Chapter 34: Chapter 34: Bountiful Harvest Chapter 34: Chapter 34: Bountiful Harvest Separate the items, so it’ll be easier to organize when we get back.
Song Yi also came back, bringing good news. A warehouse was found, but there wasn’t much left inside.
“There’s no food left, just some daily necessities left by the people before us.”
“Damn, they didn’t leave anything for us.”
“Don’t be discouraged. Now that the weather has gotten colder, taking some clothes or something will be useful. It’s better than nothing!”
“Right, see what we need, and take more.”
Song Yi kindly reminded from the side, “Over there, there is still some alcohol and beverages. Although not a lot, they still count as supplies. Let’s go and move them out.”
“Okay!”
Upon hearing about the beverages, Zhang Kaiyang also cheered up.
“Mianmian, let’s go see if there are things to keep warm…”
“Okay…”
Four of them split into two groups and started to take action.
Jhiang Yuan had only glanced through last time, but this time she actually found quite a lot.
Towels, cotton socks, and even found several electric heated pads and those you fill with hot water.
“Sister Yuan, let’s take more of these. Everyone will be able to use them later.”
“Yeah, take more of those you fill with hot water, we might lose electricity later.”
“Okay!”
Ye Mianmian didn’t dawdle, and the two found many woven bags, the kind that could fit luggage.
They even found an electric blanket, took down the packaging and stuffed it into the woven bags.
“Mianmian, take some of these slippers as well. I’ll go up front to look.”
“Okay, be careful…”
Jhiang Yuan nodded and set off by herself. With no one around, she reached the stationery section.
There were many notebooks and pens. She took some, but not too much—it wouldn’t be good to be noticed.
“Sister Yuan, did you find anything?”
“Yeah, come over here, Mianmian!”
“There are quite a few desk lamps here, and even badminton rackets and the like. We’ll find them useful later. Let’s take more, we can use them as weapons.”
“Yeah, okay!”
As they talked, they gathered all the items into the bags.
She also took some pens and two notebooks symbolically.
“There’s a child at home, she can play with these when I get back.”
Then, she also took a set of table tennis rackets and some balls.
Song Yi and Zhang Kaiyang had already moved the items to the door.
“Let’s go, let’s go help them.”
There weren’t many items, just about a dozen boxes of alcoholic drinks and a few boxes of laundry detergent.
The two had prepared four bags, Ye Mianmian took a few clothes and some skincare products and put them in her own backpack, not using the communal resources.
Upon reaching the first floor, Jhiang Yuan saw that all the clothing was for summer, so she didn’t bother with it.
It was now half-past two in the morning, and they had been there for an hour.
“Downstairs, there are a few small supermarkets. I know one that is uninhabited; we could try our luck there.”
Because the supermarkets were next to a residential area and many people lived in the stores, Jhiang Yuan’s words caught everyone’s attention.
“What are we waiting for, let’s hurry up.”
“Hold on, let’s break down these boxes and take out the foam padding. It’ll save space. We’ve taken plenty of nylon woven bags, just put them there.”
“Okay…”
Everyone knew they still had to avoid the group in the building on their return, so naturally, the fewer items the better.
The four of them worked together, their movements swift, even opening the laundry detergent boxes.
Under cover of the night, the group ran to the supermarket Jhiang Yuan mentioned.
They called it a supermarket, but it was actually just a small convenience store.
However, it hadn’t been visited yet, and there was still an abundance of snacks.
Excited, everyone grabbed bags and began their “Zero-Dollar Purchase.”
Jhiang Yuan took the opportunity when everyone was busy to run to the counter, which was locked, but the key was in the drawer.
It literally signaled that there was silver here, but it made things easier for her.
There indeed was money at the cash register, causing Jhiang Yuan’s eyes to light up—it looked to be several thousand dollars.
It was likely the money from the last day’s sales, not yet deposited.
She stashed it all in her space, only taking out some bills and steel coins.
“Sister Yuan, got any good stuff?”
Zhang Kaiyang, who came over to grab some cigarettes from under the counter, asked her when he saw Jhiang Yuan.
“There’s money here, do you want it…”
“What’s the use, not as good as a bag of spicy strips…”
“Pack it up!”
As she spoke, she grabbed a small plastic bag, stuffed the money into it, and then tucked it into the bag Zhang Kaiyang was holding, helping him pack the cigarettes.
The items below were soaked, but those in sealed bags were set aside.
Having finished this heist, the group decided to head back.
They had too much stuff; even more kayaks wouldn’t have been able to carry it all.
They still faced the challenge of transporting everything back upstairs without any accidents.
It was now past three in the morning, and heading back wouldn’t be a problem.
It was convenient while everyone else was asleep.
However, no matter how careful they were, they still disturbed the residents on the second floor.
Since they were worried about flooding in their homes, some people had come out to check in the middle of the night and stumbled upon the fully loaded group.
The floodwaters had almost reached the rooftop of the first floor by now.
Entering from the second floor couldn’t have been easier.
“You guys went out? How is it outside, and why did you bring back so much stuff?”
“The places outside are flooded; many supermarkets opened and were selling cheap, you should hurry over, there were quite a few shoppers.”
The second-floor residents were somewhat skeptical, clearly distrustful, “Who opens a supermarket in the middle of the night?”
“It wasn’t that they opened at midnight; they’d been open since the day.
The floodwater had already inundated the shops; selling even a little is better than nothing. If you don’t believe it, forget it.”
As they spoke, the group had already carried everything up, with Song Yi retrieving the kayaks.
“You guys actually have a boat?”
The man on the second floor was evidently stunned, and an idea immediately occurred to him.
“Can you lend me your boat for a bit? I want to go out and buy some stuff too. We live on the second floor, and I’m thinking about renting a place if possible.”
“No, I don’t know you well, and this boat is crucial.”
With that, Song Yi made his stance clear.
The boat was his, and it was not up to others to decide.
The man on the second floor was persistent, talking for a long time, but everyone was indifferent.
Hearing the noise level increase, Jhiang Yuan frowned and pulled out a dagger from her space, pointing it directly at him.
She had wanted to take out the Tang Sword, but that would have been harder to explain.
“What, what are you doing?”
“You’re too loud. The stuff is ours, and it’s our right to lend it or not. Now keep your mouth shut, otherwise, I’m not sure what I might do.”
Jhiang Yuan was worried that his shouting would wake everyone upstairs, putting them in real danger.
“Smack!”
Before the man could respond, he suddenly fell down, revealing Song Yi’s tall figure behind him.
What do you think?
