Chapter 373: Team Up
Chapter 373: Team Up
"As for what’s happening below, I’m not entirely sure either. I only arrived about ten minutes before you."
Since Freddie had introduced himself, Julian felt it was only fair to offer a half-truth in return. Of course, he wasn’t about to reveal that a Poison-type Ultimate treasure was about to emerge.
If the treasure was truly forming, it was still in the final stages of development—which explained why the Dowsing Machine hadn’t picked up any signals yet.
Freddie didn’t press the issue. Instead, he observed the ever-growing mass of Poison-type Pokémon below—now numbering over two hundred thousand—and said: "I know what’s going on."
Julian’s eyes narrowed slightly.
"For this many Poison-types to gather in one place—without fighting—there are only two possibilities. Either a Poison-type Ultimate treasure is about to emerge… or a Poison-type Mythical Pokémon is about to be born."
Julian was a little surprised that Freddie had reached the same conclusion.
"Looks like you already knew."
Freddie also noticed Julian’s lack of reaction and silently praised his composure. As expected of a Walker family descendant—even though Freddie had never shown hostility, Julian had remained on guard the entire time.
Now that the truth was out in the open, Julian saw no point in denying it.
"It’s likely an Ultimate treasure, a Mythical Pokémon seems less probable."
"A Poison-type Ultimate treasure, huh?"
Freddie muttered under his breath, even though he wasn’t a Poison-type specialist, he wouldn’t hesitate to fight for it.
Even if he couldn't use it, a treasure of that caliber could be exchanged for a fortune in resources—enough to fuel rapid growth for his team.
"Mr. Walker, how about we team up? We two aren't the only ones in this secret realm—other trainers are definitely on their way," Freddie offered.
"I’m only an early-stage Elite, and have only an Elite Dragonite, are you sure you want to team up with me?"
Julian raised an eyebrow, he knew he was strong among his peers, but in the eyes of veteran Elite trainers, he was still young.
"Mr. Walker, you underestimate yourself too much. You defeated my great-uncle—that alone is reason enough to work with you," Freddie chuckled.
"Gym Leader Fred?"
Connecting the dots, Julian asked subconsciously.
"Yes, he’s my great-uncle, my grandfather is his younger brother," Freddie nodded.
Julian had defeated Fred in a three-on-three battle, where the older Elite trainer had fought with his full strength, but Julian had still won, that victory had been a huge deal in their family.
At a later family gathering, Fred himself had said that Julian’s strength was comparable to veteran Elite trainers—not just to young Elites like Freddie, but to his own generation.
One could imagine how optimistic Gym Leader Fred was about Julian.
If it wasn't for the fact that their family had no suitable female members of the right age, they would have arranged a meeting with Julian right after the battle ended.
Still, with Frank being Julian’s teacher, their family already had an advantage over most others.
Hearing Freddie’s words, Julian took another look at him. Now that he thought about it, there was a resemblance to Frank in his brows and facial structure—enough for Julian to believe him, at least mostly.
"We can team up, but if we do get the Poison-type treasure, how do we split it?"
When interests aligned, even rivals could become temporary allies, but when it came time to divide the spoils, even fathers and sons—or husbands and wives—could turn against each other.
If Freddie wasn't related to Frank, Julian would have never considered working together.
"The Poison-type treasure is yours," Freddie said plainly.
"Then what do you want?" Julian raised an eyebrow.
If Freddie claimed he didn’t want anything, Julian would pretend to cooperate with him while keeping his guard fully up.
No one would risk their life for free, especially not in a situation this dangerous, anyone who said otherwise was lying.
"I’ve heard that the Walker family has a special potion that can enhance the potential of Green-grade Pokémon, and it’s supposed to be far superior to anything on the market, but rarely sold to outsiders," Freddie said.
Julian nodded.
That potion came from his system’s shop, he had given some to his father and grandfather, and it had helped his grandfather’s Metagross break through from Blue potential to Purple—allowing it to reach Champion-level.
This led to rumors that the Walker family had discovered a new method for boosting a Pokémon’s potential.
In this world, Pokémon with Cyan potential were extremely rare, while those with Green potential were common, but the gap between the two was huge.
As a result, potential-enhancing potions for Green-grade Pokémon on the market were insanely expensive—even though their success rate was incredibly low.
But even if it was low, there were still countless people buying.
After all, low still meant hope, even if the success rate was one in ten thousand, trainers would still gamble on it.
The Walkers had only ever sold fifteen of their special potion. Out of those, fourteen Pokémon successfully advanced to Cyan potential, all of them breaking through from pseudo-Elite peak to early Elite level.
The results had been nothing short of terrifying.
The moment the news got out, powerful families and even the Drakorian government had come knocking.
But with only fifteen potions sold, the Walkers had firmly controlled the market.
If it weren’t for the Walker family’s strength, the major powers would have already forced them to hand over the formula.
In fact, they were already making moves in the shadows.
Some of the Walkers’ key laboratories and pharmaceutical companies had been infiltrated by spies—agents planted by various powerful families, all looking for the secret formula.
Unfortunately for those spies, their efforts were destined to fail.
The Walkers had publicly stated that the potion’s ingredients were extremely precious and scarce, which naturally limited production.
Most major families believed this explanation. After all, with such astonishing effects, if the potion was cheap to make and had a high yield, it would completely defy logic.
Even within the Walker family, John and Jake had never questioned Julian about the potion’s origins, after all, everyone had their own secrets.
In fact, Jake had suspected something ever since Julian claimed that his Purple-potential Dratini was something he had just "picked up on the road."
From that moment, he knew his son had a massive secret, but instead of prying, the family had only one stance—they wouldn’t interfere.
As long as Julian didn’t bring trouble upon himself, they would never force him to explain anything. And if trouble did come, they would take care of it for him.
After pondering for a moment, Julian nodded: "Alright, how many potions do you want?"
Exchanging a few Cyan-quality enhancement potions for an Elite-level thug was a great trade—especially since he might obtain the Ultimate Poison-type treasure in the process.
Freddie originally planned to ask for two, but hearing Julian’s tone, he immediately changed his mind, stretched out his palm and said, "Five."
Julian stared at him. 'This guy really has a big appetite.'
Seeing that Julian didn't speak, Freddie felt a little embarrassed. 'Even if I asked for too much, you can still bargain! Why aren’t you saying anything?'
"Alright, but only if I actually get the Ultimate Poison-type treasure. If I don’t, you’ll only get three."
A guaranteed three potions was still more than the two he originally wanted.
Freddie immediately nodded: "Deal."
