Chapter 277: Chapter 267: Finding Out Qiao Jing is Pregnant
“Mom, Qiao Jing’s lips have gone white, and she’s sweating all over, why are you making such a fuss over nothing?”
Zhan Nanqing frowned, unable to hold back another jab at Su Manhan.
Su Manhan also felt somewhat guilty and let go of Qiao Jing’s hand, muttering a complaint.
“I just gave her a little tug, didn’t I? I bet Qiao Jing is faking it to frame me.”
It was just a light pull, and Qiao Jing suddenly fainted? How could that possibly happen?
How could a healthy person faint just from a tug? It must be Qiao Jing feigning this state to frame her!
Zhan Nanqing took a few deep breaths before she was able to control herself and stop talking to Su Manhan. If her mom knew that the person she pulled until they fainted was Professor Qiao, she would certainly be shocked.
If this delay affected Qiao Jing’s work at the research institute, her mom might face consequences.
“How do you feel? Do you need me to take you to the hospital?”
After Su Manhan stopped her incessant chatter, Qiao Jing felt her headache abating. She leaned on Zhan Nanqing for a while before she could barely stand on her own. She shook her head.
“No need.”
She ignored Su Manhan and, pushing away Zhan Nanqing, intended to go back to her room to rest.
Walking alone, Qiao Jing took a few steps with a somewhat unsteady gait. She stumbled along the way, nearly falling several times, but fortunately, she was leaning on the wall, preventing her from crashing to the ground.
Zhan Nanqing, unable to let go of her concern, ignored Su Manhan’s look telling her not to meddle and went to support Qiao Jing.
Su Manhan couldn’t stand seeing her daughter helping Qiao Jing.
“Why bother with her? She’s just pretending. Let’s go, back home.”
As Qiao Jing tried once more to push Zhan Nanqing away and return to her room by herself, her vision darkened sharply once again, and her body uncontrollably tilted to one side.
Just as she was about to fall and have a close encounter with the ground, Zhan Nanqing quickly caught Qiao Jing.
When Zhan Nanqing realized that Qiao Jing had completely fainted, her heart skipped a few beats.
She hurriedly took out her phone and dialed 120, supporting Qiao Jing over to the sofa and propping her up on it.@@novelbin@@
What should she do? Why did she suddenly faint?
The sound of the ambulance quickly resonated from downstairs, and Zhan Nanqing opened the front door, descending the stairs with the medical team.
During this time, Su Manhan didn’t dare to hold Zhan Nanqing back any longer. If something serious happened to Qiao Jing, she couldn’t bear the responsibility.
Zhan Nanqing accompanied Qiao Jing to the hospital alone, as Su Manhan had already gone home. She stared intently at the closed door of the emergency room.
If something unexpected happened to Qiao Jing, and she kept it from her brother, he would definitely blame her.
But if she called her brother and explained, it would likely cause a conflict between him and their mom.
Should she tell her brother or not?
The wait felt excruciatingly long. During this time, Zhan Nanqing’s anxiety intensified. She was very worried about Qiao Jing’s well-being, as well as the potential argument between her brother and their mom.
Zhan Nanqing paced anxiously back and forth in front of the emergency room. After glancing at her phone for the time, she put it back down, silently praying for nothing to happen to Qiao Jing.
Finally!
The doors to the emergency room opened, and Zhan Nanqing’s eyes brightened at the sound, rushing to meet them.
Qiao Jing was still in a coma, lying on a gurney with her face still looking very pale, as a nurse pushed her toward the ward.
Seeing Qiao Jing’s continued pallor, Zhan Nanqing became even more concerned. She followed closely behind the doctor, inquiring about Qiao Jing’s condition.
“Doctor, how is she? Why would she faint so suddenly?”
The doctor glanced at Zhan Nanqing, “There’s no major problem, but—”
As he spoke, the doctor furrowed his brow. This was a matter of patient privacy, and he was unsure whether he should divulge it.
Upon hearing the word “but,” Zhan Nanqing’s heart lurched. But what?
If there’s no major issue, why even mention a ‘but’?
“What’s the matter, doctor? But what?”
The doctor hesitated for a moment before asking, “Are you the patient’s family member?”
Zhan Nanqing thought to herself that even though their family didn’t recognize Qiao Jing, she still counted as her family member and nodded.
After confirming Zhan Nanqing’s identity, the doctor continued with the rest of his unfinished words.
“But she’s had a bit of fetal distress and needs good care.”
Zhan Nanqing was stunned, what? Qiao Jing was pregnant?
This news left Zhan Nanqing frozen in place, her mind racing back to the scene when Qiao Jing was retching in the lab. Could it really be that she was pregnant?
Without a doubt, this child had to be her brother’s.
She didn’t even have to think about it; given Qiao Jing’s standoffish nature, no one could get close to her.
It must have been her brother’s shamelessness, climbing into Qiao Jing’s bed on his own, otherwise, how could there be a pregnancy?
Just then, the doctor’s tone shifted from his previous gentle demeanor to scolding Zhan Nanqing.
“The patient is carrying three babies in her belly. How does your family usually take care of the patient? One ought to be attentive to a pregnant woman’s health, especially since she’s carrying more than one! How could you let her experience fetal distress?”
“Ah?”
Zhan Nanqing was completely dumbfounded now, so much so that she didn’t even notice the doctor leaving.
Being pregnant was one thing, but triplets?! What on earth had her brother done?!
When Qiao Jing woke up again, the first thing she saw upon opening her eyes was the bright white ceiling, and the familiar scent of disinfectant made her realize she was in a hospital.
She looked toward the side of the bed and was about to get up when she noticed Zhan Nanqing seated next to her.
Qiao Jing guessed that it was Zhan Nanqing who had brought her to the hospital, “Thank you.”
Zhan Nanqing stared at Qiao Jing and mumbled, “There’s no need to thank me…”
If it hadn’t been for my mother insisting on causing trouble today, this wouldn’t have happened. Though she didn’t pull too hard, she was still responsible for this outcome.
Qiao Jing sat up and suddenly noticed that Zhan Nanqing was looking at her rather oddly.
She didn’t ask further and got ready to go to the restroom. Zhan Nanqing also stood up.
“Take it slow, where are you going?”
Zhan Nanqing watched Qiao Jing, reaching out to support her, fearing she might fall or bump into something.
Qiao Jing dodged the help and cast an inquiring glance at Zhan Nanqing, answering, “To the restroom, I can go by myself.”
Seeing Qiao Jing preparing to go to the restroom alone, Zhan Nanqing hurried forward a few steps and cautiously supported her.
“No! I’ll help you, be careful.”
The more Qiao Jing watched Zhan Nanqing’s careful behavior, the stranger it seemed, and almost simultaneously, she had a guess.
“Do you know?”
Zhan Nanqing nodded, confirming it.
Qiao Jing frowned slightly, knowing there was a risk of being discovered when coming to the hospital for a checkup, but she hadn’t expected her pregnancy to become known so quickly.
However, fortunately, the person in the know wasn’t Zhan Qipei. She instructed Zhan Nanqing,
“Don’t tell anyone.”
Zhan Nanqing wore an ‘I knew it’ expression, guessing her brother was unaware of the situation.
If her brother knew Qiao Jing was pregnant, he’d surely be desperate to tell the whole world, to announce that he had a child, that he was going to be a father.
What do you think?
