Pokemon: Reborn Rich Alternate Earth

Chapter 461: So Unfair

“This is voluntary. If you don’t want to go, you don’t have to.”

John was conflicted. He didn’t want his grandson to back down out of fear, but a Top-tier secret realm was simply too dangerous. Even with Julian’s exceptional talent, there was still a chance he might never return.

If Julian had five more years to grow, John wouldn’t be so worried.

“Don’t worry, Grandpa. I’ll be fine.”

Julian heard the concern in his grandfather’s voice and quickly reassured him.

Of course, he had to go. A real man feared nothing.

“The five slots have been decided, and you’re one of them. But there will be challengers. If you lose, your spot will go to someone else.”

“Understood.” Julian nodded.

With Drakoria’s massive population, it was only natural that there were many geniuses.

Only five people could enter the Top-tier secret realm, and they had to be under thirty years old.

Thirty candidates had been selected, and the officials had already chosen five. The remaining twenty-five had to fight for their spots.

The battles were scheduled for two days later.

After chatting with Julian for a while longer, John ended the call.

“Is the investigation from Champion Duke pointing to Babath?” Julian asked.

Nicole nodded, thinking of Julian’s phone call just now, she asked, “Did Champion Walker tell you?”

“Yeah.”

“Why would Babath try to assassinate you?”

Nicole was puzzled. Although relations between the two countries weren’t good, Babath shouldn’t have had any reason to do something so reckless.

Julian then explained what his grandfather had just told him.

“There’s probably the shadow of Celestria behind this.”

Babath was no match for Drakoria, but they had a powerful backer. Celestria and Drakoria were both superpowers, constantly competing for the number one spot.

If Celestria was supporting them from behind, then it was entirely possible that Babath had dared to carry out an assassination attempt.

Besides, Babath already had deep conflicts with Drakoria. If their “big brother” encouraged them and promised protection, it was only natural that their courage would swell.

First, they plotted against Drakoria’s strongest Champion, Duke. And now, they tried to assassinate Julian, the rising star of the younger generation.

When it came to recklessness, Babath was undoubtedly at the top.

The real question was whether they’d be able to withstand Drakoria’s wrath when the time came.

["Ding!"]

[“Temporary Mission Released”]

[“Obtain an Entry Slot for the Top-tier Secret Realm”]

[“Mission Rewards: Mental Recovery Potion, Time Capsule (Two Years), 3,000 Points”]

The voice in his head surprised Julian a little.

The system hadn’t issued a temporary mission in a long time. These days, Julian only completed his daily tasks, which mostly rewarded him with points—the primary currency he used to buy various items from the system’s shop.

Currently, he had one long-term main mission: to obtain badges from eighteen national-level Gyms. That was something he couldn’t complete anytime soon.

Now, a temporary mission had appeared, and the first reward was exactly what he needed.

Mental Recovery Potion—priced at 30,000 points in the system shop.

Julian had been reluctant to spend that many points, so he had been enduring the mental strain all this time.

The second reward, a Time Capsule (Two Years), was something he had never seen before. Curious, he checked its description.

When he finished reading, excitement surged through him.

[Time Capsule (Two Years): Grants two years' worth of natural growth experience upon use.]

Under normal conditions, wild Pokémon at the Advanced level could gain around ten levels in two years, while Pokémon at the Pseudo-Elite level might gain two or three.

For Pokémon under a trainer, this growth was multiplied several times.

Of course, once a Pokémon reached the Elite level, even two years wouldn’t make much difference.

Right now, what Julian lacked most was time.

He didn’t even need five years—just one or two would be enough for his Metagross and the others to all reach the Elite level.

Of course, they could already evolve now, but Julian wanted to keep building their foundation first.

“What’s wrong?”

Nicole noticed Julian suddenly freeze, and then his expression turned strangely excited.

She thought his injuries had worsened and immediately looked worried.

“It’s nothing, nothing. I just thought of something.”

Seeing the doubtful look on Nicole’s face, Julian quickly explained.

“Really?”

Nicole narrowed her eyes at him, clearly suspicious. She felt like he was lying to her.

“Why would I lie to you?” Julian said.

Meanwhile, Celebi, who was lounging on the couch munching on potato chips, gave him a mocking look. Yeah, right. There was no way Julian had just been “thinking of something.”

Only this foolish woman would believe his nonsense.

The great and intelligent Lord Celebi had already seen through everything.

“Slow~”

Slowking handed Julian a bag of walnuts—and then gave another to Nicole.

“…Slowking, I don’t think walnuts help with mental injuries.”

Julian wanted to refuse. If someone else offered you walnuts, it probably didn’t mean anything. But if Slowking gave you walnuts… it obviously thought you were too stupid and was telling you to boost your brainpower.

For the second time, Slowking had gifted him walnuts. Julian felt insulted.

“Slow~”

Slowking: "You don’t want them?"

Alright then.

In order to live comfortably in this house, Julian chose to play it safe and act obedient.

Celebi: "You’re such a coward. I really look down on you."

Slowking glanced at Celebi, then silently handed it a bag of walnuts as well.

Celebi: "I love walnuts the most!"

Julian looked at Celebi with disdain: “You’re really shameless.”

Celebi: "If you want to survive in this house, dignity is useless."

Nicole watched Julian and Celebi exchange words, but she couldn’t understand what Celebi was saying. Still, from its expression and Julian’s replies, it was clear the two were mocking each other.

Then she looked at the walnuts in her own hands. Nicole, of course, knew exactly what it meant when Slowking handed someone walnuts.

“Slow~”

Slowking: "You don’t want them either?"

Under Slowking’s pure and innocent gaze, Nicole hesitated for a moment—then accepted the walnuts.

Another classic moment of Slowking gifting walnuts.

As they ate walnuts and chatted, the atmosphere seemed quite harmonious—at least, that’s what Nicole thought.

In reality, Julian and Celebi were constantly bickering. If Celebi could speak human language, it would have been trash-talking Julian right in front of Nicole.

Meanwhile, Slowking had already busied itself in the kitchen. Since Nicole was staying for dinner, it had even adjusted tonight’s menu accordingly.

Julian watched as Celebi chugged an entire bottle of cola in huge gulps. After finishing, it even shot him a smug look.

Julian was only allowed one can of cola per day.

Celebi, on the other hand, could eat and drink whatever it wanted.

Julian: “What are you so proud of? You’re just a hopeless failure that even Slowking gave up on.”

Celebi: "I’m going to have another one. This time, I’ll have the green apple flavor."

Julian: 'So unfair. So frustrating.'
