Chapter 2467 2467: Captives
Haziel stomped her other foot.
It opened up just like the first one and spread those metal spheres into the lava lake, creating more of those Lava humanoids.
Now, they are evenly matched with the attackers. The same goes for the people on the island. If they duked it out, it would be a three on three battles. But for some reason, Quinzz hesitated. He didn't fight them directly and instead looked at the Lava humanoids that were emerging, attacking, getting hit and collapsing like a miniature demonstration of a life cycle.
And he noticed something the others didn't.
He wasn't able to confirm it immediately, but the moment he did, his confident face turned to panic.
"Everyone, leave. Immediately. Retreat."
He crushed a token first and took out a spatial transference token. His teammates did the same and crushed them.
Quinzz was about to feel relieved for a second. After all, the transference token should take him away from the threat he just pursued. However, the relief turned to despair in an instant. The token didn't work.
There was no familiar suction of spatial energy around him and he was still standing on the island. The same applied to his team members. They were all also standing on the same spot without moving an inch.
The worst part of it was that they had let their guards down for a moment in a hurry to crush those tokens and escape. Which turned out to be a big mistake.
*BOOM* *BOOM* *BOOM*
The explosions rang in their ears as the lava humanoids went crazy. Their attacks were so powerful, their bodies collapsed just from the aftershock of launching them.
Even though Quinzz wasn't getting hit by those attacks, he was the first one to panic.
"Everyone defend. Don't attack them. Defend and retreat."
He kicked the island and flew away. He didn't even bother beating down Haziel and her two teammates.
Haziel was actually very surprised by the sudden change of events. She did know that these humanoid would come, because Sam said they would.
Apart from that, she didn't really have much information on what exactly these humanoids are and how dangerous they actually were.
They did serve as a great distraction, that's for sure.
But judging from Quinzz's reaction, she became sure that they were a big deal.
And they were.
As Quinzz tried to fly away, a large lava cannon materialized in the lake and shot his path down. All ten humanoids that were originally fighting with the ten members now turned into cannons and they attacked Quinzz and his two teammates who flew along with him.
Haziel saw this and gestured her teammates, who exchanged a glance and stomped their feet as well.
Five balls from each foot, a total of twenty balls flew out and entered the lake.
Before the opponents could relax, the ten spheres were not joined with the new twenty and they were all attacking.
Haziel watched as the teams were struggling. Maybe if the environment was a bit friendlier that might have had an easier time. But it wasn't.
And the spheres coming back up consistently wasn't helping at all.
But she soon did understand the reason for Quinzz's panic though. The lake which was glowing with fiery red of the fire elemental energy slowly started showing a faint hue of wispy black.
And she could sense it even from within the barrier. It was the death energy.
Not any death energy. He could feel the faint presence of curse here and there. At the same time, the armors and the defense mechanisms worn by the opponents were getting corroded. The wispy black is spreading all throughout the lake and of course the humanoids were no exception.
Now every attack was aided with a hint of curse and those curses were damn effective. Quinzz finally couldn't care less anymore and went all out.
*BOOM*
With a single punch into the air, he sent a shockwave that shook the whole lava lake. The humanoids in the immediate surroundings were destroyed and the other humanoids were shaken up. He turned his tail and rank like the wind.
Even as other humanoids came in the way and were about to block his path, he threw another similar punch and full power and sent them flying.
The other opponents finally felt some relief and hope. Particularly, when they saw the humanoids not following Quinzz who was out of the lake. But once again that relief and hope were turned to despair. Because Quinzz didn't stop and he didn't try to help them. He just ran.
Mae looking at this scene did the same.
Haziel watched this as the select few use their life saving trinkets to escape the lake while the others were trapped.
The more people left, the harder it became for the remaining foes.
Soon, the curse invaded the bodies of the last remaining seven people. Haziel followed Sam's instructions and with a thought controlled the humanoids.
The next second, the seven were shot down to the island. Haziel and her team captured them easily.
The spheres, finally done with their job, came back. Haziel put them all back in spatial storage. They left with the seven captives.
They went back to the base and Haziel asked Sam.
"What are those weird metal things?"
"Oh? They are my new puppets. I wanted to test those designs and see how they would work against the third graders."
"They are your puppets? They are that strong?"
"Not really. They only worked because of the lake. That lake has the same level of energy as ten thousand fire elemental spiritual stone mines. Maybe even more.
Each drop of that lava contained way too much energy. The orbs used that energy to attack. If there wasn't such a medium around, for the third graders, these are nothing but marbles."
"So, you lucked out?"
"No, I was prepared, based on the circumstances. Maybe the luck was knowing about the lake beforehand."
"Then what happened to these people? What did you do to them?"
She asked, looking at the seven captives who were still unconscious.
"I got something special planned for them. Don't worry."
What do you think?
