Chapter 402: Scyther
Hazel, who was pinned under the muscular man’s foot, struggled desperately, but it was futile. Her gaze remained fixed on the Nidoqueen lying in a pool of blood not far away.
Due to her struggle, combined with the aftermath of the battle, her clothes had become disheveled, exposing parts of her body.
Seeing her fair skin, delicate features, and especially the unyielding determination in her eyes, one of the lackeys couldn't help but swallow hard.
"Boss, it’d be a waste to kill this woman," he said, his eyes burning with desire. His thoughts were written all over his face.
But before he could say anything more, the muscular man gave him a harsh slap.
"Useless idiot! Can’t even control yourself? Hurry up and pack all these Scyther into Poké Balls!"
After slapping him, the man followed up with a kick.
The distress signal in the sky would last for half an hour. In that time, there was no guarantee that no one would show up. Moreover, the woman under his foot was a ranger—who knew if she had other ways to contact help?
The safest option was to quickly capture all the Scyther and leave immediately.
This area had a population of more than twenty Scyther, with the strongest among them being at the pseudo-Elite level.
As Poachers, people like him didn’t bother fighting Pokémon head-on. Instead, they used drugs to knock them all out.
In no time, all twenty-plus Scyther were sealed inside Poké Balls.
"Boss, it’s done!"
"We’re about to get rich!"
A lackey ran up to the muscular man, excitement written all over his face.
Scyther was a rare species, and it was considered one of the signature Bug-type Pokémon due to its strength.
After evolving with a Metal Coat, Scizor became a sleek and powerful Bug/Steel-type, even capable of Mega Evolution.
Alternatively, if evolved using a Black Augurite, it became Kleavor, a Bug/Rock-type. However, this evolution had yet to be officially discovered.
Each Scyther was worth around ten million on the market. There were twenty-five here, including one at the pseudo-Elite level.
Selling them all would easily bring in over three hundred million.
The muscular man increased the pressure under his foot, pushing half of Hazel’s face into the soft dirt.
"This is your last chance, woman. Are you joining us or not?"
As a ranger, she must know the locations of other protected Pokémon habitats. With her cooperation, capturing rare Pokémon in the future would be much easier.
Gritting her teeth, Hazel spat, "You will die a horrible death."
"Then you can die first."
The muscular man pulled out a pistol with a silencer and aimed it at Hazel’s head.
Hazel closed her eyes, quietly waiting for death to come.
One second, two seconds, three seconds—
More than ten seconds passed, yet she was still alive. Confused, she slowly opened her eyes.
With her head pinned under the man’s foot, she couldn't lift it, but she could see the other thugs standing nearby.
And they weren’t moving.
Every single one of them stood frozen in place, their eyes filled with terror, as if their bodies had been taken over by something.
One of them even had his foot raised mid-step.
No one in their right mind would hold their foot up like that unless they had completely lost control of their body.
Someone was here to save her.
That thought struck Hazel instantly.
At the same time, a stranger’s voice reached her ears.
"You've got some serious luck."
Julian walked over to Hazel, casually kicking the frozen muscular man aside before helping her up from the ground.
He couldn't help but feel a little envious—her luck was incredible.
If he had arrived just one second later, she would have been dead.
When would he ever get that kind of luck?
Floating beside Julian was Metagross, its psychic energy locking down the thugs and their Pokémon, leaving them completely immobile.
Most of Hazel’s clothes were in tatters from the earlier fight, and as Julian helped her up, he inevitably caught sight of something... unexpected.
But Hazel had no time to care about that. The moment she was on her feet, she dashed toward her critically wounded Nidoqueen.
A gaping, bloody hole had been blasted into Nidoqueen’s abdomen, exposing her still-moving organs, and the ground beneath her was soaked in blood.
Her breathing was weak—she was barely clinging to life.
But the moment she saw that her trainer was safe, a faint light returned to her dimming eyes.
"It’s going to be okay. You’ll be fine," Hazel whispered, frantically searching herself for any medicine.
But she had forgotten—her medical supplies were in her backpack, and that backpack had been thrown away during the fight.
And even if she had medicine, nothing short of a Revival Herb-infused potion would be able to save Nidoqueen in her current state.
"Nido..."
Nidoqueen let out a weak, comforting sound, as if using the last of her strength to reassure her trainer.
At this moment, her eyelids felt unbearably heavy.
She was so tired.
She just wanted to sleep.
Realizing what was happening, Hazel began to sob.
"Please, Nidoqueen… don’t go!"
"Relax, it won't die, Slowking Heal Pulse."
Julian’s voice rang out again. Then, without warning, he shoved Hazel aside. It was a rough push—so rough that she fell on the ground.
There was no other choice—if he didn’t pull her away, she would have kept blocking Nidoqueen’s mouth. And if Nidoqueen’s mouth was covered, how was Julian supposed to give her the medicine?
He shoved a system-purchased Potion into Nidoqueen’s mouth while Slowking channeled a Heal Pulse. The combined effects of both ensured that saving Nidoqueen’s life was absolutely not a problem.
Julian then applied additional medicine to her open wound.
A few minutes passed, the bleeding had stopped, and tiny granules of new flesh began forming over the wound. Nidoqueen’s breathing, which had been growing weaker by the second, finally stabilized.
Hazel stood beside Julian, her eyes locked onto Nidoqueen, afraid to make a sound that might disturb the treatment. It was only when she saw Nidoqueen’s condition improving that she slowly lowered the hand she had been using to cover her mouth.
Slowking continued using Heal Pulse for another ten minutes before Julian finally told it to stop.
"That should do it. The rest will need time to heal naturally. It’s best to take her to a hospital for further treatment," Julian said.
Nidoqueen’s injuries were severe. She could recover over time, but whether there would be any long-term consequences remained to be seen.
"Thank you, Thank you, Thank you so much!"
Overcome with emotion, Hazel didn't know how to express her gratitude. In the heat of the moment, she lunged forward and threw her arms around Julian—practically tackling him.
Caught off guard, Julian reacted on instinct.
He shoved her away-Hard.
Hazel flew back four or five meters, landing on the ground in stunned silence. Still dazed, she blinked up at him, completely baffled.
Julian: "I get that you’re grateful, but what the hell was that tackle for?"
Hazel: (⊙_⊙)???
