Chapter 472: Healed
A fight was definitely not going to happen. Not only had the battle among the five already ended, but aside from Julian’s Metagross, the other four trainers’ Pokémon were all more or less injured.
Even if Metagross wasn’t hurt, it had definitely used up a fair amount of stamina.
Metagross: 'I can still fight ten more.'
Another reason there wouldn’t be a fight was that even if they wanted to challenge Julian, he wouldn’t agree. Right now, what he desperately wanted was to return to the hotel and use the Mental Recovery Potion.
The sharp stabs of pain that kept flashing through his mind were already making his expression look strained.
Perhaps noticing something off about Julian’s expression, John suddenly thought of something and said with a smile, “Since the selection round is over and the slots are confirmed, you all should head back to the hotel first.”
Pierce was the first to agree. He had already accepted Julian’s strength and had never intended to cause trouble for him.
As for Asher and the other two, they didn’t object either. Even if they wanted to challenge Julian, it didn’t have to be today.
Heading back now would give them time to study Julian more closely, which would give them better odds if they challenged him later.
The five of them left quickly. Soon, only John, Duke, and Victor were left at the venue. As for the elders, they also left with their kids.
“Do you think Julian’s injury might be a problem?”
John had also been about to leave—he wanted to go check on his grandson, especially since he’d noticed that Julian’s face didn’t look quite right earlier.
The one who asked was Duke, the Psychic-type Champion and also an Advanced-level psychic himself. Even though Julian had tried to hide it.
After the battle ended, Duke had sensed the fatigue in Julian’s mind and the slightly chaotic psychic waves radiating from him.
“My dear grandson said he’s already found a cure. He’ll be fine before heading into the Top-tier secret realm.”
The two people present were trustworthy, so John didn’t hide anything.
Victor frowned slightly and said, “The Drake family has a Spirit Crystal that can treat mental damage. I’ll have someone bring it over later.”
Spirit Crystals are treasures that strengthen the essence of Psychic-types. Though not the ultimate treasure, they’re already very close to it—just one tier below the best.
Given the Drake family’s good relationship with Julian, they certainly wouldn’t be stingy with such a thing.
“Let’s wait and see. If my grandson really needs it, he’ll definitely tell me,” John said.
He understood Julian well—if Julian wasn’t confident, he wouldn’t have said he’d be healed before entering the Top-tier secret realm.
Since he said it, he must have a plan.
“Alright.”
Victor nodded.
Duke then added, “Then keep a close eye on Julian for now. Victor, I’ll leave these five to you for the next few days. I’ve got other matters to attend to, so I’ll be heading off first.”
As the president of the Trainer Association, Duke showing up in person already showed the great importance attached to the selection process.
“Alright, these five will definitely improve over the next few days.”
Victor showed a slight smile—but if any outsider had seen it, they’d definitely think that he had some malicious intentions.
As if he suddenly thought of something, Duke gave a warning: “Go easy on them.”
“Relax, I know what I’m doing,” Victor replied with a nod.
But with that completely unconcerned look on his face, Duke still couldn’t help feeling uneasy.
Still, he didn’t say anything else. After releasing his Alakazam, he Teleported and vanished from the area.
“Guess I’ll get going too.”
John waved to Victor and, once he was outside, rode off on his Metagross.
---
Hotel.
Inside the room, Julian had already taken out the temporary mission reward: a Mental Recovery Potion. The pale, cloudy liquid in the bottle looked completely unappetizing.
Just from the color, it really didn’t make him want to drink it.
He closed his eyes and downed it in one go.
After finishing, Julian smacked his lips. It wasn’t bitter—in fact, there was a slight sweetness to it. Way better than he’d expected.
“It didn't- ahh, comfy—”
He was about to say it didn’t seem to be working, but before the words left his mouth, a cool, soothing sensation spread through the depths of his mind. It felt like a pair of gentle hands were calming the storm in his head.
The pleasant sensation made Julian involuntarily close his eyes and let out a soft moan.
Metagross, watching this scene from the side, was stunned.
Metagross: 'Are you sure that’s not some kind of drug?'
The soothing feeling lasted for over two minutes before finally fading.
Julian opened his eyes, a little reluctant for it to end.
“Meta~”
Metagross: "Drool."
Julian: (⊙o⊙)
He wiped his mouth—yep, there really was saliva.
“No need to worry anymore. I’m all healed up now.”
Julian said, patting Metagross on the head.
The sharp pains in his head were completely gone now.
He even felt like his psychic abilities had improved slightly.
Maybe this was what people meant by “blessings in disguise.”
“Ugh, too bad I didn’t reach the Top-level,” Julian muttered in disappointment.
Top-level ability was practically a fantasy. So far, no human with special abilities had ever broken through to that level.
It seemed that the Advanced-level was already the limit.
Some have even predicted that if a special ability user did reach the Top-level, the boost they could provide to a Pokémon might rival Mega Evolution.
If it were a Psychic-type user, reaching the Top-level might even let them match a pseudo-Elite-level Pokémon.
Though the difference between the Advanced-level and the Top-level was just one rank, the actual gap was like that between a pseudo-Elite and an Elite.
So, even though his psychic powers had improved a little, Julian still felt quite dissatisfied.
He had just gone through a major event—according to cultivation novels, shouldn’t he be soaring into the sky right about now?
Knock knock
A knock came at the door, followed by a familiar voice.
“Open up, my dear grandson.”
John's voice came from outside the door.
"Grandpa, why are you here?"
“Are you alright?”
John asked with concern.
Julian was taken aback for a moment, before realizing what was going on.
Without saying anything, he directly lifted John with Psychic.
As he felt himself suddenly floating off the ground, John let out a hearty laugh. “Alright, now I can stop worrying.”
If Julian was still injured, there was no way he’d be able to do this.
After putting John down, Julian said with a smile: “I took something and got healed.”
John nodded, not even bother asking what he took to recover so quickly.
After all, his dear grandson had once picked up a Dratini with purple-grade potential just by walking down the street.
So having something on him that could heal psychic damage? Not strange at all. Completely reasonable.
“That guy Victor even said he wanted to give you a Spirit Crystal—but I guess you don’t need it anymore.”
Spirit Crystal?
That really was a good item.
Julian was tempted and then thought about it.
Last time, the Drake family had already let him enter the special Advanced-level secret realm-Dragon's Den. He still owed them for that favor.
If he took another one, that would just add to the debt. And favors were a lot harder to repay than they looked.
And since he was already healed, the Spirit Crystal wouldn’t really help him much anymore. But it can be given to Metagross instead.
“Grandpa, I don’t think I’m 'fully' recovered yet…”
John: “Got it.”
