Chapter 1957: Chapter 1957: Quite a Stir
“You shouldn’t have moved here, sigh.”
Sect Master Leng sighed softly, shaking his head, yet feeling helpless. How could he go against his wishes?
“If not here, where should I go?”
The young man mustered a faint smile, his gaze somewhat scattered as he looked at Sect Master Leng.
“I have a feeling, it might just be a few more days for me. When… when is he coming?” he asked.
“Soon. With the Great Elder and Second Elder escorting him, he should arrive shortly,” Sect Master Leng could only respond thusly. There wasn’t much else to say to a man in the final stages of illness.
“It would be good to see him just once,” the young man muttered wistfully.
He was none other than the Young Sect Master of the Eternal Night Sect—Leng Yikun—who everyone thought had already succumbed to his illness.
Although he had not yet passed away, judging by his current state, it wouldn’t be long now. There used to be a physician taking care of him, which was slightly better, but lately, he had refused to see any doctors, preferring to hide away alone.
“I’ve heard that his cultivation talent is extremely high. If father could properly nurture him, he would undoubtedly be the perfect candidate for Young Sect Master,” he said.
At those words, Sect Master Leng opened his mouth but made no sound.
The ideal candidate for Young Sect Master, naturally, he hoped that his own son before him would recover and succeed him, but alas, it seemed like an unachievable dream now.
How many physicians had he consulted, how many life-saving elixirs had his son taken, and yet none could save him. What could he do?
Sometimes, he truly wished he could be like Lian Qingyi, devoid of conscience, capable of performing the most depraved acts. Perhaps then, he wouldn’t have to bury his own child.
“He will be here soon. When the time comes, I, as your father, will bring him to meet you,” he said after a while.
“Hmm.”
Leng Yikun nodded his head slightly.
Yet, even such a minor action triggered a severe bout of coughing.
“This body of yours is really… Kun’er, listen to your father, maybe we should still take you back up…” Sect Master Leng urged anxiously, intending to take his son back.
“There’s no need.”
Leng Yikun raised his hand, stopping him mid-sentence.
“I’m already a dead man. Let everyone continue to think I’m gone.”
Indeed, he had already experienced death once, having stopped breathing and been placed in a coffin, only to be found still alive at the last moment.
Afterward, despite his father wanting to take him back to his own courtyard, he himself didn’t wish to return. Since the farce had already taken place, it was better to let everyone lose hope completely.
“Is there much commotion from mother’s side?” he inquired.
“This…”
How was Sect Master Leng to answer such a question?
As for Lady Leng, her own son could have become the Sect Master, but he was gone in the blink of an eye. And now, she had to watch as another woman’s son assumed the mantle of Sect Master of the Eternal Night Sect. How could she possibly accept that?
“You needn’t concern yourself with her affairs. No matter what, as your father, I won’t let you be motherless.”
“Sigh.”
Leng Yikun let out a soft sigh.
His father was a good man in every way, just too kind-hearted, too easily bullied and manipulated.
If not for his mother’s scheming, there wouldn’t have been that son outside, and he wouldn’t have that younger brother.
But it was also thanks to mother’s plotting that they all could see a glimmer of hope. Otherwise, with his current condition, where else could his father find another son to inherit the position of Young Sect Master?
This must be a twist of fate.
What do you think?
