Chapter 443: None Of These
"Hahaha! This is killing me! Everyone, come look! This idiot actually fell for my girlfriend. She was just playing around with him."
"And he actually took it seriously."
"He should take a good look at himself in the reflection of the water—see what a pathetic sight he is."
The golden Magikarp No. 5 kept mocking No. 10, attracting the attention of several other Pokémon nearby.
The surrounding Magikarp also burst into laughter, their voices turning into snorting squeals.
No. 10, surrounded by ridicule, felt its heart sink into despair, but he still looked at No. 8 with a glimmer of hope and asked, "So you were playing with me?"
No. 8 nodded, as if it were only natural. "How could I ever like a fool like you? I was just bored out of my mind, so I played with you to pass the time."
No. 10 lowered its head and said in a deep voice, "I see..."
Just then, another Magikarp swam over to No. 10 and smacked it with a Splash, sending it tumbling backward. "Stop acting tough around us."
No. 5 opened its mouth wide and called out: "Brothers, let’s get him!"
In an instant, the other Magikarp swarmed toward No. 10, repeatedly using Splash.
Although the move dealt no real damage, every hit left another crack in No. 10’s heart. And then, it heard No. 8’s cruel voice:
"Beat it to death! Don’t hold back!"
The cracks in No. 10’s heart grew deeper and deeper.
---
"Mom, that Magikarp looks so pitiful. The others are bullying it," a little girl inside the shopping center said, pointing at No. 10.
Through the glass column, they could see the Magikarp being relentlessly slammed around by the others.
"It’s because it’s too weak, if you grow up weak like that, you may be bullied too," the mother replied, using the scene as a lesson.
The little girl clenched her fists and declared with determination:
"Mom, I won’t be like that Magikarp! I will be the one bullying it!"
"Uh…"
The mother suddenly realized her attempt at teaching a lesson had completely backfired.
Especially when she noticed a man standing nearby with a Slowking at his side, staring at her with a strange expression—clearly having overheard their conversation.
The woman quickly corrected herself:
"What Mom meant was, we shouldn't let others bully us, but we also shouldn’t bully others."
The little girl frowned.
"Why can’t we bully others? I like bullying my little brother."
---
Meanwhile, No. 10’s mind was spiraling.
'You lied to me… it was all a lie… you were all lying to me!'
With a furious roar deep in its heart, No. 10 suddenly heard the sound of shackles shattering. A blinding white light burst forth from within, illuminating the entire glass column.
In an instant, the entire glass column was engulfed by the brilliant white radiance.
Amidst the light, No. 10's body began to rapidly change—growing larger and longer by the second.
Crack! Crack!
As it evolved, a surge of overwhelming power exploded from within No. 10’s body. The immense energy crashed against the walls of the glass column, causing it to splinter with countless cracks.
“Not good, it’s about to break!”
“Quick! Use your Pokémon to close the cracks!”
Many of the shoppers at the mall had smaller Pokémon with them, and since the Metagross Shopping Center mainly attracted trainers, plenty of people were quick to act.
“Dewgong, use Ice Beam!”
“Feraligatr, Ice Beam!”
“Cloyster, Ice Beam!”
“—!”
Over a dozen Pokémon attacked at once, all using Ice Beam in an attempt to freeze and seal the cracks.
But their power wasn’t enough.
Besides, the glass pillar was a towering 180 meters tall, and the cracks were concentrated at the very bottom. At that depth, the water pressure was immense.
The moment the cracks were frozen, the sound of splintering echoed again, and the fissures quickly spread upward.
If the entire glass pillar shattered, the water inside would surge out, flooding the first floor instantly. The damage would be catastrophic.
“Roooaaar!”
Inside the pillar, Magikarp No. 10 had already evolved into Gyarados.
Its level had jumped from 20 all the way to 68.
It now glared viciously at the surrounding Magikarp, especially No. 8—the one that had toyed with its feelings.
Magikarp No. 8: 'Is it too late to regret this now?'
The other Magikarp were dumbfounded. 'Wait, what? How did this guy evolve?!'
'Don’t tell me… being heartbroken is the secret to evolution for our kind?'
A golden light began to form in Gyarados’s mouth.
“The Magikarp inside evolved into a Gyarados! Run!”
If it fired that Hyper Beam, the already weakened glass would be obliterated.
“Slowking, Ice Beam!”
“It’s no use! We already—”
Before the trainer could finish, the Ice Beam struck the glass pillar—and miraculously, the entire structure froze solid. The water inside, along with all the Pokémon, was completely encased in ice.
The gray Gyarados was still in the middle of charging its Hyper Beam, frozen in place.
The crisis was averted, Julian glanced at the gray Gyarados. It had an unique color, but unfortunately, its potential was lacking, and its nature and abilities didn’t match what he needed.
Still… why did it suddenly evolve like that?
“Slow~”
Slowking: "Stop staring, let’s go buy clothes."
“Oh, right,” Julian said, turning his gaze away and continuing to browse the first floor with Slowking.
Meanwhile, the mall staff finally arrived. Seeing the entire pillar frozen solid, they were stunned. “...Which Elite-level trainer did this?”
The pillar had a diameter of nearly a hundred meters and stood 180 meters tall. The water inside weighed tens of thousands of tons—and it was seawater. Because of the salt content, freezing seawater was even more difficult than fresh water.
Yet, the entire glass pillar had been completely frozen solid.
The cold air emanating from the frozen pillar made even the mall’s pseudo-Elite trainer shiver.
Only an Elite Pokémon could do this.
That was why he assumed it had to be the work of an Elite trainer.
Meanwhile, Julian and Slowking had already left the scene.
They were now inside a men’s clothing store, trying on outfits.
Or rather, Slowking was the one picking out clothes.
A rather amusing scene unfolded.
Julian sat comfortably on the store’s sofa, casually playing on his phone.
Meanwhile, Slowking roamed around the store, selecting shirts, pants, and other clothes for Julian, with a female shop assistant following behind.
“Slow, Slow, Slow, Slow.”
Slowking mumbled as it shuffled along, stopping at each row of clothing and tapping a few random items with its paw.
The shop assistant nodded politely. “You want to buy these, right?”
“Slow?”
Slowking turned to look at her, pausing for a moment of contemplation. Then, it opened the small backpack on its back and pulled out a bag of walnuts, offering them to her.
“Thank you, but we have rules—we can’t accept gifts from customers.”
The shop assistant said with a smile, delighted by Slowking’s politeness but still politely declining.
“Should I go ahead and pack these clothes for you?” she asked.
But Slowking shook its head.
“You don’t like these clothes?” the assistant asked, puzzled.
“Slow!”
Slowking yelled at Julian, who was still absorbed in his phone.
“Oh-oh, here I come.”
Julian put down his phone and walked over. “Slowking means it doesn’t want the ones it just pointed at. It wants you to pack up everything else instead.”
“Slow~”
Slowking nodded with satisfaction.
Then, it firmly stuffed the bag of walnuts into the shop assistant’s hands.
'With this kind of IQ, you still don’t eat walnuts? What are you waiting for?'
