Chapter 447: Dream Weapon, God of Nightmares
“Darkrai, even when conscious, was unable to control its abilities due to that weapon, causing others to fall into endless nightmares. After being completely devoured by the weapon, its condition worsened.”
“Devoured?” Terrance said.
“On Nightmare Island, our actions have always been under strict surveillance. Under normal circumstances, even after another ten years, we would never be able to escape their control.”
“However, because I awakened Aura power, I gained the ability to communicate with Pokémon through Telepathy, as well as the ability to sense the environment of the entire island. Only then was I able to move beyond the range of surveillance.”
“But completely eliminating Team Nightmare’s forces on Nightmare Island was beyond my personal strength. As for others, I could not trust them either, as that would risk exposing that I have awakened Aura power. However, I was able to sense Darkrai’s emotions and successfully communicate with it.”
“Even though we were far apart, we could still converse. It was precisely because Darkrai was willing to risk being devoured that I was able to take the opportunity to destroy Team Nightmare’s forces on the island by working together with Lucario.”
“However, after that incident, Darkrai has completely lost its sanity. Now, it is only relying on the last remnants of its willpower to restrain itself from rushing out of Nightmare Island.”
“In Darkrai’s current state, if it completely loses sanity and goes out of control, the impact on adults and Pokémon might not be significant. But if a baby, whose brain is still developing, is affected by its dream ability, the consequences would be irreversibly dire.”
Terrance pondered for a moment before speaking, “You want to… invite me to help stop Darkrai?”
“Something like that.”“But it’s not about stopping it—it’s about helping it break free from the weapon’s control. Aerodactyl, which battled Altaria, wouldn’t last more than a few rounds against Darkrai. Even Lucario, who is far stronger than Aerodactyl and has a type advantage, still isn’t a match for Darkrai.”
“Of course, if we only wanted to rely on brute force, there would be no need to seek your cooperation. There are many other Trainers we could choose from. However, that wouldn’t give us a high chance of helping Darkrai break free from its control.”
Terrance asked, “Then what can Altaria do to help you?”
“After I destroyed Team Nightmare, I obtained Altaria’s Mega Stone and the Key Stone from them. They were one of the items Team Nightmare was studying. However, their purpose in studying these items was not for Mega Evolution, but to refine and control the power of the two stones to turn them into a weapon to suppress Darkrai.”
“The most crucial part is the Mega Bracelet outside the Key Stone. According to the research data I obtained, the bracelet’s primary function is to gather an energy that can suppress the effects of the dream weapon.”
“This is the reason we are searching for a Trainer with Altaria. The records state that this key to suppressing the dream weapon is not a completed product, and we have not obtained the method to use it. However, from this, we have gained an insight.”
“Since they chose Altaria’s evolutionary stone, does that mean it has something to do with the difference between Altaria and Mega Altaria?”
“Fairy energy—this was an important clue recorded in Team Nightmare’s research data. I suspect that the energy used to suppress and control the dream weapon is Fairy-type energy.”
“Just like how most Pokémon’s type change after evolution, if the Mega Evolution device can alter or draw out a completely new type from Altaria, then Mega Altaria’s type is self-explanatory. Of course, their research has already confirmed Mega Altaria’s type as Dragon and Fairy—I am simply stating the conclusion.”
Fairy-type, Mega Altaria… Combined with the fact that Altaria can learn moves like Moonblast, Terrance felt a shock in his heart.
Team Nightmare’s dream weapon was an evil device modeled after Darkrai. It might involve Darkness energy, and perhaps Fairy energy was one of the key elements Team Nightmare developed to control the dream weapon. However, before the research was completed, the entire organization was destroyed. Now, with only an unfinished test product in their hands, aside from collecting Fairy energy through a real Altaria’s Mega Evolution, Albus and the others have yet to find a method to directly activate the bracelet switch that can control the dream weapon.
Their plan was to use the Fairy energy produced by Altaria’s Mega Evolution, in combination with this mysterious experimental bracelet, to suppress the dream weapon on Darkrai.
At this point, Terrance finally understood the two people’s origins and the whole chain of events.
However, he still couldn’t completely suppress his complicated emotions. The most he had ever dealt with were poaching organizations, and he found it difficult to accept what Team Nightmare had done.
From Terrance’s perspective, the existence of poachers was at least somewhat excusable or even understandable. But to harm your fellow humans just to achieve some kind of world control… That was pure madness and inhuman.
“Has Team Nightmare been completely wiped out?” Terrance asked.
“Yeah,” Albus said with a smile.
Terrance’s heart tensed. That answer had two possible meanings: either Team Nightmare had been brought to justice, or there were no survivors left.
He chose not to dwell on it further and instead said calmly, “When are we setting off?”
“After I help you resolve this incident, the Mega Stone and Mega Bracelet will be mine, correct?”
“I’m glad to see you keeping your word. As for the timing—of course, as soon as possible. Darkrai could completely lose its sanity at any moment. And while we’ve destroyed Team Nightmare’s headquarters and their forces on Nightmare Island, an organization like that probably has an extensive network. I’m worried that some remnants may have escaped. If we delay too long, I won’t feel at ease.”
“Darkrai helped us break free from Team Nightmare’s control. No matter what… we have to save it.” Albus let out a deep sigh.
Although they had suffered greatly because of Darkrai, wasn’t Darkrai also a victim? After experiencing such brutal experiments and control, it still chose to trust them, to help them escape, and even risked being consumed by the dream weapon itself. Albus swore that no matter what, he would rescue Darkrai.
Terrance looked at Albus and Fujiki without saying a word.
If what they said was true, then their character… was still worthy of trust.
As for their past experiences, Terrance didn’t want to dwell on them too much.
“Want to have a battle? Even if it’s just three minutes, it should be enough to let me experience Mega Altaria’s strength!”
“I refuse.” Terrance shot him a glance. He had no intention of passing out in the wilderness during a battle.
Until he completely resolved the drawbacks of Mega Evolution, he wouldn’t use it for extended periods, nor would he recklessly follow them to some Nightmare Island.
“Alright then. What is this method you mentioned to extend Mega Evolution’s duration? How long would it take you to prepare? After all, we don’t have much time.”
“I don’t know.” Terrance shook his head. He pointed to his head and said, “If it consumes mental and physical strength, then the solution is simple—strengthen both.”
“Enhancing psychic energy? How do you do that?” Albus was surprised.
Physical strength could be trained—but could psychic energy be trained as well?
Terrance grinned and said, “You have Aura power, so are you aware of the existence of psychic power?”
This was a hint that Master Victor had given Terrance yesterday—just as physical strength could be trained, psychic energy could also be trained. If Mega Evolution had side effects, then the solution was to reach a state where he could ignore them entirely. By obtaining training methods for psychic power, even if he couldn’t use psychic power himself, he could still refine his psychic energy through meditation.
