But… are you going to use that Vulpix?” Tana looked up and asked.

“Ah, yes, I plan to have this Vulpix battle. It will be its first time fighting as well,” Terrance replied.

“Rowlet is a Grass- and Flying-type, while Vulpix is an Ice-type… There’s no way I can win this battle.” Tana fiddled with her fingers before quickly lowering her head again.

“……” Terrance.

“Uh…” Terrance felt rather awkward, unsure of what to say.

Should he praise this girl for her solid grasp of basic knowledge, or…

“Type? Even though Rowlet has a disadvantage in type, it’s not completely without a chance to win. Rowlet can fly, which is an advantage in itself,” one of her companions reasoned earnestly, seemingly trying to help her overcome her hesitation and take a step toward becoming a true Trainer.

And so, under the continuous encouragement of her two companions, the girl finally gathered her courage.

“Tana, my name is Tana, and this is my friend, Rowlet. Please take care of us.”

“I’m Terrance. The Pokémon I’m sending out is this little one.” Terrance signaled to Ice Vulpix that it was time to battle.

“Woo~~” However, Ice Vulpix still looked quite unwilling.

The battle was a one-on-one match, with Tana’s two companions voluntarily taking on the role of referees.

Rowlet vs Vulpix, the battle begins!

“Vulpix, use Powder Snow!” Terrance immediately issued his command without hesitation.

“Quick, use Leafage!” Seeing Vulpix blow out Powder Snow from the ground, Tana hurriedly gave her order.

Rowlet’s round body flew through the air, flapping its wings as green Leafage was carried by the wind, colliding with Powder Snow.

“Use Ice Shard,” Terrance continued.

Although Vulpix had never been in battle before, its reaction speed was incredibly fast. Upon hearing Terrance’s command, it immediately followed up with the move!

In the next moment, Ice Vulpix swung its tail, forming several chunks of ice and quickly hurling them toward Rowlet.

“Ah! Dodge it quickly!” Tana cried out in alarm.

Vulpix’s ice chunks flew at high speed. Right after Leafage and Powder Snow canceled each other out, it immediately followed up with another move, acting nothing like a newborn Pokémon.

“~” Rowlet panicked. Seeing the ice chunks coming its way, it turned around and tried to run.

“……” Terrance.

Tana’s two companions smacked their heads. Rowlet, you fool! Who turns their back and runs to dodge an attack?

Sure enough, Rowlet wasn’t fast enough to outrun the incoming ice chunks. Two chunks of ice struck it head-on, and the silly bird was knocked out cold.

Seeing that it had defeated its opponent, the little Vulpix, who had never experienced battle before, instantly jumped around in excitement. It leaped onto Terrance’s shoulder, seemingly asking for praise.

“Nicely done,” Terrance said with a smile.
