Pokemon: Reborn Rich Alternate Earth

Chapter 428: Award Presenter

The challenge was over, and Julian was already lying on the couch, playing Pokémon Glory with Celebi, while Slowking was in the kitchen preparing dinner.

Without Slowking carrying them, Julian and Celebi struggled terribly in the game, constantly getting flamed by their teammates.

Support Blastoise: “Trash solo laner, died twice in less than three minutes.”

Marksman Salamence: “A high-rank 50-star match, and I have to deal with a clown like you.”

Mage Alakazam: “F**k, does the jungler even know how to play?”

Julian was playing as a solo-lane Metagross, while Celebi was using a jungle Scizor.

The only reason they had reached this rank was because Slowking had carried them there. With Slowking absent, their true skill level was laid bare.

“Hey, Mage, are you blind? Their mage just roamed over, and you didn’t even call it out!”

Julian fired back using the voice-to-text feature.

Celebi, however, wasn’t as fortunate. Since it couldn’t speak human language, it had to type back whenever it got flamed.

Not only was its typing slow, but it often made mistakes. Every time it tried to respond, its avatar would stand still, making it an easy target. Eventually, it got surrounded and killed by the enemy team.

Salamence: “Report this jungler for AFK!”

Celebi was so furious it nearly smashed the phone on the floor.

It perfectly proved the saying: You never know who your teammates are—sometimes, they might not even be human.

In the backyard, Steelix was boasting proudly.

Its tale was basically: “The moment I showed up, the opponent instantly surrendered. You guys better be grateful you have me.”

Arcanine: “Wow, that’s amazing!”

Of course, only that gullible pup would fall for Steelix’s bragging.

Hearing Arcanine’s praise, Steelix looked even more smug. It glanced at Metagross as if to say, “You might not have as much clout as I do.”

However, Metagross was napping and didn’t even notice Steelix’s expression.

Up in the sky, a blood-red streak flashed by. A Bagon sat on the back of a Salamence, feeling the wind rush past its cheeks, absolutely thrilled.

Naturally, this Salamence was Jake’s.

Following closely behind was Dragonite.

Dragonite was feeling a bit jealous, convinced that the little brother it had just taken under its wing was being stolen away by Salamence.

Meanwhile, Lucario was busy lifting Aggron as part of its strength training. When it came to sheer determination, Lucario was definitely unmatched.

The next afternoon, Julian went to the Conference. It was a nostalgic visit—the place where he had once claimed victory and won the championship.

It was also the place where his journey as a professional trainer had officially begun.

Wearing a mask and sunglasses, Julian strolled around the shopping street near the venue. No one recognized him. Since he didn’t see anything particularly interesting, he left without buying anything.

Eventually, he made his way to the individual battle finals arena, just as the match had ended.

As the champion, Luke was raising his hands high, basking in the crowd’s cheers. Suddenly, a voice echoed in his mind.

“Hey, it’s Julian. Interested in coming to Imperial University? We’ve got great offers.”

Luke froze for a moment, instinctively glancing around. However, he didn’t see Julian and thought he might have imagined it.

“No need to look around—I’m up in the stands. So, what do you say? Interested in Imperial University? The conditions are negotiable.”

Julian had used his psychic powers to contact Luke directly, sparing himself the trouble of competing with the other university recruiters.

Back when he wasn’t an Elite, Julian had kept his psychic abilities hidden. But now that he was powerful enough to protect himself, there was no longer any need for secrecy.

“My goal is Shu University.”

Luke replied silently, he was surprised—he remembered Julian possessing Aura powers, but Aura didn’t have the ability to transmit messages directly into someone’s mind. Only Psychics could do that.

'That means…'

'Damn it! Why does he gets all the good stuff?!'

“Oh? Mind sharing why?” Julian asked, a bit curious.

“My girlfriend got into Shu last year, I want to be with her.”

Julian: 'Ah, so it’s for love.'

“You haven’t seen her in a year—are you sure she’s still your girlfriend?”

Luke: (⊙_⊙)?!

After ending the conversation with Luke, Julian wasn’t too disappointed. While it was unexpected, he could understand the decision. Imperial University was great, but it wasn’t the only option.

Since he failed to recruit Luke, Julian didn’t bother approaching the runner-up.

Just as he was about to leave, his phone rang—it was his dad calling.

“Hey, Dad. What’s up?”

“Son, are you still at the venue?”

“Yeah, I was just about to head out.”

“I’ve got something to tell you. The Lake City Trainer Association wants you to be the award presenter for today’s Yale Province High School League finals.”

“Me? The award presenter?”

Julian was a bit puzzled, had he already reached the level where he was qualified to be an award presenter?

“It wasn’t originally meant for you—it was supposed to be the Association President. But something came up for him at the last minute. Since you’re still in Lake City, they’re hoping you can take over.”

“According to the Lake City Trainer Association, the top young trainer of the country came from Lake City. You being the presenter would be highly meaningful.”

Julian was now the idol of most young trainers in Drakoria. In that sense, he was indeed a fitting choice for the role.

“Alright, sure.”

After thinking it over, Julian agreed. He didn’t have anything urgent to do afterward anyway.

“The awards ceremony starts at 9 PM at the main venue.”

“Got it,” Julian replied.

'It was only last year that I was competing here myself. And now, I’m back as an award presenter, what a fascinating change.'

After chatting with his dad for a bit longer, Julian hung up the phone.

He glanced at his watch—it was only a little past four, so he still had plenty of time to kill.

Most of the crowd had already dispersed, leaving the venue relatively empty.

“Excuse me… are you King Julian?”

A slightly shy female voice rang out.

Julian turned to see three teenage girls, around fifteen or sixteen, standing in front of him, the one in the middle had spoken.

“You’re from Lake City No. 1 Middle School?”

Noticing their school uniforms, Julian nodded slightly and pulled down his mask. “You actually recognized me?”

With both a mask and sunglasses on, it was nearly impossible for strangers to recognize him unless they were already familiar with him.

“It's really King Julian!”

The girl on the left squealed with excitement. “Ruru, your ears are seriously sharp!”

“Ruru heard you talking on the phone just now and thought your voice sounded familiar, that’s why we came over to ask,” the other girl explained.

Ruru was the girl in the middle.

“Just call me Julian,” he said with a smile.

Seeing the three girls from his old school gave him a sense of nostalgia.

“Then we’ll call you Senior Julian!”

Julian nodded, the title actually had a nice ring to it.

'Senior'—no one had ever called him that.

“Senior Julian, can we get your autograph?”

The three girls eagerly pulled out their notebooks.

Julian smiled and signed his name. On the first page of one of the notebooks, he noticed another signature, but couldn’t recognize whose name it was.

The girls chattered away excitedly, asking Julian all sorts of questions. He answered most of them patiently, only dodging a few he couldn’t reveal.

“Since I’m your senior, let me treat you to dinner,” Julian offered.

Amidst the cheers of the three, he took them to a popular restaurant nearby for a meal.
