Pokemon: Reborn Rich Alternate Earth

Chapter 463: Challenge Begins

The Walker, Hearth, Drake, and Willow families were the top families in the nation, each representing Steel, Fire, Dragon, and Ice respectively. They were the undisputed leaders of these four types.

All four families had produced Champions, or currently had a Champion among their ranks.

Other type-specialist families, while strong, did not qualify as top-tier.

The key factor in determining whether a family was top-tier was whether they have produced a Champion.

Elite-level Trainers were common, but Champions not so.

A family that had produced a Champion would retain its legacy for at least a century, even if that Champion had passed away.

Moreover, while Champions might die, their Pokémon almost certainly live on.

In terms of lifespan, humans cannot compare to Pokémon.

A Champion-level Pokémon can easily live for 300 to 400 years. If it belonged to a long-lived type—such as Ghost or Dragon—it could surpass 1,000 years.

Some naturally long-lived Pokémon, like Blastoise or Ninetales, can live for centuries with ease.

That’s why, even if a family that once produced a Champion eventually declines, forcing them into a desperate situation was never a good idea—you never know if they still have one of those ancient, battle-hardened Pokémon left in the family.

By the time you realized it, it’ll be too late to regret it.

Julian and the other three were all descendants of aristocratic families, but Pierce was not. He was born a commoner, yet his extraordinary talent made him a key focus of the military.

It could even be said that Pierce was the official golden child of Drakoria, personally raised by the state.

Otherwise, with his background, how could he have obtained a Regirock?

Pierce had the weakest family background, but his potential was sky-high.

As the five of them stood together, Julian drew the most attention.

He was the youngest, yet the most famous.

Of course, fame alone didn’t mean much.

Take Pierce, for example—aside from his appearance in the Hundred Schools League, there had been almost no news about him since. But could you really underestimate him just because he wasn’t in the spotlight?

The same applied to Asher, Ember, and Rowan. At Julian’s current age, they were also considered prodigies, surpassing most of their peers.

Later, they gradually faded from public view, devoting themselves to improving their strength.

Perhaps in a few years, they would appear in the once-every-four-years Elite Challenge.

Disappearing from the public eye wasn’t a sign of weakness—it was a strategy for growing stronger in secret.

Among the five of them, Julian, Asher, Ember, and Rowan were all strong contenders to inherit their respective families.

Julian, however, was certain to take over the Walker family.

After all, he was the only male heir of the entire Walker family. Not only were there no other male heirs, but there weren’t even any female descendants.

If he didn’t take over, there would be no one left.

Although Ember was a woman, the current head of the Hearth family was also a woman.

The Hearth family was one of the few families where women could raise up to the position of a family head.

"It's about time, each of you pick a battlefield," John said.

The five of them nodded.

Pierce chose Field No. 1, Asher took No. 2, Ember selected No. 3, Rowan chose No. 4, and Julian took No. 5.

At exactly 10 a.m., the remaining 25 participants entered under the guidance of Duke.

For an elimination match like this to attract the presence of two Champions showed just how much the nation valued this Top-tier secret realm. It also proved that every participant here was among the most elite of talents.

If these 30 people were to die, Drakoria might not produce another powerful Trainer for the next 30 years. The country could even face a severe talent gap in the future.

The 25 new arrivals looked at Julian and the other four with piercing eyes, some dissatisfied, some pensive, and some giving taunting looks.

Julian and the others were officially designated by the government, recognized as the five strongest Trainers in Drakoria under 30.

But professional Trainers all possessed a strong competitive spirit—especially the young ones.

Why should it be them?

If you haven't defeated me, why should I accept that you're better than me?

Every single one of these 25 participants was a prodigy within their own family, brimming with pride. And today, they were being told they were a step below these five? Of course, they wouldn’t take it lying down.

"There are five battlefields. You'll be divided into groups of five and face off in one-on-one battles," Duke announced.

"Whoever is still standing by noon will earn the right to enter the Top-tier secret realm."

"If you’re not convinced, then prove your worth—go all out and defeat them!"

"This newly discovered Top-tier secret realm is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. If you can seize its fortunes—and survive—you might just become a future Champion."

All 25 challengers were already at the Elite level, with the weakest being at the early-stage of Elite, and quite a few at the mid-stage, and all of them were over 25 years old.

They were already Elites, so their next goal was naturally to become a champion.

Almost every Elite had a lifelong goal to become a champion.

But talent, determination, and resources alone weren’t enough to become a Champion. There was one more crucial factor—opportunity.

In fact, in the end, opportunity often outweighed all three combined.

With the right opportunity, even a pig could soar to the skies.

And where did these opportunities come from? Secret realms Or Ruins.

And now an unexplored Top-tier secret realm was in front of them. Although there were many dangers inside, it was also full of endless opportunities.

Not entering didn’t mean one couldn’t become a Champion, but entering would undoubtedly increase the chances of reaching that goal.

Now, the opportunity was right in front of them—it was just a matter of whether they could seize it.

Julian and the other four had to each defeat five challengers in order to secure their ticket to the Top-tier secret realm.

This was also a test for them.

Since they were recognized as the five strongest Trainers under 30 in Drakoria, it would be unacceptable if they couldn’t handle multiple opponents at once.

The 25 challengers were all exceptional—but Julian and his group were even more so. Otherwise, why would they be the ones being challenged?

Through a random drawing, the matchups were quickly determined.

The ones who got Julian had mixed reactions—some were happy, while others were depressed.

Those who were happy believed that Julian, being the youngest among the five, was likely the weakest, and he was only at the early-stage of Elite

On the other hand, the depressed ones knew that Julian’s strength defied logic, and fighting stronger opponents was second nature to him.

The five challengers each had their own thoughts.

Standing at one end of the battlefield, Julian soon saw his five opponents appear at the other end. These were the ones he needed to defeat.

“So… who’s going first?” one of them asked.

Going first was definitely a disadvantage.

However, there was also a massive advantage—if the first challenger managed to defeat Julian, they would directly earn the ticket to the Top-tier secret realm, and the remaining four would be eliminated directly.

But if they failed, the later challengers would have a greater advantage.
