Chapter 1 Yellow Wind Ridge, Eight Hundred Miles, A Sudden Plague of Rats!

“Yellow Wind Ridge, eight hundred miles, all filled with rats wielding sniper rifles. Starting with three Gatling guns, shooting so relentlessly that even fate itself finds no escape.”

Among the mountains, a hoarse voice howled, scaring birds back to their nests and making beasts hide, as none dared to show themselves.

Standing at the entrance of a rat hole, a figure performed morning exercises while singing, reminiscing about past glories. This was Yellow Wind King, a man who had been reborn.

In his past life, he was an ordinary orphan, a mechanical engineering graduate, unmarried and single at over thirty years old. Back then, Black Myth—Wukong had just been released and instantly became a smash hit. He bought it immediately.

Unfortunately, he had no talent for gaming. After dying for the 100th time to the rat snipers, he furiously kicked his PC case. Who knew that in his misfortune, his foot struck the power strip, electrocuting him to death? When he woke up again, he had become a rat.

And not just in any world—this was the world of Journey to the West. His parents weren’t ordinary rats either. They carried the bloodline of the ancient beast, the Moon-Devouring Rat, and had become powerful demons.

Under their protection, Yellow Wind King grew up safely. With his inherited bloodline, he embarked on the path of demonic cultivation. But good times didn’t last long. One day, the Buddhist forces of Mount Ling swept through the mountains, hunting demons. His parents led the pursuers away to protect him.

Yellow Wind King hid deep underground and barely escaped. His parents, however, never returned.

“Thirty years have passed!”

A shadow of hatred flickered in his golden eyes.

He had hidden in this place for three decades. Using the cultivation techniques left by his parents, he absorbed moonlight and the world’s spiritual energy every night. Finally, last night, he underwent a transformation.

“But it’s not enough.”

He clenched his fists. Even now, his strength was barely on par with low-level demons—far from reaching Demon Immortal status.

The Heavens, Mount Ling, and the Underworld ruled supreme. They tightly controlled the Three Realms and Six Paths, with eyes and ears everywhere—Mountain Gods, Earth Gods, and more.

Powerful figures like Subhuti and Zhenyuanzi dominated their own sacred lands, monopolizing mountains and holy sites for cultivation.

As for the demon race…

His parents once said, “The heavens despise demons. While humans can become immortals in a hundred years, demons need a thousand.”

Worse still, Heaven, the Buddhist sects, and the great powers all look down on rootless demon cultivators—slaughtering them at will.

Yellow Wind King had no choice but to hide in his cave, only coming out at night to train alone.

Seeking a Master?

Don’t joke.

Unless you were a born demon saint like Sun Wukong, you’d be lucky not to be skinned alive and turned into a pill if caught.

Even Sun Wukong was thrown into Taishang Laojun’s furnace—and only survived because of his immense strength. Imagine any other demon trying that!

Even among the great demon saints, those who surrendered rarely received genuine teachings. Some even collaborated with immortals and Buddhas, betraying their own kind for longevity. Better to study on his own.

Besides, he was too weak. If he left Yellow Wind Ridge now, other demons might eat him first.

“Finally transformed! What a great feeling!”

Standing upright, Yellow Wind King had a rat head, human body, and white fur. Though thin, he stood about 1.8 meters tall. Since it was his first transformation, he still retained many beastly traits. His parents once said nine transformations were required to fully become human.

They had collected books on demon-to-human transformations, trying to create a proper method. Yellow Wind King often studied these in his free time.

He flexed his muscles, channeling demonic energy into his right hand.

“Sching!”

His claws extended, as sharp as daggers. He pounced forward and slashed at a stone wall.

“Swish, swish!”

Five deep claw marks appeared, as if slicing through tofu. He landed, then leaped again, slashing five claw-shaped wind blades that easily severed a giant tree as thick as a person. Then, he spat out a beam of moonlight, piercing a boulder over ten meters away—shattering it to dust. Yellow Wind King smiled with satisfaction.

“Human form is much more agile. Beast form is too bulky.”

Suddenly, his body stiffened. A strange voice echoed in his consciousness. He closed his eyes, concentrating on his mindscape. Inside his mental sea, a vast ocean stretched endlessly.

Above it, a bright moon hung in the sky, illuminating everything. At that moment, a golden, ethereal door slowly opened in the highest part of his mind.

A mystical immortal melody drifted out.

【Sing your own fate, defy destiny’s grasp.】

【O chosen one who has reclaimed fate, the blessing of the Wind Spirit and Moon Shadow descends upon you!】

【You have obtained the Divine Trait System.】

A beam of divine light merged into Yellow Wind King’s consciousness. A vast torrent of information flooded his mind.

[By training and learning, you can awaken personal traits. By defeating or killing enemies, you can plunder their traits.] [Additionally, every 360 days, you can upgrade one trait.] [Traits can be used for yourself or bestowed upon others.] [Trait Ranks: White, Blue, Red, Purple, Gold, Five-Colored, and the negative-effect Black Traits.]

Yellow Wind King quickly grasped the information.

His eyes gleamed with excitement.

Had he finally found a way to change his fate?

“This is amazing!”

He clenched his fists and checked his status panel.

Yellow Wind King scratched his head. One gold, three whites… This looked so basic! Was he really that weak?

And why Master Marksman and Critical Strike? He had never used a bow before!

Then, a horrifying memory surfaced—those black-cloaked monks outside Sha Men Village, turning into pincushions under a storm of arrows.

Shudder!

Was the Yellow Wind Ridge rat clan naturally gifted snipers?

Time to test it out.

Just as Yellow Wind King retrieved a bow from his armory.

Ding-a-ling!

The wind chime alarm rang.

A voice echoed through the cave system.

“Damn rat, get out here! Today is the day you die!”
