Chapter 286: Chapter 276 Xu Moqian Proposes to Qiao Jing
Su Manhan muttered softly.
“I don’t want to understand either, I have nothing to say to her.”
Her brows were tightly furrowed, yet there was an indescribable feeling in her heart.
Zhan Qipei said no more and stood up, ready to leave.
When Su Manhan saw Zhan Qipei stand up, she was startled.
“Where are you going?”
Zhan Qipei straightened out his suit.
“To take care of her at the hospital.”
He didn’t continue the conversation with Su Manhan and turned to walk towards the door.
Su Manhan stared blankly at Zhan Qipei’s retreating figure, her expression somewhat complex.
What her son said wasn’t wrong, but how could she just accept Qiao Jing after a few words?
Although her attitude towards Qiao Jing wasn’t very good in the past.
But Qiao Jing was also quite rude to her, and she remembered all these things clearly!
The next morning dawned.
Only Qiao Jing was left in the ward, as Zhan Qipei had been sent off to work by her.
Xu Moqian, with a bouquet of flowers in his hand and carrying a fruit basket, arrived at the entrance of the hospital room, and at first glance, he saw Qiao Jing leaning against the window, his eyes immediately drawn to her.
The trees outside swayed with the breeze, the birds on them chirping away, and the sunlight fell on her, enveloping her in a golden glow.
Her already fair skin appeared even more snow-white and translucent under the sunlight.
At this moment, Qiao Jing gave Xu Moqian the impression of a cold and beautiful white fox, out of place with the outside world.
She was wearing a somewhat oversized hospital gown, making her figure look slender and slightly frail.
A sudden breeze blew in from outside, stirring the large hospital gown she was wearing. She reached out to pull together the coat on the outside to prevent the wind from blowing the gown underneath around.
Xu Moqian was transfixed by this scene.
In his heart, Qiao Jing had always been independent and strong, capable of resolving anything effortlessly, making people around her depend on her, and he was one of those who chose to depend on her.
This gave him the illusion that even if others fell, Qiao Jing would never topple.
However, when he saw the image of Qiao Jing falling, his heart ached along with it; after all, she was a woman too, and she needed someone to protect her.
Xu Moqian sighed inwardly, shook his head, and thought that Qiao Jing still needed a man’s protection.
It seemed he still needed his broad arms to protect Qiao Jing.
He took a few steps forward, came to Qiao Jing’s side and, seizing the opportunity, knelt on one knee, putting the fruit basket aside. Now he held the lilies in both hands, looking up at Qiao Jing’s back.
When Qiao Jing heard footsteps entering the room, she pulled her gaze from the window and turned around just as Xu Moqian was already kneeling.
“Sister Jing, would you marry me?”
Qiao Jing felt somewhat dazed looking at Xu Moqian’s face, her thoughts suddenly pulled back to their university days.
Back then, Xu Moqian had also knelt on one knee with a bouquet of flowers to confess to her. Back then, he dressed quite flamboyantly and talked about making her his girlfriend or something; now, he had upgraded to a wife.
The face before her was more mature than the Xu Moqian in her memory, but he was repeating the same act from their college days.
In Qiao Jing’s eyes, he was still as childish as before. She glanced at the lilies in Xu Moqian’s hands and smiled.
“I’ve never seen anyone propose with lilies.”
Xu Moqian heard Qiao Jing’s subtle rejection and scratched his head as he stood up. Looking at the lilies in his hand, meant for visiting the sick, he tentatively spoke.
“Maybe I should come back another day with roses? I’ll get nine thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine of them, a huge bunch, and then kneel down with a diamond ring—that would feel more ceremonial.”
He remembered that those girls said they really valued a sense of ceremony, so Qiao Jing probably did too, right?
Qiao Jing didn’t answer his question, but frowned when she heard that he wanted to buy so many roses.
“If you have extra money, I suggest you donate it to the Red Cross, to the children in the poor mountainous areas.”
Xu Moqian picked up the flowers and fruit basket he had in his hands, placed them all on the table, and then returned to Qiao Jing’s side.
He leaned against the window on the other side of Qiao Jing, internally struggling with whether he should ask that question or not.
But after thinking about the scene he witnessed as soon as he entered the hospital room, Xu Moqian made up his mind. He had to ask—this question was very important to him.
“Sister Jing, do you really not have feelings for Zhan Qipei?”
Qiao Jing gave Xu Moqian a speechless look and rolled her eyes at him.
“Does it look like I do?”
Xu Moqian broke into a smile upon receiving the answer he had hoped for.
“Of course not, your taste is very good, not falling for Zhan Qipei. That Zhan Qipei, heh, I’m way better than him!”
It seemed he still had a chance, and if that was the case, he could put the plan he had in mind into action—and he had to help Qiao Jing escape the misery of this marriage as soon as possible!
Xu Moqian tentatively began to speak.
“There’s still over forty days before you and Zhan Qipei divorce, right? I have an idea that could allow you to divorce him sooner.”
Qiao Jing looked at Xu Moqian with a skeptical gaze.
“What?”
Xu Moqian opened his mouth, about to share his plan.
Just at that moment!
Another person arrived at the door of the hospital room. Lin Xiuxiang knocked on the door and, upon seeing Qiao Jing, displayed a warm smile.
“Qiao Qiao, I’ve come to see you. How are you feeling?”
She noticed another person in the room.
“Xu Moqian? You came to visit Qiao Qiao as well.”
“Yes, you two talk.”
Xu Moqian swallowed the words he hadn’t managed to say, but it was alright—he had already made up his mind.
Since Sister Jing had said she didn’t like Zhan Qipei, he would help her out, so she wouldn’t have to suffer at the Zhan Family anymore and could revert to her previous independent and carefree self.
Qiao Jing didn’t dwell on what Xu Moqian didn’t get to finish saying and walked toward Lin Xiuxiang.
“I’m alright now, I’ll be discharged tomorrow.”
She led Lin Xiuxiang to the sofa to sit down.
Lin Xiuxiang, noticing the fruit basket and flowers already on the table, placed the bag she brought on the other side.
“I’ve brought you some cookies, baked personally by the children at the welfare home.”
She laughed as she recalled how the children had gathered around, clamoring about wanting to go to the hospital with her.
“When the children heard you were ill, they all wanted to come visit you, but I couldn’t bring them all, so they said they would bake cookies for you to eat.”
Qiao Jing sat quietly to one side, listening to Lin Xiuxiang finish talking, her gaze resting on the bag with a cartoon bear print, feeling a warm sensation in her heart.
“Then when you go back, please say thank you to them for me.”
Lin Xiuxiang took out a small piece of cookie from the bag and placed it in Qiao Jing’s hand.
“What’s there to thank for? The children learned their cooking skills from you; even these cookies were baked with the recipe you taught them, so you deserve some credit.”
“Besides, you often buy them new clothes and treats. They say you’re very kind and they really like you.”
What do you think?
