Chapter 878: Chapter 878: A Military Book_1
Lingzi was crying so hard that her whole body was shaking, her small face red and covered in tears.
Jiang Ruobai felt his heart shatter at the sight.
If this were in the Jiang Family, he would never allow it.
But alas, this was within the Imperial Palace, where the Crown Prince and Princess Consort had the final say, and he had no place to publicly refute them.
“Mother, no more, no more!” Knowing who would be most effective to plead to at this moment, Lingzi ran to Jiang Ning, hugging her legs as she cried and shouted, “Lingzi won’t misbehave anymore, please don’t hit Nanny Sun, Sister Pei’er, and Sister Xiaoman anymore!”
The two people she mentioned – one was her mentor and nanny, the other her primary maid.
As for Xiaoman, needless to say, she came from the Jiang Family.
All of them were personally chosen by Jiang Ning. Aside from Xiaoman who was straightforward, the rest were gentle and quiet. Jiang Ning put great trust in them on usual days.
Today’s incident was not entirely their fault. The children were all in the hall listening to Lin Shimo’s teachings. As servants, it was only natural for them not to cram in there, they didn’t expect Lingzi to slip away on the pretext of going to the restroom.
By the time they noticed their young mistress’s absence, she was already in Prime Minister Jiang’s arms.
Accustomed to being with these people day and night, Lingzi had formed a deep bond with them. Seeing them beaten until they were black and blue, she was frightened and could not stop crying.
Li Hongyuan, who always doted on this daughter, could not bear it any longer, and stepped forward to take Lingzi away from this place.
As Lingzi clung to Li Hongyuan like a little koala, her small body shook with every sob.
“I will never do it again,” she sobbed into Li Hongyuan’s ear.
“Daddy believes in Lingzi. Good girl, it’s alright now.”
The typically impassive Crown Prince was now strolling in the yard of Elegance Palace, cradling his little daughter in his arms, consoling her with his gentle voice.
The little girl slowly calmed down, but due to the intensity of her cries, she couldn’t stop right away and continued to hiccup.
Li Tingqian brought a cup of water for Lingzi to drink.
Wenzan then handed her a handkerchief to wipe her face.
After drinking water and wiping her face, Lingzi obediently rested in her daddy’s embrace, looking wilting.
Watching the father and the daughter, Jiang Ning saw they were avoiding her, showing no inclination of letting her come close, so she simply turned around to escort Jiang Ruobai out and have a talk.
Jiang Ruobai sighed repeatedly, “Why do you have to do this?”
“Children don’t know the seriousness of their actions, they need discipline,” Jiang Ning responded.
“Discipline doesn’t mean what you did, you frightened her,” he retorted.
“Her fear indicates that she still holds a sense of reverence. There’s still hope for her.”
“Lingzi is only a small child! Your words are too harsh,” Jiang Ruobai disapproved. “Lingzi is the Princess here, no matter how arrogant or unruly she is, it doesn’t matter much.”
“That would only doom her.”
Jiang Ning did not want to argue about this with her father anymore, so she changed the subject. “I heard that Uncle is about to set off soon, how are the preparations? Can I go see him?”
“Better not. As the Princess Consort, you shouldn’t be seen constantly leaving the palace, it might spark unnecessary discussion among the court officials,” Jiang Ruobai replied, walking steadily with his hands clasped behind his back. “There are still about four or five days.”
“The battlefield is dangerous, and I can’t really help Uncle. Dad, can you give this to Uncle for me?”
Jiang Ning pulled out a thin booklet.
Jiang Ruobai took it and glanced at the cover. Seeing the words “Tiger Bell Scripture” written on it, he curiously asked, “What is this?”
“It’s a military manual.”
“How come I haven’t heard about this military manual before?” He flipped it open and was all the more surprised to find that the handwriting in this booklet all belonged to his own daughter.
