Chapter 389: Poison Elite
The mother and daughter held each other tightly, offering mutual comfort. Julian watched as Duke lay motionless in the hospital bed, his Aura flickering like a candle in the wind.
It hadn’t been extinguished yet—because something within him acted like a protective barrier, shielding that fragile flame from the wind’s force.
But the barrier was weakening. Once it disappeared, the wind would snuff out the flame.
"Why did that intelligence officer betray us?" Julian asked curiously.
If it hadn’t been for that intelligence personnel, who had infiltrated Babath, feeding false intelligence to Duke, things would have never escalated to this point.
Any country selecting spies for foreign missions would be extremely cautious. The most important trait for such operatives was their loyalty.
Yet, a Drakorian intelligence officer had betrayed them.
Of course, there was also the possibility that his cover had been blown, and Babath had used him against them.
John's face darkened with both anger and helplessness as he replied—
"His daughter… she was ruined by a second-generation heir from a noble family. She couldn’t handle the trauma and took her own life."
"And that bastard still didn’t receive the punishment he deserved."
Julian fell silent, unsure of what to say.
It was a tragedy—true heroes shed both blood and tears.
Julian could understand why the intelligence officer did what he did.
Some heirs of wealthy, noble families were so spoiled and lawless that even a stray dog would avoid them.
If Julian ever encountered such a scum of a second-generation heir, he wouldn't hesitate to cripple him—permanently.
Just then, a series of hurried footsteps echoed through the hall, Julian looked up and immediately recognized the newcomer—
It was Brad, Drakoria’s current Poison Elite. It was even rumored that he was a descendent of the Poison King.
Despite holding the Elite title, Brad’s true combat strength was already at the pseudo-Champion level. In Drakoria, all 18 Elites were pseudo-Champion level.
Even the top 30 Elites in Drakoria’s rankings, all were pseudo-Champions—this, of course, included the 18 type specialists.
Brad, the Poison Elite, was ranked 15th on the Elite ranking. But when it came to using poison, he was undoubtedly the strongest in the entire nation. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have held the Poison Elite seat for 30 years straight.
He was already over seventy, his age showing in his features, but his spirit remained strong.
"You're finally here! Check on Duke immediately!" John urged.
Brad nodded without wasting words. He strode into the hospital room, sending out a Pokémon as he did so—

After sending out Drapion, Brad reached into his pocket and pulled out a small box. Inside, neatly arranged, were silver needles of varying lengths and sizes.
It was worth mentioning that Brad was not only a Poison-type Elite but also a renowned medical expert.
A few minutes later, Duke's body was already covered in silver needles. As the needles trembled slightly, Julian watched in shock as they gradually took on a faint purple hue.
This went on for an hour, and nearly a hundred silver needles slowly deepened in color, turning from light purple to a dark, almost liquid-like shade.
"Drapion, pull out the needles," Brad ordered.
By now, the needles were filled with deadly poison—one touch could cause severe poisoning. Only Drapion could safely remove them.
Following the precise order in which they were inserted, Drapion carefully extracted each needle one by one.
Then, to Julian’s surprise, Drapion began eating the needles—crunching them as if they were crispy snacks.
Poison-type Pokémon could enhance their own toxins by consuming poisonous substances. However, this only worked if the poison wasn’t significantly stronger than their own, or they could end up poisoning themselves.
And for Drapion, these lethal, blood-curdling poison-filled needles were an absolute delicacy.
But after consuming a third of the needles, Brad ordered Drapion to stop.
“Enough, any more and you won’t be able to handle it.”
Even though Drapion was pseudo-Champion, the poison in these needles belonged to a true Champion-level entity. Digesting too much at once would be too much for it to bear.
Brad took out a special container and, using tweezers, carefully collected the remaining poison-laced needles.
Just as he removed the final needle, something astonishing happened—
The faint purple hue on Duke's skin began to fade, slowly returning to its original color.
Seeing this, John burst into laughter, “I knew this old guy could do it! Hah! Maybe he really is a descendant of the Poison King!”
“I always thought he was just bragging.”
The change in Duke’s skin was obvious, and the mother and daughter pair also noticed it immediately.
"He’s recovering!"
Nicole’s mother hugged her tightly, repeatedly murmuring in disbelief.
Nicole’s face also lit up with joy.
But just as the mood lifted, Julian suddenly frowned and spoke up—
“Something’s not right.”
His words immediately shattered the moment of relief.
"My dear grandson, what do you see?" John asked hurriedly.
He knew Julian had unusual abilities—after all, his grandson could even summon a First-class Legendary and survive the experience. If Julian said something was wrong, then something was definitely wrong.
"His Aura… Champion Duke’s Aura hasn’t gotten stronger," Julian said solemnly.
Even if the technique Brad just used didn’t completely detoxify the poison, it should have at least expelled part of it.
No matter from which angle you looked at it, the other party’s Aura should have gradually strengthened.
But Julian didn’t feel that happening.
As if to confirm Julian’s words, just as he finished speaking, the color that had been slowly returning to normal on Duke’s skin suddenly turned purple again.
And this time, it was even darker than before.
At the same time, the medical equipment connected to Duke let out a sharp alarm.
Brad was naturally startled by this sight. After regaining his composure, he pulled out his silver needles once again. His hand blurred into afterimages as the needles pierced Duke’s acupuncture points like flashes of lightning.
However, the sliver needles turned purple at a speed visible to the naked eye and began to corrode.
Watching the silver needles on the back of Duke’s hand disintegrate and fall to the ground, causing wisps of green smoke to rise from the floor, it was clear how terrifyingly corrosive the poison was.
“Drapion, Acupressure.” Brad focused as he spoke.
Drapion responded with a cry, its sharp claws lightly tapping a dozen acupuncture points on Duke’s body.
As the move took effect, the purple hue covering Duke’s body slowly receded. It seemed like the Acupressure had worked.
Julian was quite impressed.
He hadn’t expected a move that was meant to enhance one's abilities to be used on a human like this.
This technique was truly something else.
